Lapis lazuli always makes a nice cabochon. Also anything with chatoyancy.

An unboxing showcasing crystal growth habits would be interesting, it's a pretty broad subject if you include twinning/terminations/etching etc... No doubt you guys would have a wonderful selection of unusual specimens to show off.

I started my jewellery career making cabs at the local rock club, it's an awesome way to get started with collecting. oh with the triplets it will be crystal opal on a black backing or with black epoxy between the backing, no one in their right mind would ever triplet real black opal even if it's a paper thin bar you just leave more potch on the back for stability and adjust the price accordingly. If you make it into a doublet or triplet you will make the opal worth a fraction of what it is naturally, that's why it's generally white or semi crystal cut thin enough to be classed as "crystal" opal that's why they don't mind stretching the opal with slicing the initial value is nowhere near real black opal and you can get like 30-40 slices per inch from good Coober rough

I swear there is a collective unconscious with rock and mineral enthusiasts. I just made my first cabachon out of some rhodonite 2 days ago! (At least the first that turned out looking like a cab) This isn’t the first time one of these videos has aligned with an event or mineral discovery in my life too! Synchronicity! thank you guys for doing this channel. It’s been a big part of my journey into a new passion.

Ooh - You might be a good person to ask: What is the difference between rhodonite and rhodochrosite?

Pardon us for jumping in....though both come in similar colors, rhodonite is harder and more durable than rhodochrosite. Rhodonite is frequently veined with black, while rhodochrosite can be banded with colors ranging from pink to very pale. In rhodochrosite, boundaries between these layers might appear serrated and you may note differences in polish/luster due to the different orientation of the crystal grains.

Rhodonite is the pink with black shiny going thru it- rhodochrosite is the more elaborate one that can look sort of like an agate in its “stalactitic” form. With more varied light and dark colors. Feel free to correct me if my info here is wrong ❤️

Wow! So much fun! Cabochons are beautiful and can be made into all kinds of jewelry! That pietersite was gorgeous! Iove pietersite. That dino bone was awesome! Such a nice one too! There was just so many really awesome cabs! Thanks for the wild walk through them! ❤

I started wire wrapping cabs 10 years ago and interestingly…today I took inventory of what I have, 150 gorgeous cabs that I have gotten for very little from, mostly the Middle East. I have several of what you looked at. Very exciting!. ♥️

Some great gems, cats eye stones might be a nice idea. But I would love an opal episode, I collect gemstones but drifted into mainly opals. I found it comes from lots of areas and have some from Bohemia and Honduras as well as the usual areas. The variation from mine to mine as well as different locations within countries. as areas of the

The world of gemstones and minerals is so massive and continuously evolving that no matter what other gemstones or minerals I could think to suggest, my list would still be incomplete. Having said that, I wish there'd been Carmeltazite, Amazonite, Bumble Bee Jasper, and Ruby Fuchsite in this clip. As for Maw Sit Sit, it almost sounds like something you'd say to your mom if she insists on giving you her seat. Fun fact: those tiny tracks and tunnels in fossilized bone are called canaliculi.

I LOVE this video!! 😍😍 You brought out amazing stones and many of them I have never seen!! I've only been wrapping and weaving cabs for 2 years, so I have a lot more to learn!! 😉 One thing I was hoping you would mention are the different shapes of cabochons. Of course there are the easy ones, oval, square, rectangle, teardrop, marquis, but I have some shapes that I would love to know what they are. I searched online last year and couldn't find much information than those I mentioned. I think many other 'newbies' to this awesome craft would most likely love to learn as much as I do. ❤🥰 Thank you so much for this awesome video fillied with so many amazing stones!! Please make more videos with cabochons made from beautiful cristals/minerals/metals from around the world!! 💞😍💞

PSILOMELANE!!! It is by far my favorite. Some people will acid etch the psilomelane, and it turns the layers into bright white & black like a zebra. It's such an amazing mineral rock oxide thing. I get mesmerized for hours while looking into the deep dark depth of noir.

Actually the Chinese Writing Stone itself is a porphyry. A stone of mixed sized crystals. The dark area on those shown is basalt and the white is most likely plagioclase, a type of feldspar. The specimens shown are of high quality with well defined white crystals in a dark matrix, and exceptional polish.

I love cabochons because they can display the wonderful variations and patterns of nature. I have several of the varieties you showed, some from JTV. Lapidary is a great way to learn about rocks too. While just about anyone can learn to cut rocks I find it takes talent and/or experience to learn to read rough rocks to get the best designs and patterns. Maybe a show on cutting cabochons? BTW, that unidentified one was fascinating because it looks like an interesting mix. Otherwise I have too many favorites to choose one. 😊

Rob fire agate is a favourite of mine as well, just amazing colours. Please can you tell what watch you are wearing? Very slim design. What can I say I love rocks and watches, lol.

ZULTANITE The color changing gemstone. I have 2 2.3 ct. Zultanite and Diamond earrings. I have read they are extremely rare and only come from 1 mine in Turkey. My zultanite earrings are etched with the word zultanite on them.

Just for clarifications sake, I was under the impression that the bright green mineral in the maw sit sit is the kosmochlor whilst the darker component is the jade.

The kosmochlor forms the black areas. Jadeite forms the green. However, clinchlore can also make up parts of the green.

According to the G.I.A., Garnet has many Species, but relatively few Varieties. Andradite is listed as a Species, not a Variety

Chinese writing stone is porphyritic Basalt with Feldspar phenocrysts. Porphyry is an igneous rock containing conspicuous crystals, called phenocrysts, surrounded by a matrix of finer-grained minerals or glass or both. Again, the black is porphyritic Basalt not simply porphyry.

Labradorescence and Play-of-Color are two distinct Phenomenons. Play-of-Color is only applied to Opal. If you got a Labradorite on the 20 Stone Final Exam and put Play-of-Color as its Phenomenon... you would fail the Exam

Pietersite and tiger’s eye both have crocidolite in them. The difference is in the structure. Tiger’s eye is mostly a consistent coloring and pattern, whereas pietersite is a mix of colors and varying minerals cemented together by quartz.

I love the gemstones....... but I was disappointed in mispronounced names and some inaccurate info. Most was good. I just hate to think of unsuspecting people thinking they "learned" something that was wrong. I much more appreciate where they said they were unfamiliar with the item and moved along. Very fun rocks & gems though!
