There is a karma angle in that movie. What Deepika done was unethical. What sidharth also done was wrong. And ananya did to Deepika by erasing her out of her father's will was also wrong. Everybody was punished fir their wrongdoings in the movie. I didnt see creaters normalized cheating. Just think about the possible conversations they are going to have after the climax, it will end the relationship between deepika and ananya. Deepika have to reveal that she is behind the murder of Sidharth and face the consequences. That old lady have photographic memory devoid of her age that's explained in their first encounter while she was complaining about her husband's forgetful nature. All characters except Karan and naseerudheen shah is flawed. Karan didnt contribute in running the household and also couldnt help Deepika with her app. Deepika lives in deep regret that her father was responsible for her miserable life as he moved from Mumbai and ended the partnership with ananys's parent's succeful business venture. Naseerudhin shaw didnt tell the dark secret about his late wife to Deepika inorder to save her reputation. The problem with your review is your prejudice about the protagonist. I hated kasaba and hated Arjun reddy except for the songs. Unlike kasaba, Arjun Reddy is going through some traumatic days in his life. You cant expect all characters in a movie should be morally correct. We see it as a story. If you start idolizing that character, then there comes the problem. I felt the movie is like woody allen movies. We are all flawed shazam. We all have our own inner demons. The worst thing for me about this movie is in between cuts they keep putting that swirling blue tides to justify the title. Looked very amateurish.

If you start watching it in first person perspective, if the character dont share any emotional triats or social triats with you, you cant like the movie altogether. Deepika's character is totally messed up character and she has a solid reason for being like that. The problem we find it hard about this movie is its cosmopolitan lifestyle character's having. Which itself is hard for us to digest. Then comes characters with less moral conduct. That becomes iceing on the cake. Both these reasons you will not enjoy it seeing in first person point of view. If we watch in third person perspective or god mode, we can see the characters as it is. The problem with god mode is you cannot be a fan of star. You can only be fan of movie.

The difference between a movie like Arjun Reddy and Gehrayiaan is that the creators are in no way glorifying the actions of the characters. Almost all characters are shown as flawed. The movie shows how childhood experiences and trauma impacts our lives, the people we get attracted to and the choices we make in adulthood. The creators never try to justify the choices the characters make. And I believe the message this movie is trying to convey is that "it's never too late to realize our mistakes and start over."

@@moidu147odo the creators have drawn a parallel between the journey of Alisha and that of her mother's. They are both flawed, miserable and feel stuck in their lives. What matters at the end is the decision made by Alisha to start over, but even as she does, her past keeps coming back to her.

But what she did was kind of shot in a posh and fancy way which makes her a terrible person and even after all that Tia deserved to know and she never does. If the issue with tax and frauds werent there they would have continued the relation and Tia would be still being cheated by both. Arjun reddy has issues but in the same way people can back Alisha s character Arjun can also be backed saying the movie shows the downfall of an alcoholic and drug addict in life and all and say it also has a grey shade.. Trauma is not an excuse but the movie uses it as one

Gehraiyaan: I don't think the level of complexity in our lives can be better depicted than done in this movie. Your life might have bigger problems than shown in this movie but I've never seen such a perfect feat of foolishness, insecurity, anger, anxiety, fear, inferiority, and sacrifices in the Bollywood space. The story has been crafted quite beautifully and tells you it isn't just about lust or cheating but how we humans are a very complex race; emotionally. While the movie may not tell you how best to fix the problems in your life but it'll surely intimate you how it feels to live one miserably. This movie is not the people who'd want things to end hunky-dory and it certainly caught me off-guard with it's dark and exceptional writing as I didn't expect it to be so good.

I was about to comment on Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna before listening to you mentioning about it. I watched that movie when I was in 6th std and I just hated that movie because of the morality issues potrayed as divine love and somehow started to hate SRK and Rani Mukherjee just because of the characters they portrayed. I haven't watched it after that, but as far as I remember, they first cheats, then only they leave their respective partners. Since the main characters were the ones to cheat and later they gets back together, I have always felt even that movie gives a wrong message.

The reviews about this film reminds me of reviews for a book called A Little Life. The book is famous as an extremely sad book. But most reviewers I saw agree to it but doesn't recommend the book. One review said the main problem was, the book was trauma porn. You know just trauma for the sake of trauma, without a reason. Only bad things keep happening to the main lead and all of that is explained graphically. The reviewer asked why such a book was written. I feel the same way because I wouldn't want to buy a book and read about pain which is deliberately given to the character with nothing except pain in the book. But I remember reading once that films like Saw, depict graphic violence because there is an audience. So I am starting to feel that there maybe people who enjoy such things. But these are not for general audience. Though this particular movie is not as extreme as the other examples mentioned, it just reminded me of it.

I dont think this film is vouching for or is an advocate of infidelity....it just shows how hard life actually can be...how people are..out in the real world...there is no black and white...its all grey...and i think such efforts needs to be appreciated...life is not always rainbows and roses.....as a man who is going through something similar to the plot in this movie...i can relate it very well...actually i havent yet seen the movie...im afraid i may go through the trauma once again..but i think i have to give it a go...the impact this movie gives is commendable...no doubt

Actually, I can understand Shazz perspective. Nobody wants this in their own lives. But the movie depicts the complex lives of a few people really well. This is not a documentry or life guide. Not all movies are meant to just amuse or motivate. Nerkaazcha ennonnundallo. Whether you feel happy or sad or angry at the end of the movie doesn't mean the movie is good or bad; it only refers to how much you liked or could relate to it - something everyone is clearly entitled to. Dear Shazz bro, I didn't like (the theme of) Arjun Reddy, I disliked the movie. But it is a good movie by making (my opinion). More or less same for Gehraiyaan - first half was boring, filled with infidelity and stuff, strong picturisation of character and performance, story development which happened towards the second half made it a good movie for me, worth the time I spend watching. But I'm not saying my heart was filled with bliss or the society should be filled with people like this. It really shows you how life/bad choices messes you up! The only cons I felt were superior performances by Siddant and Ananya, made Deepika's lead performance look a little overshadowed and the usage of 'fuck'. Not that I'm against swearing, the characters in many instances were using it a lot, but as a listener I felt like the characters/actors themselves are not so comfortable to be using it so often. Totally agree with you, especially the last point about the usage of the f-word😅. I felt they were using the word in places where it wouldn't be used in real life and like you mentioned, in some scenes the characters themselves didn't really look too comfortable with saying 'fuck' every two seconds. I liked the movie as a whole, but like Shaz bro said, it doesn't really put you in a pleasant mood and definitely doesn't send the right message since lot of actions done by the characters are ethically questionable, but after all, it is a movie and I personally did like it overall. If it was just about the infidelity, then it would've been a big failure for me, but the latter stages of the second half saw a lot of development in the story, definitely it's not the best story, but I felt a lot of it was okay. Some things I absolutely loved were the cinematography, editing, production design and the locations. Really liked the songs too.

The movie actually shows how human beings’ emotions can actually affect their decision makings. And those decisions they take can really have a hard toll on their lives with big big consequences (like Deepika’s, her mum’s, her dad’s and the guy’s lives). At the end of the day, u realise ur mistake and “give urself a chance” like what Nasrudeen Shah said. It really shows life is all about choices and mistakes AND moving forward giving urself a chance again, each day. Life is not always abt happy moments, roses and rainbows or people being black and white (bad and good), everyone are in the grey area. You never know who is good or bad, it totallly depends on the situation and choices. And also it showed that Past trauma(s) really makes a big difference in how we choose to view things and how we end up deciding. In fact, in my own personal experience, moving on from past trauma is really really difficult and painful. Sometimes some incidents just make you think of ur past very easily. All the flashbacks just come thru ur mind automatically even if we try to avoid. The movie also showed her taking pills. People should really Seek help for those who really need it. Talk to someone . Seek help . Leave ur past behind (Leave, not forget). Take ur past as a learning lesson and move on. That’s what the movie actually depicted imo.

It doesn't justifies infedelity / leaving your 6 years partner for a rich random guy etc. These things can happen to anyone. And nobody is justifying it. The only thing it depicts is the peak of human emotions. How lack of money or how your circumstances can make you end up in life. Hence the difference in the 1st and the 2nd part. Life is not always colourful and nice. And so are people, they don't always make the best choices. Mistakes can happen to anyone. Whatever they choose, they will have to face the consequences. That's the movie Gehraiyaan. A very well made & a very nice movie.

I must appreciate a young guy like you on having correctly assessed the botched up movie Gehraiyaan. Not only is the script a complete mess, so are the actors. They seem to be under some delusion that the movie is an in-depth exploration of childhood traumas. And forgive me for thinking that this was NOT India, rather an affluent group of individuals leading a westernised lifestyle, somewhere in Australia. But then that's how Hindi movies are. It would be foolhardy to expect anything else. Having tasted good scripts and excellent acting in lots of Malayalam movies, I find movies like these unpalatable. And if there's anyone out there who feels wowed by these, then all I can say is I pity their lack of apprehension of the real and surreal. My advice to them - Just grow up !!

SPOILER: Whattt??? Have you watched the movie,lol. Kabhi alvida na kehana justifies infidelity. When both their partners were so good to them, they decided to cheat on their partners. Dev( srk) was even soo rude to his own sun. He was so unsupporting to his wife’s successful career.Yes after all the fun and cheating they decided to come clean , their partners( who were so blindly trusting them) got cheated, hurt and the cheaters got back together. Happily ever after. Now gehraiyaan. Yes it shows about partners cheating as well. You were ranting about alisha(deepika) not leaving her partner.Deepika decided to break things with her fiance as it wasnt working out. She had a terrible past and she was able to connect with sidhhaanth( zain) who turned out to be a manipulator and things didnt end well for him. And deepika was also still haunted for the mistake she did( final scene). The film in no way promotes cheating but also shows that you wont get away easily with it. Yes the movie has its flaws as well. But you are exaggerating.

The theme of relating life with waves is what making the movie "slow paced" as he's referring it, but that's the beauty . Well...i liked th movie. The cinematography is good.it deals with raw human emotions, anxiety issues, trauma.. just flawed people being shown as flawed. Nowhere is no action of anyone justified. Even the element of karma has been shown in th movie.. ananya doesnt get to keep the wealth tht ws not rightfully hers. Moreover , the old lady's appearance at th end( who had a sharp memory ) is pure indication that deepika's secret will be reveales befre ananya. Even she'll face consequences of her action.. she messes up things with her irrational fears borne frm her experiences and when at last , she tries to move on , the past seems to haunt again.. its a deep raw movie indeed. In arjun reddy th character is glorified. Here no one is glorified..its a story.. movies r not meant to teach moral lessons.. watch it as a story.. just showing people.. how badly one can end up messing up things...be it deepika or sid's character, it explores love, career..how priorities change when so much is at stake. Its not a fairytale.

I just thought that the movie does a good job in portraying the human side of things, especially handling morals in relationships and moral dilemmas, which is again a very complicated topic for films. you cant always teach values and moral science through movies. better show what's really out there. Actually there is no chemistry meant to be between these characters. Its a relationship out of conveniences. Sidharth wanted a less controling girl friend. He is foreshadowed by his fiancé ananya and her mother puppeteering her to catch up with sidharth's affair. Sidharth want to be independent and he is a dreamer who believes in himselves too much. He didnt come from a rich household. Devoid of his bad childhood, he became successful in his life. Out of pride and as he was secretly dating Deepika, he could not take further help from ananya's parents. And he even returned the stake owned by ananys's parents. Deepika is a gold digger. She want to have a better life. Her boyfriend has quit advertising job and want to become a writer which he fails miserably. She dont see a future with him. She thinks she is reincarnation of her own mother. She thought her mother commited suicide because of the life choices her husband made. Actually she commited suicide out of guilt that she cheated on her husband and even deepika is not her husband's offspring. So the chemistry is not meant have. No couples in the movie should look compatible. I felt like its a creative decision. The movie is about greed, lust and ego. And how you will end up in life with all these evils.

I think this film is totally devoid of all that, and as a result, the whole drama and all just comes off incredibly underwhelming and poorly constructed.

@@jahidfasal your views could be fair!... may be there was no chemistry ment between these two so called lovers, in the film and that could be a creative decision from the makers, but they did try to squeeze in a lot of sex scenes whic kinda makes the audience feel like they are having a good time after all, and Siddarth does say to deepika that we could be happy if we are together. But still there was no true intimacy between the two and ofcoz sid dint hesitate much when trying to kill her. But i just wished that the lovers wer finding tru happiness in each other, that could have been an even better and interesting plot. Anyways Im well aware of deep shit like these that happen in our times...greed,lust,betrayal and what not... so i dont find any point in purposefully degrading a fair attempt like this, i think the subject of the movie is well on point !

Totally agree bro. 🫂👍 The same director directed similar subject in 2016 in the movie Kapoor and Sons. Arguably that had life to the characters and performances were top notch. In fact the movie is still one of the best movies of last decade. But this movie was bull shit. Deepika's performance was below par that sometimes you felt the acting was fabricated to go with the plot which itself is a let off. Siddhant seemed like he's on a fashion tour. 0.05% of the population in India would have a business life like him, and such life will be glorified by a producer like Johar. Now coming to the only good aspects of the movie, the music was cool, shades used in cinematography were proper, and Naseeruddin Shah's last conversation brought tears. That's all. Good review 👍
