I king of wish I hadn’t come across this video. A few months ago we were looking through some of my grandmother’s old gemstones she’d collected over the years, and one of them was a galaxy opal that looks incredibly similar to the one in the video. At the time I didn’t know what it was or it’s value but it was my favorite so I asked my mother if I could have it and she said sure, I take it back to my room and place it on display on my shelf. Fast forward a few weeks I was showing one of my friends the opal by taking a photo and sending it to him, once I took the photo I accidentally dropped the opal on the floor. I pick it up and look at it and it has a small but visible gash in the center of the gem which sucked in the moment but hurts tremendously now. It was a good video though other than that

My fav was also the galexy opal bc when the young lady held it more at a 45 degree or so angle the opal showed the red turn to raspberry & the green turned to teal & at other times the green also turned to a mint color & the orange turned more salmon in color; i haven't seen those colors in an opal sence like 45/50 years ago when i was 8/9; your galexy opal is just beautiful! Maybe you should! There are great opportunities to go rock hounding and crystal hunting In COUNTLESS places across the USA and the world... I think you would be surprised at how many spots around you could yield your very own crystal or mineral and are always only a drive and a hike away! And the satisfaction of knowing that the piece of mineral you have in your collection was not bought but was found by yourself will always be more valuable to you...

Wow, I did love the solid Galaxy Opal and the large Tanzanite crystal. I was somewhat drawn to the Golden Tanzanite though, as not many people know this can be its natural colour until it’s heated. Thank you for sharing your quality knowledge. Rog from Wales U.K.

The Opal is fantastic. But I am a huge Tanzanite fan. So for me it’s Tanzanite as my favorites on the table. The ruff is nice but I love it cut and faceted and all sparkly and flashing royal purple with flashes of red.

2:45 My main issue with gem cutters is that they ruin pieces like this. Some of the largest diamonds in history were cut into multiple pieces, which is a shame. Why don’t they keep a beautiful piece in this raw form?

So glad I found this channel! Have loved Jtv since I was a kid. The smaller tanzanite chunk is my favorite. I am a December baby so, someday I will hopefully be able to afford a tanzanite piece. I have always wanted to be a jewelry designer and right now I work with my own beading company I run through etsy. Honestly, my favorite gems stones have always been opals. I can remember even as a young boy I was always intrigued by Opal play of colors, sizes, patterns, shapes etc. I’ve since become a journeyman diesel mechanic, and have been for the past 35 years. Last year while scrolling KZbin videos, I ran into video content from Justin of Black Opal Direct, and my infatuation with Opal was rekindled. I have plans to buy a cabbing machine and would love so much to be able to sit down in my little workshop and cut some gems of my own. I have bought some rough Opal (mostly potch) to practice with. And now I follow 4 others on KZbin hoping to glean as much information as I can about how to inspect, rub, cut and polish Opal. I have yet to find a trustworthy source of affordable, good rough that I can build upon to hopefully cut the next Rainbow Serpent or Galaxy gems lol. But… I have faith Thank you for sharing your material and knowledge with us, it was very much appreciated.

I'm not super rich, but I did get my mom a beautiful tanzanite ring since she was born in December. It's 18K white gold set with diamond accents and a .65 carat tanzanite. Its GIA color grade is vB 6/6, and its GIA clarity grade is VVS. I wish I could have afforded 1+ carats at the time, but it's still a beautiful stone nonetheless.

I adore opals. Luckily, I live in Australia. The unlucky part is not having enough funds to buy the ones I really want. Nevertheless, I treasure the few pieces I have. They are like galaxies with colours, bodytones and patterns. The patterns are endless from pinfire, broadflash, rolling, script aka Chinese writing, chaff pattern, sky mackerel, ribbon, moss, flagstone. I love all Australian opals and my engagement ring which is also an opal.

Kunzite is my personal favorite. It was the very first stone I bought from jtv. It is a 47 ct Portuguese cut . I also have 5 presidents collection tanzys and a plethora of everything else along with a total gemA lab bought in pieces from j t.v. and other dealers. Self thought, my husband and I found this to be a great hobby and have sold quite a few large gemstones. (Morganite and other beryls to local mom and pop jewelry stores that knew nothing about gemstones other than diamond and lab emerald and ruby until we came along. It's an enjoyable hobby albeit expensive.

Nice stones! Would nice to hear you talk about the harlequin pattern in opal as well as where else they are from in the world and why black opal is so rare because of the deep black potch on the back to help illuminate the colors. As well as the grading of opals in terms of brightness. That is a very nice stone though. It looks like a n4 with a brightness of 5 and you are certainly correct about the extreme rarity. But harlequin! So stunning. Take this sub though.

Given the choice to take anything from that table I would take the deep blue smaller tanzanite. It is one of my favorite gems and covers my favorite colors and is small enough to hold. I am just not impressed with opals at all and the larger one does not show the color as well without altering it which I would feel I could not do at the value of it.
