I got the 6 gear electric Brompton last year which I need here in the UK. I have two other e-bikes, a full suspension MBT and a road e-bike. Horses for courses, but there’s something about the Brompton. It’s a great little bike. I fling it in the back of my car, drive to the coast, or into the country and go exploring on the Brompton. 👍

Just a note to all from my experience with this model I had purchased recently... Since the e-bike has been registered under LTA, the Brompton warranty on the frame is voided due to the tag fixed on the frame. This may sound ridiculous, but it's true. Other than this, I love the bike.
@GeekCulture Жыл бұрын
I’m sure they will work around it. They have no choice with the tag

The Brompton Electric is good, but hardly a lot of people will buy it since it's almost double the price of the standard Brompton and hardly that practical if you often put your bag onto the bike often like I do. The most you can get out on the life of the Brompton Electric is to install a rear rack and in the future, convert it to a standard bike when the electric components are no longer needed.

Perhaps but I’ve seen larger bags for the front that allow the battery pack plus storage. I guess depends how much you want to carry on your bike

I might consider getting a bromton e-bike as i travel long distances in singapore on bikes anyway Plus owning one as a Singaporean has one downside Need a liencse to use one But its like he says in the video With the battery Its just a normal bike lmao Not sure how they going to classify these kind of e-bikes 😅

I have a Brompton M6R and an electric both of which have the 44 tooth chain wheel fitted. I enjoy both but the M6R is more usable, The electric is too heavy to fold and carry in my dotage and I find carrying the battery at the same time awkward. I love riding it but its utility as a conveyance is compromised. Further I find that the lack of electrical cutout on the brakes can find the motor fighting the brakes as one stops. Brompton aver that to change the setting of power assist the machine should be stopped and I find and then this to be true,though having the control handlebar mounted would be better as I have on my Ebco 80 pedelec which is far more usable but less fun.While the Brompton rides well with the power off it is hardly acceptable having to stop on each hill to put the power on and then at the rop to turn it off so the power stays on which renders the range inadequate for a day ride.

This video was published about a week ago but how long ago was it actually made? The Electric has been around in Europe for much longer than a year, since 2017. The model he's reviewing with the blue lightningbolt and blue logo is an old version from years ago, the one with the faulty front mudguard that has apparently not been upgraded on this one despite the recall (battery pack seems upgraded though). Nowadays you can also adjust the speed and lighting wirelessly with your phone on the handlebar, using the app. This said, good review. It's a great bike, I have it myself. But one needs to be aware that there can be motor issues that require changing the whole front wheel. The warranty for the electric parts ends after only 2 years and those parts are expensive to replace once the warranty is out.
@GeekCulture2 жыл бұрын
Hi. We shot this video about three weeks ago. In Singapore it takes months to get approval on electric bikes and thus prob why this is an older one we have for review. We can’t say anything negative about the mudguard as it didn’t affect the ride for us. As for the phone app we weren’t informed unfortunately. If so I would definitely recommend it. With any product that has motors it’s always a gamble after the warranty. Some may find that potential investment not and issue while others will, but I understand your concern with it as if it’s too expensive then it does make one think.

Nice video with fun backgrounds of Sentosa daily life. Have spent years contemplating if to get the Brompton Electric. (vs Brompton + E-Kit; vs copy-Brompton + E-kit; vs dedicated folding e-bike). Conclusions (from selfish/personal perspective): Bromptons are branded - but the Brompton user profile is now embarrassing. (I am also the slightly overweight, 60 year old, Chinese, MBS location rider). Better to get a dedicated e-folding bike with latest design AND a standard Brompton or copy-Brompton. Just remember... it is all about the convenience and exercise - and not about the bike. KPI - is how many times you ride, not how much you spent. For exercise around MBS,, at 60 years old, I skate-surf on a high-end carver board. For transport - nothing beats my Can Am spyder. The Brompton sits by our front door lobby, shiny, but underused.

Thanks for watching and the kind words. Can Am are badass! Congrats on that. Fair points on the brompton and what model to get. As for as the community most I met have been very welcoming but like any community there will be some bad seeds. At the end of the day it’s about the journey and enjoying the feeling of riding. The tool to get there is a personal choice and no right or wrong in my opinion.

There's a bluetooth app for your phone which allows changing assist level as you're cycling, as well as showing your speed, distance, time and average speed. It also keeps track of how many miles you've cycled.

The Brompton battery pack is big, heavy, and antithetical to the Brompton ethos. I would much rather use a Swytch battery and motor. Get a 52T chainring and 9 gear cogs and the Brompton will fly and be lightweight. Right now, the electric Brompton is an albatross.
