Love to know the history part. I stayed there in 1984/1985 while I was studying at Deakin. A peaceful place indeed with great people. I spent no less than an hour , each time, on the phone with my former landlord Gary whose is an enlightening guy to me .It always gives me fond memories of the nice people there.

I wouldn't say a great future as the CBD is dying!

Born and bred. Unfortunately the City is run by complete muppets.

You forgot to say greedy corrupt muppetz, it was a great place in the 60's and 70's, i would NOT live there now. Our country is going backwards at a alarming rate because of these UN glory seekers and massive corruption, who owns our country now, Foreign countries because the Pollies sold us out.

It is sadly not the same Geelong that I recall as a boy 50 years ago. Historical buildings re-developed or demolished all at a whim. Fools have make changes then disappear.

All of the industry they mentioned... is all gone now. My beloved Jackos meatworks. I loved working there. Now living in Brisbane where the warm weather lasts longer.

What a load of nonsense. He says that Geelong has now advanced with a focus on education, health services, administration, specialist manufacturing and the new knowledge economy, these are just necessary businesses in a city, just like supermarkets and shops. The loss of the production of tangible goods can only be seen as detrimental.

I was quite fortunate to have visited Geelong back in 1970 to 1974 with my time in the merchant navy. I have very good memories of your beautiful city. I'm looking for a motel/hotel Or big pub. Forgetting the name but thinking on lines of 4 bells motel 3 bells hotel. but even then I could be wrong there? The place was not far from the refinery? Or where we berthed at the time. Can you help?

Could have been the Sundowner hotel, later known as the Bay City Hotel in Corio

Plenty of traffic nowadays and all going nowhere. The city life is no more unless you like the malls.Every one is under one roof and eating shit there...The old shops are no more.No entertainment or culture, the night life is non existant and everyone is either home or have to venture to Melbourn for the spark of life. No imagination is here.

Pity they tore down so many of the old buildings. It would have been a tourism draw.

I really care what happened to them because the land was theirs. They managed it well without pollution the area remained pristine. The same can not be said now.
