Never really appreciated how cool it is to have the Locust speak really simplistic english mixed with really complex phrases (In comparison with their 'Dumb' Phrases anyway) at different times - "Need fire" "more Fire" - "Vengence!" "Inferior!" Is it any wonder they're such a fascinating enemy, they've a lot more subtle complexities than just being "Big scary monsters" They've a culture that's somewhat sophisticatedly primitive

Yeah. I remember one time when I was playing Gears of War 3, it was a Team Deathmatch game, and I was on the Locust team(I pretty much always played Locust) and someone on the COG team got a mortar and fired it at a bunch of us as we were moving up, and my character, I believe I was playing as the Hunter Elite, suddenly cried out “INCOMING!!!” in response to seeing and hearing the mortar shot.

They are so scary. I cqnt think of a scarier enemy than the locust. Stronger than most men, advanced weapons, at the same time primitive and barbaric and the whole time living underground. Imagine even the lowest locust drone standing right next to you. Gears is so cool.

I love how the Locust soldiers actually look like soldiers. Like they have holsters for a sidearm, pouches on their feet for supplies presumably, Grenadier Elites and Flamers wear a bandolier, some Drones wear full helmets, etc. My favorite are the Drones who wear goggles because it's bright on the surface and it helps them see better, since they're used to the darkness of the Hollow. Lots of subtle details that show how intelligent the Locust actually are. The books bring up how the COG learned the hard way the Locust weren't dumb brutes. Gears 2 even has a collectible that's implied to be a Locust dog tag. Like they keep track of their soldiers much like humans do
