There is nothing wrong with having a full time regular stable job. Social media has pushed this narrative of starting your own business and becoming a millionaire with millions of followers. But it takes a lot of hard work , sometime you fail sometimes you win , or if you are lucky , you are born into wealth. Like I said nothing shameful with having a steady source of income with health insurance and benefits from a job, and then doing KZbin on the side .

I'll explain why I personally unsubscribed and gave up on the Gempire. But first, let me say that I wish you the best. Based on your persona, I think you are probably a genuine person. I used to rock with Gem and the gang heavily. The channel used to emanate palpable enthusiasm surrounding the hobbies, all from a relatable personality. Early Gem was someone I could vibe with-a slightly ratchet dude, probably older than he looks, who just likes cool stuff. I connected with that. I would watch statue videos at work on the sneak, trying to come up on a Thanos on throne. I legitimately wondered how this dude was hustling up all this cool product. Statues weren't my world, but you made them approachable. But man, the weekly comic reviews were it. Easy, relatable reviews-not overthought or overly clever. So many reviewers are bitter, overstimulated, and jaded, taking things way too seriously. It was like kicking it with a homie you didn't know messed with comics. Like how strangers in Jeeps wave at each other over shared interest. Fast forward to the ComicTom and Whatnot shine, con controversies-all of it. Everything just kind of went lame duck. The content had a tonal shift towards something more akin to another hand reaching for my pockets. I will never knock a man for hustling. Get your money. But you guys genuinely messed the game up with Whatnot and CGC. Sure, it would have all happened anyway most likely, but it’s all sketchy, and you guys were the faces of that shift. Fairly or not, that’s your legacy right now. It seemed like everyone was clout-chasing, gassing each other up, trying to be celebrities within a niche hobby while simultaneously turning their backs on it. No reviews, no engagement. Hell, Tom bought some stuff off me on eBay, made two videos about it, and couldn’t even tag my accounts. Which is okay, but it's not relatable to me. My time is precious, and I'm sure many people feel that way. Unfortunately, I think you were simply used up by bigger players as you took it for granted. Meanwhile people like myself walked away to our regular lives. I wish you all the best, and if you’re going to make content, I hope you find your passion. Best of luck, broski.

I saw this same thing happen with my parents, albeit without the comics and KZbin aspects. They were in a great financial situation with both incomes, almost paid off their house which was more than big enough for the two of them and my sister. Then mum got the great idea to sell that one and scale up unnecessarily. They didn’t use the extra space she claimed she needed when they built it, dad lost his job right before Covid, and then they were doing it tough. Had to sell a bunch of stuff and cut back on luxuries, couldn’t do much fun stuff, etc. If they had’ve stayed and paid off their first house, my dad losing his job when he did would’ve made zero impact. I learned from their mistake and will never sacrifice financial security and the comfort that brings for anything. Really respect you for keeping it real and making the right choice here 👌🏻

Your reviews of Berserk statues and manga really made me a fan, I got back to reading it and now it's my number 1 manga of all time. I miss those reviews of new omnis and hauls. Growing up, I lived in a large house designed and built by my dad. After he passed away, my mom struggled with the upkeep of such a big place. The house required constant cleaning and repairs, and she started buying unnecessary items to fill the empty spaces left by my siblings moving out. When I moved to Tokyo, I chose a smaller place. From my experience, I realized that larger spaces tend to encourage accumulating things you don't really need.

I paused the video to get my thoughts in order. I've been supportive for years, Gem, you know that. I'm going to keep it 100. WhatNot caused the channel to suffer. This is not a reflection of you, just a fact. I've seen the same thing happen to other channels that pushed WN. A part of me thought you were burned out on YT. Yet I still look forward to your videos on a weekly basis. You need to go back to the basics, do what you did to get you here. Regularly scheduled content based on YOUR interests. We all share your interests, that's why we're here. We know you have to eat, and I respect it, but the reason we all show up is for you, dude. Two biggest things that can cause a business to fail, start up, and expansion. I don't think you intended to start as a business, but expansion takes more work than starting up and in this case, more regularly scheduled content would greatly help, not just sponsors. We have all the love in the world for you dude, keep it simple.

Not saying you need to repeat the past but just enjoying what you are sharing with us will come through on its own. Looking forward to future videos. Hope everything works out financially for you. Not 100% sure if it's an option for you but you could do a HELOC on the house or your paid off house if you still own it. You could draw off that to bridge the time between now and when the house sells or if the channel picks back up for you.

Bought an 800k house with $5k a month mortgage. Got there and only ended up making “x” a year… packed up and sold the house within 7 months… lowered the price twice because no offers and market stalled in FL. I remember screaming “DONT DO IT!” at my phone when you first made the video announcing that you were going to quit your job and move to a bigger house, but you are 100% correct. People make mistakes and learn from them which is a great thing and luckily the things you’ve spent money on are worth something and not like drugs, drinking, or gambling so there is options for turnaround. Only suggestion I would make to you if later on you bounce back and want to upsize your house would be to live in your smaller house and “act” like your bills are higher and set all of that aside so when/if you move again you can just pay that house off entirely.

Words of a true man is being completely honest with himself and those around him. This is part of what makes you my favorite gem. You are so relatable to your average person in terms of perspective and love of the hobby. Yea not everyone can afford those XM studio and prime statues, but the nerd in all of us can relate to that joy of comic books we like. Keep staying minty fresh.

I wouldn't call this a mistake, just a...bump in your road of life. Sometimes we need the big bumps like this to learn, and to grow, and to evolve, and to carve out future success. I do think you'll get back on your feet and find your footing again. To me, you've been a great man, generous, and kept it real. Hell, people don't believe me when I tell them I won a statue from you and you shipped everything to me for free. These kind acts will hopefully come back 10 x for you and your family. Keep going. Stay strong. We're with you.

I've watched a lot of channels, and I've never taken joy in down times for creators. I hope it goes better for you. You guys aren't doing nothing, and it takes more time and $ than probably anybody realizes. Moderation is the key to life, or at least balance. Sometimes, it just takes a realignment, and you might end up even better off than before. If it's right, it's right for you. F what anybody else thinks.

The comic and Collectibles market has taken a tremendous hit. But hey, you did something few people ever do. You took your shot and hit the top. Going forward, hopefully everything shakes out in your favor. You're still a young guy and life turns on a dime. I can't tell you how many times over the years that I've turned comics to cash out of necessity. My collection is the smallest it's been in years, but the quality is higher than ever. Good luck, good sir.

Discovered this channel back when you were doing the “every omnibus” videos. I was just getting into the hobby and I really gravitated to how authentic and genuine you came off and I’m sure that’s why your channel took off the way it did. We didn’t need to know your situation and you still decided to let us in and be honest, that speaks to your character and that’s why you’re one the best on this app. Keep going bro. The best is yet to come.

@@GemMintCollectibles it's all good my friend. It's not that I have anything against you or your channel, I have not. I appreciate you and your work and I was a subscriber and follower since day 1. It's just that the content wasn't for me anymore and our "stories" didn't aligned and I stopped following and unsubcribed. But, as you can see, I never stopped caring to know how things are with you and your channel. I wish you all good man, from the bottom of my heart. Hey Gem, been a while buddy. Commenting for the first time in forever because I have always known that you, and Phie and the girls are amazing people and want to show my support. First, let me be honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of the overwhelming WN content that started about a year ago. So, I decided I wanted to bow out of actively participating in the community for a bit, which turned out to be until just now 😂. I kept my YT membership this whole time and watched videos when I could just to see how you were doing and continue to support you in some way. I know you made the best decisions you could to provide a better life for your family, help grow the channel and keep content creation as your full time gig and I sincerely applaud that tenacity. Being vulnerable to this community shows a level of humanity that we all share outside of these hobbies and you’ve shown that side of you ever since I first found my guy (wait is that “Everlast”) way back when. I want to wish you the best of luck and hope to see more updates on your progress and continued success. It’s a journey that many of us go through and learn from. You are 100% gonna make it out on top again either by getting a full time gig, by downsizing casa de Gem or some great scheme that Phie concocts (I still want to buy a bag btw 🤣). I have always fully supported and more importantly respected you and am glad that you are still hungry to do this even though things are getting tough. Much love to you and the fam! ❤️💎
