I think I was extremely lucky as a kid, there was a guy at our local gw that used to give me and my younger brother old terrain pieces that they either were going to be got rid of or would just be put out back for storage

Thanks for sharing my Warcry board ! I found in the street of Paris this GW board, certainly melted by sun, and decided to save it (and 'cause it was so astonishing to find this!!). Really happy with your comments! Thanks a lot!

I'm so pleased you took my warped diorama into consideration for your video. Thank you so very very much for taking the time to give your expert advice on fixing it (and possible future projects using foam). It is very well appreciated. ❤

For lava flows of a similar effect use a syringe, draw up plaster of paris and squirt it on. I found if you let it sit for a bit it thickens up if you need.

Thanks for the advice! Really cool hearing your thoughts on it. You are absolutely bang on and in hindsight I should have used them for some flatter boards to get rid of the creasing! But we live and learn!

Luke, I've been watching you for a few years now and you (plus Black Magic Craft) have advised my terrain builds. Made a board a few years back which I'm proud of and I can't seem to get rid of even though it's never been used and needs some work. More important, I have seen your skill and knowledge grow over the years but you still keep it real and understand that people are on a budget. Please can you do these review videos as a regular thing,it helps us both with your advice and the exposure. Cheers mate, hope to see you at a Games Con sometime in the future.

I am looking forward to your small scale wargaming. I have started the process of doing the same thing. Converted everything from inch to CM from the board to the units and printed out 2 6k one page rule armies and printed out the board this month. Now to paint everything =) nice thing is the board if fully modular using hexes so I am using your hang it on the wall behind a poster idea. Keep up the good work!

3 levels of board, that would make a great video. You do the expert one, find someone with a little experience and a total newbie to do the other two. You can then get us to vote on the best.

For the distopian resin one, there's the possibility that it can be partially saved with some high gloss polyeurethane brushed over it. Some of that looks like it might be on the sides of it. This also reminds me of back when TerranScapes used to do it...a rather fun thing for learning a lot of random things or getting ideas when it's not one of your own pieces and if it is, can give some ways to improve or fix things

The warping even happens with wood or plywood. Especially the cheap wide planks made from a few 1x2s edge glued. The wood expands and contracts at different rates and the glue bond breaks. Best to immediately coat it with varnish or what ever. I have yet to figure out a way to fix twisted plywood base. Adding a frame of 1x1s will at least hide the twist and the ground cover takes care of the rest of it.
@dirtyhandskev
@dirtyhandskev Жыл бұрын
the reason this happens is because you apply glue or paint or varnish to one side, but not the other. the glue/paint/varnish shrinks causing it to warp. the way to fix this is to remember - whatever you do to the top, do to the bottom.
@sabrekai8706
@sabrekai8706 Жыл бұрын
@@dirtyhandskev True, but in the two cases I've had, I did seal the entire base plate. Next time I'll put on several coats of epoxy. The splitting of the 1x2 glued pieces was fixed by clamping the panel down and driving verrrry long screws in from the sides.
@dirtyhandskev
@dirtyhandskev Жыл бұрын
@@sabrekai8706 imo, I would just stay away from wood in general. Woodworkers use special types of joinery specifically for this reason - wood will always move and swell with temp and moisture no matter what you do to it. Also wood workers account for this with bigger tolerances or grain orientation.

You mentioned researching cosplay for a flexible gaming board. I had an idea years ago for a material that you could consider (I'm not professional so the cost was not feasible). Use silicone to make a mold of an already made table, spray or pour creature cast rubber, embed a fabric mesh for strength, and when it sets you'll have a durable neoprene rubber table. It's paintable with acrylic paints.
@billbenson134
@billbenson134 2 жыл бұрын
Creature Cast is not too expensive for the sizes they offer, but the silicone is what's pricey. Another benefit too is the mold is reusable for mass production.
