This is so helpful, thank you! I'm doing a cruise with my parents and want something easy going and the hop-on hop-off sounds perfect for us.

Shirley, this is such good advice! We had booked an excursion through Get You Guide that was scheduled to begin at 1:00. Since our ship is supposed to arrive at 11:00, I was feeling ok about it, even if we were tendering. I just got an email from Get Your Guide with a change in start time - 12:00. Nope. I think we will simply take the Hop On Hop Off bus instead.

So glad this helped. If your ship is scheduled to tender I would definitely not recommend that close of a tour time. If your ship is the lucky one to dock right there, and if Get your Guide will wait if you are a little delayed, then you could possibly risk it.

@@shirleysjourneys9505 I took a look at the NCL excursions offered, and tenders were mentioned in the descriptions. Decided to go ahead and book one that included seeing the Seven Sisters Waterfalls, as it didn't look like the Hop On Hop Off went quite that far. Now it's up to NCL for the timing! More expensive, of course. I hate that part.

This was helpful for me thanks! Our cruise doesn’t show the hop on hop, but it’s nice to know I can get a ticket in town.

I believe that from next year you won't have to worry about large cruise ships stopping at Geiranger as the Geirangerfjord is being closed to non electric powered ships. Only the local electric ferries and a few hybrid coastal ferries will be able to enter the fjord so much less problems with excessive amounts of tourists arriving at once.

I'm so glad I got to visit by cruise ship. It made me want to explore Norway another time in a different way. I feel sorry for those who will probably never go since ships won't be allowed unless they go electric. However, I can certainly understand the appeal of having less tourists in such a beautiful place.

@shirleysjourneys9505 It's not so much the numbers as to protect a world heritage site from being polluted by the very large cruise ships exhaust fumes. Even when they burn low Sulphur light fuel oil it still pollutes and this can collect in the fjord creating a haze. Smaller ships like the Havilla coastal ferries that also do cruises can sail for up to 4 hours on electric so will still access the fjord in summer and will be more local fjord trips available.

Great video. I'm glad to have come across your video. We actually on a fjord cruise from Hellesylt and we have a 4 hour in Geiranger. We will look for the hop on hop off bus. Hopefully we can find it. How much did you pay for it?
@shirleysjourneys95056 ай бұрын
I believe it was about $45 USD per adult when we went.
@NLMusique6 ай бұрын
@@shirleysjourneys9505 thank you. We decided to go back to Hellesylt without staying once the cruise gets there. There seems to be not much to do in Geiranger

Shirley, with the hop on and off bus, does it stop at each spot: 2,3, 4 going out and coming back? Wondering if a person can get off at the Nor. Center on the way back to town, and then just walk into town. Or if it makes a circle. TY !

I am sorry. I do not remember exactly what we paid, but we booked through city-sightseeing.com. You might go to that website to see what the current pricing is.

Why would you use Tinder when you are arriving at a port?
@shirleysjourneys95059 ай бұрын
Sometimes a ship docks in port and guests can get off directly in port. Other times, ships will either be too large to dock or the docking locations are already reserved by other ships. When that happens, as on my cruise, the ship will drop anchor and guests will have to ride smaller boats (called tenders or water shuttles) to get from the ship to the pier.
