Hi my name is Orion T. Arline I'm 26 1/2 years old going on to 27 years old. Date of Birth is 06/23/94. I work at Little Caesars in California, Gardena. I went to North High School in Torrance California I did graduate with certificate of achievement which is not equivalent to a high school diploma at Los Angeles County Office of Education which means I was in special ed diagnosed with Autism and ADHD from 1998 - 2012. I am currently living at home with a home with a house mate/landlord that I pay rent to and currently taking myGED.com to obtain something that I didn't receive in high school back in 2012. I used to live with my mother from the time I was born until 2016 when I was 22 1/2 years of age. Now with that being said the reason I moved out of my mother's place is because I issues regarding personal and financial reasons why. I'm currently taking my G.E.D. to work at near by Big 5 in Gardena, California as a cashier and also attend West Los Angeles College in Culver City, California. Lastly, I took almost all but the math on the myged.com ready practice test. For language arts practice test I scored 118 out of 200 points, for social studies practice test I scored 137 out of 200 points and finally for science I scored a 139 out of 200 points so far on those practice test. If and when I get a chance I'll take the math practice test soon. Any tips, pointers and or advice ?

@@WhirlwindStormNinjutsu94-23 Please check out the playlists on my channel about what you'll need to pass each subject test! You'll want to make sure you can score at least 145 on each subject's practice test before you go take the real exams. @@alixfidare9175 It really just depends what you want to do! I always encourage students to finish their diploma if they are able. If you have an idea of what you might want to do, you could try to talk with people in your industry (people who do hiring or admissions preferably) to see how they view the GED. Sometimes it depends what scores you got - just passing or higher? I would try to find out what your specific industry thinks about the GED.

Question: What practical reason is there to sit in useless classes like trigonometry, physics, and the history of Confucian China when they have absolutely NO RELEVANCE to what one is going to do in real life???

My son has gotten straight As in school and now as a junior half way through the year, he has anxiety going to a school of 2000 kids when he just wants to learn. He is physically sick in the morning at just the thought of going to school. As a parent, I can’t sit back and say “suck it up”. These are the warning signs even though he says everything is fine, I know that it isn’t. I won’t force my kid to go somewhere that causes mental distress. I ordered the practice tests online for him to take. If he passes them, then he can leave and start college in the fall, if he doesn’t then I will enroll him in online school. Don’t ignore your child’s warning signs that school may be too much. This is how we get suicides and/or worse.

I just turned 16 and hs left me no other choice but to unfortunately dropout. I’m not gonna go to deep in topic but they lied to me handful of times (not academically speaking but with credit and going to the next grade) and honestly i’m tired of it. Highschool made me depressed and always filled me with negative thoughts, no matter how many times i’ve tried to stay positive, it stopped me from being improving myself and just made me lazy and tired. I do believe getting your highschool diploma is the right choice, but i’ve been given too many signs that school just isn’t for me. Hopefully i’ll see where this GED takes me. Looking back at this comment i’ve realized how foolish I was. I took some reflection from my time off and they never lied at all, in fact I don’t even know what I was even saying or thinking about. I guess this is what happens when your too stressed to even think properly from certain situations. I just don’t know man, I can’t believe I stopped going to school due to poor mental health and being constantly stressed all the time. I was also thinking about taking my own life so I guess that played apart to me not thinking rationally.

I have a GED, but hear my story I was a very smart kid from elementary to middle school, good grade easily top 2, me and my ex girlfriend were always the best. But in 7th grade I decided to skip a grade and go straight up to ninth grade, and that was one of the best and worst decisions because I went to a new school and didn't have any friends, by trying to fit in I kind of missed most of classes and the kids still didn't like me or wanted me to be in the school, I almost got kicked out twice because of bad grade, bad behaviors, so I decided to focus at the end of 10th grade in the last semester everyone was waiting for me to fail but I surprised them by passing and in 11th grade I became a beast, I was back to my normal self good grade and they started respecting me, until 12 grade I was the youngest I was 16 and I had to move to another country (the U.S) and I wasn't able to complete school so I had to drop out and took a ged at 18 went to a tech school and now I am a university student and I am a junior in engineering. So sometimes life can be hard but don't give up and work hard for your dreams

But after finishing Highschool of course didn't graduate because of failing 1 test i took the GED and got my diploma.

When I was about to start high school I was really exited, but once it started I started getting bullied and developed anxiety and depression and would have panic attacks every day. My friends even turned their backs to bully me. I could never get myself out of bed knowing I’d have to go to a school where teachers and counselors didn’t care about the bullying in the school. Half-way through my first year I started getting physical symptoms in my body that everyone still told me was anxiety. These symptoms were physically exhausting. I knew it wasn’t my anxiety and that it was something much different. I then was staying home because of anxiety AND these symptoms that caused me to not be able to move around without getting dizzy or losing balance. Every doctor, every teacher, every therapist tried to tell me it was my anxiety. This last year (my junior year) I decided to homeschool to take care of my health and focus more on me. My mantas health improved a lot and I was able to find a doctor to test me and got an official diagnosis and treatment!! Now I am considering just getting my GED and moving on with my life, and leaving high school (a very traumatic time) behind me for good. I have big goals and dreams in my life and want to spend 100% of my time healing from my illness and creating my dream life!!

I study for hours, waking up at 6am to get ready for the bus by 6:50am and work through all classes from 7-2:20, even my lunch. I stay at school until 5:00 to get extra hours in but I'm still failing. Everyday I want to runaway and it gets worse overtime, like the progressive killing style of TB. Im 15 (turning 16 in 3 days) and i really want to dropout school but my parents aren't supportive. Im doing online school and it just isnt for me and neither is going to real school. I always fell sad and never really positive when i go. The environment seems toxic. I also have extreme anxiety and never feel motivated or comfortable at school and i just cant anymore. And that fact that this has been going for over 7 years now just makes things worse. Having to cope with loneliness and bullying at such a young age just messed me up bad as a little kid. My parents just say i don't need friends and just try to read a book which i did but ruined me as a whole and messed with my mentality which ended up scaring me for life. It made feel terrible about myself and i some times wished i wasnt here. And that its all my fault that no one likes me. Its just a constant cycle that i cant get out of. I just really want to drop everything and take care of myself more without worrying and stressing to the point i might pass out. Anyways great video and cant wait for more.:)

Being autistic with too much trauma from the sociology of the religion of academia, I simply quit when I was 17, and I wish I could've done it earlier. Take the GED, because the school will ALWAYS fail you in life, and unless you want to be a doctor, lawyer, or you actually enough 'spare change' to want to learn more about different topics academically, DON'T GO to college!!! there are way more opportunities to learn trades, to develop talents you want to achieve in life, to express yourself (Bytheway, if you're an artist, DON'T assume that the only places to make it big are in New York City or Los Angeles). Who knows, it might prevent future school violence, just a thought #Academiaisantiautistic

I'm 17 and for my entire life I wanted to go to Dartmouth, I had plans to go there with my best friend at the time. In 7th grade I developed major depression and was eventually diagnosed officially after some push to get help. When I got to high school i had so many expectations and intentions for myself to do really well so i could graduate and leave. I ended up flunking civics and getting a couple pretty low grades, which is weird bc history is one of my favourite subjects. my second year... was the worst year of my life and it's still kinda going on. my entire life flipped upside down and I almost didn't make it to 17. my mom decided to move us to NC which is closer to my sister but we used to live in a small town up in New England so it was a huge move and huge change. I had panic attacks multiple times a day. and a few weeks into the new school I just stopped going. idk why i just couldn't get myself to even open my computer without my heart racing and getting anxiety. teachers started calling about truancy and I wanted to move back so bad. It caused a huge argument. my mental health was getting better I had a really good therapist and I was getting to a good place and then my life just changed like that all over. I've missed so much school I'll never be able to catch up. this happened last year and I barely passed classes last year. my mom gave me the option on my birthday a week ago to move up with my grandparents. I wont be able to go to the same school and it'll be just like when we moved here except I'd be living with my grandparents. My transcript is not a reflection of my academic abilities and I want to go to college so bad. I'd be the first in my family to go. Getting my GED seems like the only way for me. but I'm so scared bc my mom told me that if I get my ged I have to be an adult, so i need to start paying rent and bills and everything. I'm so scared of growing up. I'm so lost. sorry I just kinda word vomited on this post I just needed to get it out

Hi, it sounds like you are going through a lot of changes in your life. I hope you have people you can talk with about this in person. GED isn't ever the only option when you are still high school aged - if you want to finish your diploma, ask about credit recovery options. Colleges look at a lot of factors in addition to your transcript - but I want to reassure you that even if you don't end up at Dartmouth, there are many other great schools that might be an even better fit for you. I also grew up in New England and thought a small, prestigious liberal arts school was the only way to go. I ended up graduating from UMass Amherst, and I loved my time there. I have had a lot of professional success in my chosen field as an adult. No matter where you go, what you put in is what you'll get out. Hang in there. ❤️

@@notdaphers hi! im sorry to hear that you can relate. it really sucks that you've just learned now and how your school has handled your situation in the past. honestly, i feel as though most schools do not take the time and effort to truly help and support students who struggle with mental health issues and its so upsetting. I am 18 now and did in fact get my GED. I went through my local community college who gave me a couple options as to what i could do, i ended up taking the Hiset tests. for me the tests were fairly simple as they were much like the basic computerized tests that i had to do in school, within a couple months it was over and done. i now have a job that ive been at for a bit over a year and i plan to start taking some classes at that same community college to start easing myself into possibly going to a full time college or at the very least find a field that i am somewhat interested in. by no means is my life figured out and many times i think about what would have happened had i graduated from highschool. however, i am very happy that i did what i did. because of my decision, i am able to focus more on my mental health and getting my life under control. i also still have the option to further my education, which if i hadnt gotten my ged i wouldnt have that so its cool lol. life is a lot and ive got so much going on right now, but overall im much better than i was when i initially wrote my comment and for that im kinda proud haha. i hope you are doing okay and would love to hear how everything has been coming along in your journey! and i just want to thank you for asking how i am, that truly means so much to me:) *also idk if this is weird or not lmao, but whatever, if you have questions about the process or need advice or anything im here for you. i know stuff can get overwhelming really quick and i wish i had someone there who understood, so just throwing it out there just in case lol

I feel like the GED would be perfect for me. I’ve done great throughout elementary and middle school, but I got to high school and there was just this overwhelming feeling of dread. In that case, it was more of the environment that I hated. I had basically no friends and would get uncomfortable and anxious around people and it didn’t help that one of my classes had a heavy workload. Fast forward to now when all of my classes are JUST focused on workload. I never get to do anything fun and my mental pain tolerance is very low. Again, the work is moderately easy and I understand everything I have to do, but it’s just so grueling. And I can’t believe I have to do 4 years of this same old same old doing the same thing a million times and it taking up so much mental energy. So yeah I’m not going to drop out because I’m only 16, but maybe I’ll just focus more of my energy on the things that I actually need to learn and do it my way.

I live in New York we don’t take the GED anymore. We do the TASC and it’s 5 subjects passing score is 500 or higher. You must be 19 or older to take the TASC exams or in a special program that will let you take it younger. H.S.E class are also free too. If you drop out of high school took the New York regents exams impasse one of the subject or all of them that’s already considered passing the TASC exams Good luck to everyone👍

Im 2 years late lol.. so actually its gonna be a little easier now.. but thank you for this video. I think im going to go down the GED route. I've been failing high school since freshman year and im supposed to graduate next year ideally.. but i have like a 1.2 gpa and im not going to make up all those credits if im being realistic. I go to an alternative school and they have a GED program, i can easily get in without the same risks involved applying for a GED at a regular high school. I've had multiple addictions in the past that have caused some damage and the sleep deprivation is only making it worse when it comes to school.. the discomfort i experience is hell because of this and im tired of it tbh.. Im attending this school at the detriment of my own mental and physical health and im not doing it anymore. However with the GED program that my school offers.. i can schedule whatever time i want. The teachers at this school treat me like shit.. im gonna be 18 soon and im tired of these people pushing me around when its having such a negative impact on me. I wouldnt have gotten into drugs and everything that fucked me over if i hadnt been at school in the first place. Nobodies to blame for this but me.. i made the choice.. but i wasnt in my right mind when i did. I've finally got my head on right and i dont want to loose it again because of school which is what is starting to happen this semester.. I dont plan on college and if i decide later.. there are other programs i can do that will make getting into college easier. I was initially just going to drop out.. but i figured id give this a shot. I've never cared about being rich.. i just want what i need and nothing more.. as long as i can work on music when i get home from work.. i dont mind.. the thing that matters is i want success and though my path might not be traditional.. im determined to find it.

It is definitely better to pass the GED and get your high school equivalency certificate than to not have a diploma at all. Having no diploma can make getting hired for a reasonably paying job VERY difficult - I've worked with a lot of young adults in that situation. How employers will look at your GED depends on the industry. I would consider trying to talk to someone in the fields you are interested in to see what their take on it is.

Not to imply that it's impossible to join with only a GED, but it will make your enlisting process a lot easier. That is if they will even take you into consideration. Most of my life I wasn’t in school because of my adhd, I went back in 2019 to see if I could handle it compared to when I was in elementary school and I left after the year ended because the teachers were really ableist and it was extremely difficult to get a good grade because nobody would help me to the point where midway through the school year I just gave up and only went so nobody would go to jail. lately I’ve been practicing online lately and I’ve learned more in the last year not in school than I have throughout the whole school year and my whole life and all I’ve been doing is watching KZbin videos and using Kahn academy and I’m not even doing it several hours a day, it’s usually 3-4 hours a day when I’m dedicated to it. People put too much emphasis on those 4 years when in 4 more years, new slang, fashions, new "cool" kids will come up to replace you it's a cycle that nobody cares about literally the second you graduate. I stuck it out and got my High-school diploma in 2021 because despite COVID-19 it was my last year so I said fuck it and bit down on the mouth piece. If I could do it again or recommend an option for others, get your GED unless you’re like a trimester away from graduation, and if you really want a diploma just drop out and go get an adult diploma at your local community college because there’s less BS and social stress. School has become more of a hassle than Fun (at junior college now), and despite a 3.27 total GPA from high school, I BARELY passed my classes senior year due to Covid, Addiction, and mental health issues. It fucked me up and i wish I’d just been more upfront with my parents about how I just wanted my GED. If you just want to finish your High School education without taking classes, go the GED method.

Not with 60’s or 50’s , but with 30’s , 40’s and 20’s, it’s ridiculous. Like I said I have an IEP and I have to be face to face in order to learn if not I’ll be off track and easily distracted. My parents are always on my back about my grades (Yelling at me) and it’s frustrating like I get it they won’t me to pass but constantly in my ear isn’t going to make me do any better. That plus me flunking online school during the covid outbreak mean that I'm about 2.5ish years behind where I should be, it's pretty embarrassing being 18 around 15-16 year olds in a class, and I generally feel like I really should be out of highschool by now. I want to put all my effort into work but I'm not the kinda person that can do school and work simultaneously, so I'm really considering dropping out and studying for a GED. If you have an option to do credit recovery (what those types of "packet" programs are usually), I would definitely take advantage of that. That way you can earn your high school diploma instead of the high school equivalency credential. Even though the high school equivalency credential is accepted widely, it's generally better to get your diploma if you can. My advice get your diploma while in school graduate young healthy and educated if you take a GED course there’s a good chance you’ll fail it it’s not an easy test especially the math portion it took me 2.6 years to pass the math portion with a 183/200 that was 4-6 hours a day 5 days a week or over 1500 hours of study time you’ve got to get a 165/200 minimum to be college ready anything below you’ll have to take pre requisite classes to enter college. I passed 3/4 test with out studying and I got honors scores on all 3 the math I failed 5 times with a 144/145 to pass out of 200 total score and I got that score 5 times and 183 on my 6th attempt which made me very happy but it took very hard work and time I never had the time in my teens and 20s,30s I was working 100 a week 6-7 days a weeks for 25 years straight now that I have money and my kids grown and has a family now I had the opportunity to study and all The time I need is available to me due to my financial situation I’ve been a successful business owner for nearly 20 years now but if I wasn’t there’s be no jobs without a diploma it’s a cold heard world out there especially for a young man $14-42k a year is about as good as it’s gonna get I used to lie and say I had one before computers took over. I am currently in Highschool, a Junior, but currently feel suffocated and driven against the wall due to the amount of work and stress of keeping up and schedule management, I've felt depressed and hopeless for a year ever since the pandemic and made the choice of remote learning, but it unfortunately didn't help me with my progression in school, and now I am having struggles to keep up and want to drop out and earn my GED for a better chance at for my future, and even if it's not worth quitting school before graduating, I can't handle the stress of school any further unfortunately.

@@michellerevisited I keep seeing you comment this. So when it comes to getting your GED, therefore it’s a test right? So you can take practice tests and everything, but do you keep mentioning for people to practice to see what it’s about because you only have one chance on the test and if you fail it your done? Or is it because you just want others to be aware what’s on the test? Because I’m a senior and school has ruined my mental health I feel so close but yes so far and I just want to drop out and get my GED. Because I keep hearing it’s the same thing as a high school diploma as in most 98% of Universities accept people with GEDs. @michellerevisited 3 жыл бұрын
@@katelinecarrasco2044 You can take the actual tests as many times as you like, but each time you take each subject it costs $30 - kind of expensive if you are not ready to pass! The practice tests are much cheaper and give you a good idea if you are ready or not. However, I also give this advice to high school students who haven't yet dropped out because many states don't allow you to take the GED exams unless you have already withdrawn from high school. I have worked with many students who withdrew from high school, were not ready to pass the exams, and then let years pass without doing the studying they needed to pass. If they had just stayed in school, they would have been much more likely to graduate. So, I recommend to withdraw from high school to take the GED exams only if you are already ready to pass. Otherwise, try to stay enrolled in school and work with counselors and teachers to meet graduation requirements while you study - you can always withdraw when you are ready, but you might find that you graduate before that happens.

I am in the US so that is not where I have most knowledge, but I would recommend that you reach out to universities you are considering and ask about their stance on the GED. my story is way more complicated than someone getting sick or pregnant or rushing to drop out. i havent been in school since the pandemic. My th grade year was excused and i had high grades already. but being home with my toxic and loud family was entirely stressful. on top of being assaulted bc i wanted attention, kicked out bc my parents said one thing and my teachers said another, cps, roadtrips that got m behind because we didnt have wifi on the road. personal health issues mentally as well. dad breaking his hip and still threatening to send me away moved out of texas to east africa. our education at that point was blown to the wind. the teachers miraculously passed me in all subjects. moved out of africa and to mexico where my mom got serious about schooling the five of us but not according to our grade she gave work about life skills that i had already learned on my own. haven't been in school for two years. before all that, my goals were to graduate early with college credits and mostly A's. i still want to graduate early and go to college but it will be very difficult since im not doing things a 16 yo would normally be doing (working, socializing, trips abroad getting a car). ill be going to community college and a state university but i wont have a job so i couldn't establish credit right away. grants and scholarships and aid will not cover tuition and living expenses. i told my mom this and she told me to work illegally here in mexico. that doesnt sit well with me so yeah, im settling for my ged but i will be nothing like my parents. my parens were in college multiple times in their life still no degree, and yes ive been bullied my entire life my friends family kids at school but its always where I felt safe and was able to thrive. i always had high test scores so im not worried about the ged test. i am worried about what my parents will do with me when i do graduate. they need to get their life together and stop trying to control me. you can't take an animal out its home and throw it in a reflective habitat with the expectations it won't understand they are limited to that space that you gave them.

You should look into options to pursue community college or trade school while you finish your diploma - a lot of schools have partnerships so that you can earn your associates degree in an area of interest simultaneously with your high school diploma. I think you'll find that you WILL need your diploma - most trade programs won't accept students without a diploma or GED. Since you've already finished most of your credits it doesn't make sense to get your GED instead. Either way, please check your states requirements before you make any decisions - many states don't allow 16 and 17 year olds to take the GED without some very specific circumstances.

Speak to a counselor at your school and ask if there is a possibility of doing credit recovery over the summer to get you on the right track. Check the requirements for the state where you live: ged.com/policies/. Some states have age restrictions (need to be 18+) and others require that you have "exited school" or dropped out. That just means you can't receive a high school equivalency certificate and continue to be enrolled in high school. But, it's not a negative thing because if you have the high school equivalency credential, it serves the same purpose as a diploma.

In my area a lot of the skilled trades are very competitive and require a diploma, passing an aptitude test, and letters of recommendation. They are also only open to adults. It might be a good idea for you to network and find a mentor in your trade who can give you some advice about how to proceed. I'm in Virginia and I've looked at the rules they still confused me cab you explain them?? Also if you have an IEP can it be used on the GED

Basically unless the superintendent of your school district signs off on you being excused from compulsory school attendance because of certain reasons, you can’t take the GED in Virginia until you are 18.

And about the IEP, you can apply for accommodations if you have a documented disability but they may not be the same as you get with your IEP.

Talk to a recruiter about how they view the GED. Make sure you are getting the scores you need. Be mindful you may also need to take the ASVAB.

Same! I want to enlist also! Google said yes so I hope they're not lying. I need to get a GED!

@@psalm3496 please actually reach out to a recruiter! They will help you make sure you do exactly what you need to do. There are a lot of nonexperts on the internet. What the army requires is not my specialty, so I want you to make sure you speak to the actual recruiters. They are happy to speak with you - that's their job!

I think I’m dropping out at the start of my Senior year. Currently in Junior year. By that time I’ll be turning 18 and have more time to study for it and work.

Try the practice tests to see if you are likely to pass before you make any big decisions. Good luck!
