I think the drones on the turrets just have a reinforced helmet so you cant shoot them while they are on it

No offense, but I'd suggest you go back and re-read the books. Lots of inaccuracies in the story. For example, Maria didn't leave because she didn't want to be with Dom anymore. She had severe depression and would go out on a walk every day to look for their dead children and was not very good about taking all of her medication. Dom was looking for Maria in GOW: The Slab with Anya, and had an internal monologue where he said, "That usually works better than saying My wife went crazy and left to look for our dead children".

No you're right, it's been a minute since I read the books. But personally I always theorized it was due to the trauma of the kids dying. It was just a personal theory of mine that being with Dom hurt too much that it brought back memories and even caused her to want to search with the kids. That's what I meant essentially. Haha
