You don’t need to dismantle your XB, only you need to take out the engine mount! That’s all you need to have access to the water pump

Nice video. Hey I noticed you have a cold air intake, is it worth the money with fuel economy and extra Hp? Thanks
@slingbart7055 жыл бұрын
its the factory AEM system. no noticeable HP gains, buts never buy another air filter again, just clean it every year or so. brings in cooler air from behind the fog light. get almost 32mpg city w/ auto trans.

Having a problem, so did you remove the pully?
@vehiclebras780510 жыл бұрын
ok vids good but the hardest part of the job for me was getting the lower water pump nut off! its a bitch to get to. I think its harder than the bottom alternator bolt, FYI you don't have to take that bracket off if you jackup the motor a bit the lower alt bolt slips out also.

You were spot on. The Scion Xb is a POS to work on - particularly with a water pump r&r. Insufficient clearance to access bolts with fingers or wrenches. Insufficient clearance to extract a water pump without prying the engine to one side. In many respects, the car is a joke - not what one would normally expect from Toyota.

Hi, I'm having the same issue with my scion xb 04, my question is. Did you moved/remove the pully?

wow you did it the hard way and didnt show the actual pully removal fight scene where you have ZERO room for any socket wrench to get to them bolts. Put a jack under the oil pan. remove the 3 motor mount bolts(2 top bolts 1 screw under), lower the engine, access pulley and pump through wheel well with ease, replace. done. why remove the alternator?? now you gotta reprogram your radio.
@TheWilferch Жыл бұрын
Correction..... there are 3 top bolts on the passenger motor mount...PLUS....one more from underneath the car...look up from the pulley's and you will see it. PLus....if all you want to do is LOWER the engine....I THINK you only need to remove the two, 14mm head bolts on the passenger motor mount are CLOSEST to the engine....not the 3 or 4 bolts that attach the mount to the fender/chassis.

What are the tools needed? Do I need a pulley puller?
@slingbart7055 жыл бұрын
you probable sold the car by now, but No, just a 10mm socket or ratcheting wrench(gear wrench works good)

I've worked on a lot of junk vehicles in the past 25 years - having to pry an engine in its mounts to one side or another to get enough clearance to remove a waterpump is a first - something you'd expect from a kit car or old British turd like MG. Pretty pathetic for a Toyota product. Having been a foreign car tech for over 25 years working on vehicles from the likes of crappy Range Rover and Jaguar up to first class designs from Volvo and Mercedes Benz I've seen it all. My recent experience with a Scion waterpump was totally unexpected. Scion may be fairly reliable but is utterly rinky dink in a lot of respects.
