This is a great video, featuring the Gehl forage line for 1967. There is a lot of Gehl equipment in this video, as well as a good amount of the tractors from that era. There's also a cameo by an IH crawler. Will see if you can find it.
Enjoy!!

My dad was a gehl dealer back in the day for many years I can still remember when I was a young boy I make many trips with my dad and big flat bed truck to the gehl factory in West bend Wisconsin and picked up new gehl farm equipment when I got old enough he sent me to the gehl factory in west bend Wisconsin to pick up new gehl equipment I thought I was in heaven that was a big deal to me to get new equipment by myself the people at the factory treated me like a king loved to go there I really miss those days

It was a sad day when Gehl stopped their Farm Equipment line. They made great machines.

That was an impressive silo then, 30x90! I was actually thinking that 806 gas on the Chop king burned up all the fuel to light off the energy crisis!

The 301 in the 806 sips gas like the Queen sipped tea, compared to the Chop King with the big 427 Waukesha in it. In heavy corn with the three row, you can expect to fill the 50 gallon tank twice a day. Three times if you work late into the night. Can't imagine the Jimmy was that far behind. I think it was the 4/71, so add oil & antifreeze consumption to that, too. 😁

In name only, they were bought out or sold to, I can't recall which, a bigger company and a line of equipment they excelled at manufacturing was shelved.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but here in the UK The company was known as Europa Gehl.. Local farmer had one of their choppers in late 60s early 70s..

Those stalk choppers looked like they did a nice job. I wonder why dad and Uncle Tom didn’t chop their stalks? I remember the plow plugging on corn stalks more then not.
@dwightl5863

Probably the expense of a piece of equipment that was used but once a year. Also the cost of another past over the field. I do remember plowing cornstalks being troublesome.
@ikonseesmrno7300

dwight is correct. Many farmers weren't going to spend an extra penny if they didn't have to. As for the stalk choppers, they did a great job! They still have something of a following, too. Saw one at an auction last fall, in rough but good mechanical shape, that brought $760 before fees & tax. That's also the cost of a new set of knives for it.... which it badly needed. The same auction had two Chop-Alls & four heads in very nice shape. Those followed me home for half the price of the stalk chopper. The prices at that sale were all over the place. Still kicking myself for passing up piles of original Gehl parts, but I would have needed to build more storage for what was there. But they were cheap!!!! Argh! Lol!

You know. I think I’m gonna make a Farmsim 22 mod of the pull type chip king. It’s gonna have a cutter bar, two-three row corn head, and a bale shredder! Either the gehl if I can find enough pics or a fox super 1000

I might be mistaken but aren't farmers nowadays using bunker silos instead of the traditional tall and round silos?? Do modern farmers hire a private company that owns silage choppers (Claas comes to mind) to do the silage chopping?? The last 2 years in Minnesota have been drought full! What is the point when a farmer realizes the crop is $hit and needs to be scavenged as silage?? How much money do farmers get from Govt. subsidies?? A certain youtube farmer didn't answer my questions...I'm a curious $hit...
@MorganOtt-ne1qj
@MorganOtt-ne1qj Жыл бұрын
Private custom operations often harvest silage if the farmers don't do it themselves, not the machinery company. The "government payments" are really just a guarantee to the insurance company in case of widespread damage that exceeds the premium paid by the FARMER.
@jamesolson9423

Government Subsides varied from year to year. They intend is to keep farmers in business. The porpoise of government funding is to guarantee an adequate food supply for everyone. Thi the supply and demand of the food supply ai the grocery store.

It's a great idea! Feed so good the cattle fight for it. Though, I never thought I would see a fight at a buffet in a tractor film.
