In 2005, a 30-second clip of an unknown song was uploaded to the internet. After music enthusiasts spent years searching for the complete track, a longer (but still incomplete) version surfaced on KZbin in 2024. This major development sparked a resurgence in interest to identify the song once and for all…

It's kind of funny that the answer to the mystery was one of the most biggest pop composers in Estonia. Sven Lõhmus is the man who created the girl group Vanilla Ninja. His songs have won awards, ended up on Eurovision, and he was the member in the band Black Velvet which was huge in the mid to late 90s in Estonia.
@Staarchild97
@Staarchild97 Ай бұрын
I saw the name Sven Lõhmus and even though I'm not Estonian, I recognised the name. I looked him up and he went on to do *a lot* of composing and producing for Estonian Eurovision entries. Probably his most famous production work is Rockefeller Street, the nightcore version of which went on to become one of the god-tier songs of early 2010s KZbin. Such a wild connection.

I'll never forget a song I heard twice in the late 2000s, specifically 2009. I had a classic style vinyl record player with a radio component. I was browsing through stations and all of a sudden I came across a song playing on a station I can't remember that went like "This little man, this little man" with almost big band style drums with the vocalist sounding very similar to Colin Hay from men at work. I heard the song again at a Carnival I went to later that year briefly, then after it stopped I never heard it again. I can't find it anywhere on the internet or even a sign it existed. I'm convinced it was something local that eventually became 100% lost media.

This video is encouraging because I recorded a song off the radio with my phone back on May 30, 2017. It was an old phone and loading SoundHound would have lasted about as long as the song, which would have made it for nothing. SoundHound couldn't identify the music from my recording so I uploaded it to my KZbin channel. No person and no app has identified the song so far. It sucks because I really like the song. It sounds like a more aggressive version of New Order in the Power, Corruption, and Lies era. All the DJ had to do was say the artist's name and song title. I also like finding rare and obscure new wave/synth-pop. I never heard of this specific mystery song until this video. I like this Beat Boy stuff.

Perhaps. But the mystery potentially got more people to listen and appreciate the song than if it was never lost. The song got its due credit and then some; and I think that's a good lesson, to never underestimate something that didn't become popular or gain traction when it was first release. We put too much thought into the next big thing that "drops", when we've only scratched the surface of all the things we might like already in existence.

@@CWSchultz I totally agree. I guess my comment came off kinda neutral but I was thinking it's a pity that it was found because now it will get forgotten. This was the inspiration for the 1980 song Spirit of Radio by Rush. there was a Vancouver west coast version of the Spirit Of Radio in Vancouver called CKST, aka Coast 800 AM Later Coast 1040 riding the wave of the 1990's alternative/ grunge explosion. I became a regular listener for the brief 3 years that they existed. Sadly Like the Toronto's original Spirit of Radio which ended in 1988, Vancouver's Coast 1040 went silent in September of 1993.

All of the people helping in finding a lost song is nice. When I was a child, I once listened to a song on a relative's radio thst goes: "Take me to the dance floor, Take me to the moon. I'll take you anywhere and boom, boom, boom." Every now and then I remember the lyrics and the tune but I can't seem to find it online. I get this feeling of sadness thinking that I will never find the song again. Edit: RadicoolJatt told me the song. It is "Happy Group - Boom Boom".
@CWSchultz
@CWSchultz Ай бұрын
Don't give up! Just because the lyrics don't pop up in a Google search doesn't make it impossible. Someone still might recognize it if you continue to spread the word. The mysterious song "I Keep Looking" was sought after by many, but the lyrics weren't in Google; however, with enough sharing on music forums, someone eventually recognized it as "The Livin' And The Dyin'" by Jim Dawson. However, Dawson's song had the advantage of having an audio snippet available for searchers to listen to. Even still, the lyrics you provided are unique enough that someone else who has heard it before is bound to recognize it. Good luck!!

@CWSchultz 16 күн бұрын
Here's an interesting fact: EKT actually wasn't the first mysterious song to be found in an adult film! Both "Friends" and "Please Don't Stop" were also active searches that wound up in a similar situation. So, it's definitely happened before. However, compared to how other mysterious songs were identified, it's still very unlikely that TMS's origins is hiding somewhere in a dirty movie. Furthermore, it's been confirmed that TMS was recorded off the radio; whereas the origins for EKT, Friends and "Please Don't Stop" were all vague (for reasons that are obvious now). As such, I think our time is better spent looking for TMS hiding somewhere other than a vintage adult film; however, there are probably some out there who are more than happy to continue "researching" this theory. 🤣

I have another lost song to mention. Unfortunately, I have no audio to upload. The song came out most likely in late 1992. I heard it on the radio show called U.K. Chart Attack. The song sampled the notorious "squidgy" tapes of Princes Diana with her alleged lover. Male vocals in the beginning in a rap style. He repeated " You'll always be a princess to me, you'll always be a princess". It goes on with the rapper alongside the Diana samples until the chorus is sung by a female vocalist singing the word "Princess" about 4 times in repetition. The dj on UK chart attack said the name of the track was "Princess" by an artist called Blue. I once had this song on tape from that show, but it has been lost to time. I have searched for years to locate this song with no success. It's as if the song never existed. Has anyone out there heard, or heard of this song ??? #squidgy #princessdiana #ukchartattack #lostsong #lostsongs

I'm trying to find a music video. I don't know the band or the song name. The video is the band in a van heading to the beach. There is a girl waiting outside to get picked up. But the band drives right past her and she acts upset. This repeats for a few days until the band finally picks her up and they're all playing around on the beach. There is a large rock sticking out of the water. It was on tv around the time Vampire Weekend did an unplugged set. It would play on Paladia all the time. I used to have it saved on my dvr a long time ago, but I don't have it anymore. I have had zero success trying to search on my own. Thanks for reading this. 🍻

Is it just me or is Lostwave 80's pop rock like 50% of the time
@CWSchultz
@CWSchultz Ай бұрын
It's not just you, and I think it's probably more than 50%. However, it makes sense if you factor how Lostwave music was preserved. In the 1980s, boomboxes and stereos with cassette recorders became more widespread, so there was a surge of people taping music off the radio. When the internet came into popularity 15ish years later, over 99% of songs on these home-recorded cassettes could be identified with the help of fellow music enthusiasts online. However, that fraction of a percent that can't be identified is part of the Lostwave intrigue. Due to most people who were interested in taping music off of the radio in the 1980s were young and listened to pop rock (because that type of music was geared towards young people), there's a higher amount of mysterious songs that fall into that category.
@stellarzoneproductions

@@CWSchultz I see, thanks! I also think it's funny how genres ending with "wave" (e.g. vaporwave, synthwave, lostwave) are all clearly 80's inspired as opposed to the majority of "core" genres
