Why im NOT Set Building Baseball Cards Anymore

Sad to say, I will no longer be SET building any more.
I've decided to take my baseball card collection a diff route, however I will try to complete the famous 1952 topps set and perhaps 53-56 topps/bowman.
Who knows maybe, a year from now I'll get that itch again or perhaps not. I'm just excited on my new journey.

Oh no, I have my heart set on that 1952 topps set!! infact the 1952-56 sets im still going to complete, I don't need that many left for those. as far as everything else, im done.. You need soooo much space if you are set collecting and like putting them in binders. I hear your frustration though. That's the beauty of collecting though, collect how you want, when you want!

duuude for sure, I thought I was going to expand my sets, then I ended up down sizing.. its crazy! I just simply accepted the fact that I don't have the space to do that where I live. but its going to be a direction of collection, and I cant wait to share it with everybody!

Agreed, I'm now 49 and going thru transition myself. I've tons of dead weight. I put together sets they've never even been looked at ever except by me and the printshop. I've now refocused my direction to cards that actually get air-time. What's the point of having cards never to be shown or traded. Out of 750,000 cards I have less than 200 ever get shown, the rest live in boxes. Strangely i did put a 2019 Topps pink refractor set, but otherwise focusing on individual cards

Yeah. It really isn't much fun spending $ and collecting el benchos. I am not a big set builder because of that. Good luck in figuring out your next step. How we collect as indviduals is always changing and evolving. There are cards I wish I kept years ago that would look good in my collection now. But it is what it is. I am quite proud of what I have and we all should be of our collections :)

People should collect what they like, how they like and within their budget. eBay is now overpriced when you include the shipping , tax, and now since I'm in Canada shipping from the USA has about tripled in the last decade. Facebook has given me lots of cards I wanted for my collection, and I also try to find things locally and at shows. I also have 95% of my cards in binders...that's the way I like to store them and it makes them a joy to pull out and look at any time I want. I like how you put a card on the spine of each binder to identify the content! Great video, my friend!

I totally agree, everybody should collect within their budget, and what they want. I'm slowly staying away from Facebook and social media, I use KZbin more now than anything. Local shows are dramatically over priced when it comes to vintage, so I'm kinda stuck with ebay which is okay with me, however adding extra fees now. Ehh, I lost interest in set building. But have many new ideas for my new collection! If you have binders, add cards to them. Gives it character!! Hope to see your collection soon, if not new music!

That's one reason I stopped building modern sets and started buying them complete. I also started selling cards at our local flea market to help pay for this crazy fun hobby of ours. You have to do what is best for you. Best of luck in whatever you do but keep the vids coming

@@geezmikey last year I bought a lot of packs and got in or breaks, so I accumulated a lot of cards I dont want to keep. This year I want to get some graded rookies of some of the greats, and get some higher end and rare cards for my Will Clark super collection.

This is exactly why I have struggled with the idea of building a set... do I really want to collect some of these cards that deep down I had no interest in owning just to "COMPLETE IT". If I do decide to tackle a set I really want to find one that I would enjoy owning them all.... I am in the process of putting together a list of cards that I would like to obtain while attempting to minimize the cards I don't LOVE to own if that makes sense. whats up big mike! you knows whats funny with records, its the opposite as baseball cards.. example.. if you have a mickey mantle card its worth MONEY! but if you have elvis/beatles its not really worth much since its mass produced, unless its a sealed item or rare album cover or something along those lines meaning a lot of mainstream pop songs don't usually sell for a whole lot even if its original, its more of the obsecure stuff that sells. your best bid, is probably putting them in on auction or offer up and sell it as a WHOLE or LOT. BUT!!!!!!..... what you may want to do first.... take a video of what you have and I can tell you if you have any obsecure or hard to find songs from the 50s or 60s. I dee jay 50s 60s music for the past 12 years from doo wop, rockabilly, garage, rhythm and blues etc etc. I have a lot of hard to find records. so I know a thing or two about that. but yeah, make one.. and tag me!

Totally understand Mikey!! I only do a set if I buy a lot of a certain product. I don't have any sets pre 1981. I only buy certain cards of the players I want from 1981 back. I do have a lot of respect for the guys that do the sets. A lot of work!! And cash! No wrong way to collect!

Do the 68 set, it's a simple set to put together. Only high end card would be the nolan ryan everything else you can buy under $100 if you have patience. For my dodgers binders I start off with team cards, then playoff cards, then team sets starting from 1952 to 2018 the by player from A to Z starting by first name.

I thought you were gonna quit set building so you can collect wrestling cards now. 😄 I'm constantly running out of space for binders. I've rearranged my binder cabinet several times. Been considering getting rid of some stuff rather than adding more binders. You just gotta collect the way that makes you happy. If the set building doesn't do that anymore, definitely time to change it up. I like the idea of doing the sets with just the stars and Hall of Famers.

hahaaa, I was actually considering it a few years ago. then I decided not too. I use to collect WWF cards when I was younger, and then I saw this bad ass hulk Hogan wwf binder on ebay long time ago. but no, figured I don't watch wrestling anymore. yes I totally agree, sometimes you just have to clean house and down size and just reconsider your collection. I think what caused this to happened was 2 things... 1) TAXES and 2) finally accepting the fact that I don't have the space to expand my collection. soo, keeping it short and simple.

I understand what your saying about buying cards you don’t really care much about just to complete a set. Do you have card shows near you? They are usually cash and carry no tax. Often times you can get commons cheap too.

honestly, the card shops ive been aren't very big on vintage, the 1 card show I know of that happends every week are crazy over priced on vintage.. I was getting commons quite cheap and by the Lot, but i don't know man, i don't want to do it anymore. 10 yrs of set building is long enough.
