16:10-"Do a beryl roll!" I'd always heard that Murfreesboro, Arkansas is the only place in the US where you can dig up diamonds, but that might just be something that the Murfreesboro Tourism Committee wants you to believe.

Herkimer is from New York- is it not as hard as the Arkansas? I have a few precious Arkansas diamonds, specimens, gifts. I am in Ga., for now and have been a rock hound since childhood. I used to find garnet and sapphires in the gravel of soapstone streams- I'd stretch out on a big rock, and start sifting through the goodies. I need to get out and do some of this again, thanks for reminding me.

They ran out of gems decades ago. They salt the digs with gems from their mines in Brazil. 😮😢

I think that this is the same mine that I went too back some years ago. You pay a fee at their roadside shop and they drive you up to the mine. Seems like it might have been called the Brushy Creek Mine? Anyway, people are going there in hopes of finding unsalted in-situ material after they do supposed blasting. I noticed the same thing when I was there, some very convenient pieces of aqua, garnet, etc. lying about on the surface which could be from the blast I suppose however it wouldn't be too hard to spread this stuff out on the soil just prior to having a group up there either. The one thing that I noticed is that I never saw any in-situ aquamarine crystals of the quality of some of the loose material which made me wonder. We did find non-gem common beryl and yellowish beryl in the host rock on a few boulders and even some garnet and schrol tourmaline. However, there was a lady who picked up a hunk of aqua the size of my fist lying fairly close to where we parked and it had no matrix attached. So who knows? Whatever the case it was fun but after that experience I realized that it is best to get permission and try to go to old abandoned mines like the Ray Mine in Yancey County or the Little Pine in Madison County and others as you know that there was no reason for anything that you might find to have placed there. I'm not saying that this was the case at Gem Mountain when I went as it may have not been but as a long time mineral collector I found it odd that such nice pieces of material seemed to be just lying about the rubble and the host rock seldom had anything resembling the loose stuff. Again....we did find some material that I feel sure was all natural and native such as some common beryl crystals and small garnets that were nice so overall the experience was worth it, especially for those who are beginners or can't get to harder localities, etc.

Hey thank you for your insights, we hope to do more adventures like this in the future and are still pretty new to the mining and what area/locations are best suitable for it. We appreciate the feed and it honestly was a great experience and one of the best memories we have made and shared on our channel ❤️

True and real question, is their mine salted or are these real gems from North Caraliona? I know NC is known for Rubies, Emeralds, Hiddenite, garnets, amethyst and aquamarine. But this looks like the type crystals you can buy in the buckets. They are real and nice, but really no chance at that cutable gemmy crystal with value. That is what you (Pay for) in places like Topaz Mt. in Utah if you buy the blasting package. They will blast for you, but your gonna pay. But, you get beautiful topaz. Just curious, we were thinking of visiting Hiddenite, Gem Mt, or the Cherokee Ruby n sapphire mine if God wills this Thanksgiving while we are all in Gatlinburg, Tn. Thanks and great finds.

Hi thank you for your comment, Im not sure if the mine is salted but that wasn’t the impression we got, all of the gems we find in the video are in fact real gems native to the great state of NC. I would say if you want a true raw gem finding experience then Hedinite would be the place to check out. It is much harder to find the gems 💎 in this location as you can see in our other Hedinite mountain video we barley found any, but it’s a great and budget friendly place to start for sure. If your not to worried about budget and want some guaranteed gem 💎 finds then definitely check out Gem Mountain. From our experience they do blast the location from time to time with explosives making it easier to find the great gems buried in the earth. I would say we loved gem mountain more even if it did cost more but we think it’s certainly worth the extra $$

@Lavish LifeStyle This couldn't be further from the truth unless you were talking about the dig site. The creek is heavily salted and is a tourist trap, and the dig site is picked over bones. I've heard Gem Mountain is better.

Hey thanks for the comment, now that you mentioned it the light does not give the color justice, I’ll be sure to make future videos showing off the colors of the crystals with better lighting.

True, I have been there! The emeralds at Hoot Owl mine, come from Brazil! Greasy Creek, they throw handfuls of garnets, aqua, and Crystal points into that pit! Fun to find, but not local!
