I used to reverse with my Gemini but had always found that the plate would warp badly, that was using the large plate with it so since then I go 1 way only and it doesn't matter if I use the large plate or the Gemini Junior plates.

I think if you angled the first die so it wasn’t straight it would have cut, but great idea, I use a different sandwich, but great idea

Yes generally if you angle the die it will cut straight away but there are still some dies that don't seem to like cutting first go :)

That's what I do, angle the die just a little and it will cut perfectly.

Is your green mat the same thickness as the clear plates or the plastic shim?

It is about the thickness of the clear plates. The more delicate dies I have found to add some cardstock in order for it to cut nicely first time.
