in theory, 0 to the power 0 could be 1 therefore the denominator would be -8

The exponents one at the beginning threw me through a loop. I thought you would simplify by multiplying the 4^5 x 7^8 like you would with variables and get 28^13/ 28^8, which would simplify to 28^5. Sadly this is just wrong. Could you tell me WHY it’s wrong? Because I just don’t know.
@TestPrepChampions3 жыл бұрын
It looks like you multiplied 4 and 7 and then added 5 and 8 to get 28^13. I like your thought process and appreciate your effort, but unfortunately, it doesn't exactly work that way. When we see 4^5--the 5 tells us that 4 appears 5 times in the multiplication. It's the same with 7^8--the 8 tells us that 7 appears 8 times in the multiplication. So just multiplying the bases and adding the exponents doesn't work. If the bases were the same, you could add the exponents and keep the base the same, so maybe that's what you're trying to do here? Remember that when the bases aren't the same, you can't add the exponents. I'm thinking you might need to review the basic exponent rules. Also, according to the order of operations rules (PEMDAS), you have to do the exponents before you multiply. So you could do 4^5, which gives you 1024, and then do 7^8 power, which gives you 5764801, and then you could multiply 1024 and 5764801. Then you'd do the same thing on the bottom. In theory, that's another way to solve the question. But that's going to be a very tedious process with lots of big numbers, which is why it's much better to just simplify how I show you in the question.

Thanks! That helps a lot. I forgot all about how they have to be the same to do that.

Wouldn’t the last problem be wrong? Because you have to take 100 and divide it by 3.14. Then square root it and multiply it by two. In the video it seems you took the square root of 100 and multiplied it by 2?
@TestPrepChampions3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your question. The last question is correct. You don't have to divide 100 by 3.14. You could do it that way, and you'd get the same answer, but I'm showing you a different way to do it in the question. I just took the square root of 100/pi in the question, and rewrote square root of 100 as just 10. I then left 10 over the square root of pi. This gives us the radius and not the diameter, which is why I had to multiply by 2. Multiplying by 2 gives us the diameter.

The question about the chocolate bars? You did it wrong. When I do it your way the answer is 3. That is because you multiplied 3 and 4=12÷4=3(that is quantity. Not cost.) The cost is $30. There are 3 cases. $30÷3=$10÷4=$2.5 Good thing I'm paying attention 😌
@TestPrepChampions4 жыл бұрын
No, I did it correctly. And my way also got 2.5 as the answer, as shown in the video. If you multiply 3 and 4 in the denominator, you get 12. I'm not sure why you're multiplying 3 and 4 and then dividing by 4 after that? Once you get 12, you then must do 30 divided by 12, which give you $2.5. So I'm a little confused about your comment, but I do appreciate you watching my video.
