a testament to Subaru where a high mileage engine was modified without a rebuild and proceeded to run to Alaska and back with little problems as the only hiccups but there were no major issues until the exhaust valve when it was brought into the shop

STi oil cooler is more like an oil warmer to get oil up to temp faster but it doesn’t hold the temp well if thermal loads (from high RPM and/or boost) are consistently high. Honda’s have the same issue. If you gear the tranny down, road course, or hot lap during auto-x’s, you should supplement with an oil-air heat exchanger.

Reminds me of starting my engine back up a little over a year ago in my 06 WRX with a 6MT swap. Bought the car in 2016 while deployed, put some different suspension and accessory modifications into it, came home and drove it for ~2 months, and BOOM! Piston slap in cylinder 1. Thankfully, I have two great friends who offered to help me rebuild it, one having a shop in his back yard and all the tools we could need. That, mixed with his experience building diesel motors in college, coupled with my other friend's electrical/wiring experience, and me being a master cleaner of all parts that were reused (Cleaning World was my home for weeks), we were able to get it up and running after almost 10 months of being down. I cried when I got to drive it again. My dream Subaru body (Hawkeye), great silver color, AND a wagon, all making roughly 500whp. Sadly, I had to sell her to get into something a bit more reliable, but I'm hopeful in 5 years to find another Hawkeye, wagon or sedan, that I can make into my own again. Or a Fozzy, whatever I find first. Great work on the video, and congratulations on your new, RELIABLE motor. The Fozz sounds awesome, looks like it drives great, and should take care of you for a long time (until you decide to track it). Keep up the great work, Ben-squared.

@@enja001 , yeah something like that depending on what parts you buy and what upgrades you do that can be pretty much your budget on just parts, unless you have access to machine work for free you still have to get the block and head's cleaned and tank dunked, cylinders bored out and honed if oversizing pistons. heads and block decked, valves guides pressed in, seats cut oversized and pressed in, valve's and seats cut and ground and maybe get all your clearances mic'ed out so you order all the correct sized parts (pistons, rings, valves etc). Seeing all the nice parts they used I'd guess they spent around that amount on just parts alone.

If you do change to equal length headers than you should choose killer b equal headers, they are super high quality and you can get them ceramic coated to protect from oxidation, they are also very good for the engine and helps it breathe better, you will also notice a pretty good power gain. I really recommend killer b equal length headers if you ever go equal length.
@zoomzabba4525 жыл бұрын
FYI, Subaru ringland failure is due to tight rings to maintain emissions. A stock block with opened up rings will still get you to 400 wheel. Past that, other failures will occur like pistons and valves melting, small rods bend , or lifting a head under high boost because head bolts can't take it.

PSA, if you want to stop your Subaru EJ motor cranking and firing over, don't just take the plugs out as you might end up flooding the cylinders. Safest method, especially post oil change is to unplug the Crank Position Sensor just under the alternator, this will stop it firing and allow it to crank over with no compression. It also doubles up as a good safety method if you are unsure about leaving the car somewhere as the car will not start without it, but will also not flag up a warning light :D
