If you're a Collingwood supporter you are very lucky. Been watching football since the sixties and this is the best attitude Collingwood I've ever seen. I loved the scrap in the third quarter. They will do anything to win.

True, Geelong didn't play as well as they could have, bearing in mind they had a couple of premiership players not available and lost Stewart & SDK during the game. But as a Geelong supporter I'm not too fazed, I've never seen a marathon won by the athlete who runs out of the stadium first. Geelong will improve, as will Collingwood, the question really is, how much ? Bear in mind Geelong were pretty slow starters last season, as were Collingwood. Time will tell I suppose.
@laurencetilley9194 Жыл бұрын
I totally agree with Chris, the ground is very ordinary, players on both side were loosing grip all night. Hey Chris if you check, the Pies won all the stats. And kicked the last 8 goals of the match. All in all it was a bloody good game of footy and both sides played well, as the score board reflected. It was bad news for the Cats injuries, I hope there were no serious injuries, as it was with Howe's broken arm. It was great to see a few Cats players come up and speak with Howie before he left the ground. It was also great to see some of the Pies boys chatting with Ollie at the end of the game. Both teams will improve, so the next time we meet will be another brilliant game to watch.
@darrenmiles-morland8038 Жыл бұрын
I agree with all of your sentiments. A fierce rivalry has built between the two clubs throughout the past 16 seasons. Neither side gives an inch to the other. Collingwood were better in this one, but Geelong will bounce back very quickly. In my opinion these two teams are the two best teams in the competition right now.

I agree, the extra central umpire is an improvement from the 3 matches I have watched. Loosing footing seemed to be a problem at Marvel stadium today also.

I couldn't agree more with Chris Scott,this game should have been the season opener. If we can't have a Grand Final rematch to start and the game has to be at the MCG then go with the best game featuring a Vic team to get us started.
@azzajames7661 Жыл бұрын
The MCG turf was crap and the MCC should be ashamed of themselves for having a concert two weeks before the AFL season. We are lucky no-one hurt themselves from the different surface's changes in the surface. Go from soft to hard, where injuries happen.

Honestly this goes for any team, and any sport: Even if you lose a player or two if your system is good and your players stick to it and play their roles losing a few players isn't a big deal. You can't rely on a singular player to win you a game. Yes experience will help a ton however each player trains each week, squad depth is essential to running out a season. From a cats fan
@darrenmiles-morland8038 Жыл бұрын
I totally agree. Supporters from most other teams will always blame injuries as an excuse for their team's poor performances. Attitude and lack of work ethic and desperation is a far greater excuse than having some of your best players missing through injury. The Richmond supporters always blame injuries whenever their team gets beaten. They still think that Tom Stewart's hit on Dion Prestia cost them the match against Geelong last season, but their team was in front with less than two minutes to play and they lacked the composure that's required to retain that lead.
@jagathjayasinghe4484 Жыл бұрын
Yes, depth is really important, but when you lose your best player (Tom Stewart) halfway through the game, it is hard to adjust, especially when the game plan or defensive gameplay revolves around him. I think Chris Scott or some other footy commentator explained how even TDK relies on Stewart to perform at his best, just because Stewart instructs and guides the defence. So yes i do agree, you're right you can't depend on a singular player and then sook about how you lost because that player wasn't present. But its a different story when the injury happens mid-game and a plan has been formulated and then you're forced to switch up. Now that we're up against Carlton and its likely that we won't have Stewart, we should create a gameplay that doesn't revolve around Stewart and in that case show our depth.
@mazzoi249 Жыл бұрын
@@jagathjayasinghe4484 Very true. I hate it when fans complain about injury effecting a season, although there are some justified situations, all teams deal with injury, it's a part of the afl unfortunately. But yes key players certainly are brought in to turn the tide of a game, but it all depends on form, fitness and tactics. Not every player can turn up 100% each week.

Collingwood were ok, Geelong just couldn't play after loosing so many plays, they were already down 2 of their best defenders and then to loose their rising star and the best defender in the competition who were also in defense, and to loose the best small forward as well, man, it should have been a belting.
@nickwyllie7563 Жыл бұрын
Only Stewart didn’t return to the ground I don’t want to hear any excuses. You were second best in the first 3 quarters and were fortunate to be ahead with some extremely accurate goal kicking. And in the last quarter you were completely over run by the better team

@@mark8860 geelong had no jack henry, mitch duncan or jake kolodjashnij before the game, all premiership players and defenders, then in the game they lost tom stewart, the best defender in the game, sam dekonning, one of the best defenders in the game, tyson stengal the best small forward in the game and tom hawkins was playing injured. Collingwood won and are a great team, but this was a Geelong side with out any real defenders and an attack with one arm tied behinds its back.

@@nickwyllie7563 De Koning returned but could hardly run. If you were at the game you would've seen him playing on no one jogging around. And Stengle was very beat up during the game and spent a fair bit of time on the bench.
