Thanks for sharing. What's your reason for placing the transmitter on the original part of the signal wire? Is this just to demonstrate it being capable of jumping over the gap(s) at 200kHz? And because you can locate the good end and be sure about its location/direction for maximum coupling? Why wouldn't you inject/bite 200kHz directly onto the wire at the gasmeter (and continue from the point the lower frequency got lost)?

Hi Dietmar, For the first part of you question, I did actually mention this in the description, but basically, whilst it shouldn't really make any difference if you place it where you have found it or a bit further forward where you think it is, the reason I like doing it this way, is because you have more of a chance to pick it up if it does a right angle turn and goes in a different direction. For the second part of your question about why not just bite on to it and do it with 200kHz, that's a great question. Rather than answering it on here with words, I went and got the gear out and grabbed the camera and went and did exactly that to show what happens. Thanks Ben! Much appreciated! I was on the wrong track on how the signal was coupled onto the broken part. so it did not add up in my head why you did place it on the good part. Now I need to play more with the transmitter! Quite a different beast than magnetic coupling with a clamp around a conduction pipe/cable.

@@sdietmar hahahah, yes indeed, very different to the clamp. It's good though that we have all these different options that we can use to try and induce a signal into the utility we are trying to locate.

This is the only time that a jumping signal is GOOD! Haha Great demonstration 💪

Hi Ben, thanks for your video. are you using some kind of Vac truck to dig down.? How do you dig dow so clean?😊

Hey Mohamed, yeah spot on mate, did those two holes with a Vac truck. It does help when you have your own truck :)

Hey Ben. Does the transmitter have to be placed long ways as you have done?
@GeelongCableLocations2 ай бұрын
Hey Tom, generally yes, although it will depend on what type of transmitter you are using, as to which way the antennas in it are facing as each locator is different. Most will have an arrow on the transmitter itself, to let you know which direction you need to place it.
