I'm glad I watched this video again, Dan. Tayson mentioned he was a side sleeper and that his air mattress afforded him comfort. I'm looking for a "thicker" air mattress that provides better support than my Thermarest and Klymit Static V that touted to support side sleepers. My Teton base pad is a wonderful overland mattress but would suck if I had to backpack it (very bulky and heavy). I've even gone to the extent of stuffing contractor bags full of leaves or ferns to supplement my air mattresses; helps increase R-value as well.
@alexanderweaver48384 жыл бұрын
Tayson is looking good and I like his Yosemite Sam type of beard. Man, I wouldn't know what to do with ultralight gear. I've been using military gear since I was a kid, stuff inherited from my dad who served in two wars (WWII and Korean Conflict). Then I served 23 years in the military. Even on backpacking trips throughout Europe, North Africa and the Middle East I used what was readily available to me. I'm 73 and still use military surplus and/or military-oriented gear: ILBE Assault Pack (9.5lbs empty), Mystery Ranch, Savotta, gear acquired from NATO friends. In my military job I worked with English, German, Turkish soldiers and did some trading along the way. I picked up a friend's Hyperlite backpack and just couldn't feel comfortable with it. I like that rugged feel of military surplus materials and gear and carrying the extra weight is not a problem as I'm used to it. I maintain reasonable loadout weights taking only what is absolutely necessary; my luxury items would be a pneumatic pillow and a Helinox camp chair.

@@17timbar that's great. I've had zippers fail. That's all I'm sayin
@notyouraccount97424 жыл бұрын
There’s a reason you don’t find zippers on most present day back packs. Zippers FAIL. It would be a terrible day being miles from the trail head with a backpack split down the middle with the zipper splitting. Next thing you know there’s a yard sale all the way down the trail.
@hikingwithrosy4 жыл бұрын
😄 - I can just picture that! I guess I would assume the maker of the pack would use a decent quality zipper that is unlikely to fail. The other downside I can seen is stuff getting snagged in the zipper. I’ve got some pretty thin underlayer clothing which I could see that happening to.

The problem I encounter with one & two person tents is the length. I'm 6'2" and my head will be hitting the tent wall (while laying down) and my feet will be pushing against the opposite tent wall. I use a zpack triplex for just myself. i thought about going hammock, but, I also use the tent when I'm hunting coyotes and i will be in the middle of a pasture with no trees. I would definitely consider going to that tent if it is long enough. I did like how the entrance was designed.

Love the pack. I’m skeptical about the tent. I know it’s a prototype, but it seems a little thin. I know you hike in the Midwest, trees like to just hurl sticks and small branches around in the middle of the night on occasion, and I think that may be an issue with how thin that tent looks/sounds when Tayson rolls the door back.
@DanBecker4 жыл бұрын
It’s a 15D nylon. That’s pretty standard for ultralight tents right now. It’s more durable than Dyneema in my opinion.
@johnc22424 жыл бұрын
Dan Becker that’s good to know. I’m less skeptical than I was before. I live mostly in the hammock world, so tent denier isn’t something I typically look at. I have been in the market for a fairly inexpensive trekking pole tent. I’d be interested to see how this compares to something like the Lanshan tents.

It's like a Smurfs gathering! there is sooo much blue color in this video. Queue Eiffle65 "Blue" ....... Soooo let me get this straight... You can't poop in nature (digging a cat hole or whatever) even though it's not destroying anything but actually helping the soil ? At this point why let humans in the "park" or sleep in there either? it's bad enough some places charge for overnight camping in the park (in addition to getting into the park), do you also have to pee in a bag or is that bad as well? With that said I understand we have to pay for rangers, parking and bathrooms at the stations or whatever, but c'mon... poop in a bag? Leave that to the Vanlifers.
