My mum and dad separated when I was 10, and by the time I turned 11, he was completely gone, which had given me major anxious attachment issues, that when someone leaves, I do my best to hang on to them, even if it isn't beneficial to me anymore. I recently had someone very significant to me (platonic), who walked away, and I let this go. However, my most recent romantic partner left a few weeks back, and I stepped into old habits of trying to pull them back in for fear of abandonment.. However, now I'm back at the point of acceptance, so I'm definitely learning! But I recognise the initial habit formed because of my dad.

Expectations are a natural part of a relationship. It's such bullshit to say otherwise. And especially after somebody fucked you up and you allowed bullshit to happen because you were open and didn't want to put expectations on them. I am always going to have expectations. I understand what you are saying, natural healthy expectations are important, but most people are placing unhealthy expectations on others due to trauma, without realizing. Check out the “expectation effect” it will maybe change your perspective or at least give you some insight into why I say it. 🤗 although, I do get your point, and understand.
