In context, this is easier to understand: the Marshall Mathers LP (2000) is considered by most people, Eminem included, as his greatest work. (It had Stan.) It is 11 times platinum. Then in 2013, he made the Marshall Mathers LP 2 - and this was its intro song. He had to justify calling the album that, and this is part of it - so yes, it is symbolic, like the 4th verse says. Eminem usually has a clear message, if you listen very closely several times - sometimes he has multiple messages, but then all of them are intentional. :) And yeah, listeninf to him needs your full attention, like watching a movie. Even without videos, his albums feel like full stories. Or like reading a collection of short stories. It's not background music. This video was fanmade, btw, this song does not have an official one. I recommend The Way I Am.

Hey, guys. I think you should react to Darkness by Eminem. It's a ver emotional, nice and slow song, so no fast rapping, but everything is clear and understandable so his skill to tell a story is on full display here - one song, one lyric, but he's actually telling two completely different stories at the same time. Of course, it's also highly interpretative and the ultimate message is highly relevant nowadays in the US (and controversial). If you do decide to the check the song out, make sure to watch the official music video since the video does accentuate some of the wizardry Em does with the words.
