My gelatos were one of my first journaling supplies but are my least used. Thanks for this tip -- looks like just what I need to bring those back out.

I've never thought to use my gel medium as a texture paste. I buy the light texture paste from liquitex so it's not as heavy but it wouldn't work for my bible. So thanks for the tip. I think I'll try tomorrow.

if you place the whole stenc lill on the page then tape off the edge of the words you get the whol page with continuity

I like the Dina Wakley Clear Gesso (for when I want something with a little more grip to it...like for watercolors) and the Dina Wakley Matte Gel Medium (for using as a glue or for prepping pages).

I think you probably could. It may not be quite as thick so it may run a little more under the stencil but it's worth trying.

Is a gel medium the same as gesso?

Gesso has some absorbent properties and so it works a little better with wet mediums on top....Gel Medium dries slick, so products will pool more on top and some won't ever dry on top of gel medium. Gel medium can be used to glue or seal things down better than gesso. For this technique you might be able to get away with using gesso but I find the gel to be a little thicker which is better for going through a stencil.
