A lot of Japanese kids start on piano at 3-4 yrs old and then in grade school music classes are mandatory, then in middle and high school they have what are called Kahon clubs, where they can learn how to put bands etc. together, so most of them are playing at garage band level or better by the age of 15 or so, the black haired guitarist here, played piano till high school, and was considered a concert level classical pianist, then picked up a guitar and decided to play strings, she also writes most of their music and is a gear nerd

Great reaction. Yes, LOVEBITES are the real deal. And you really haven't seen anything yet. Asami, the vocalist, does sing in English but she has an accent which makes it sometimes hard to follow the lyrics, especially on their faster songs. But she has an amazing voice. The guitar duo of Midori and Miyako are truly phenomenal. I've never seen nor heard anything else like them. You mentioned the stars on the drum kit. They are old cymbals that the drummer Haruna has cut up and mounted on stands. She occasionally spins them before or during a song just to add some visual flair. Keep checking out LOVEBITES. It's been a minute since I've seen a first time reaction to LOVEBITES with "Break the Wall" as the song. Thanks for this rare event, having this song be your LOVEBITES introduction. I've been listening to metal since 1971, and I am a thrash head first and foremost. The late 70's to early 90's were to me the best era of music, and an era of metal I don't think will ever be repeated. Exodus is my favroite thrash band, and then right behind them are the likes of Slayer, Testament, Metallica, Megadeth, not Anthrax 🤣, Sepultura, Kreator, and so many more. This performance you just reacted to is my all-time favorite live recorded thrash song. It's everything and more. LOVEBITES blend Power, Speed, Thrash, Heavy, and other elements of metal, sprinkle in non-metal elements like classical, and have created LOVEBITES metal. They never sound like they are copying a band, yet you hear so many bands in their music, sometimes 4 or more in one song. This is a collection of virtuosos where not one member carries the band. LOVEBITES is now my favorite band ever, and the black haired guitarist stage left (viewed right), Miyako, is my favorite musician ever. To to add one more all-time favorite, is "Judgement Day", my now all-time favorite song. So far the band has already released 4 full length studio albums, 4 EPs, a best of compilation and a bunch of live albums, available on CD/DVD/Blu-ray. In 2018 LOVEBITES won the Metal Hammer UK Golden Gods Award for best new band. LOVEBITES have toured in Europe back in 2018/2019 and also in 2024. This also includes appearances at most European major metal festivals such as Wacken, Download, Bloodstock, Graspop, Resurrection Fest and Hellfest. They also played their first US shows last year in September. In 2021 the band went into a hiatus, because founder and bassist Miho quit the band for personal reasons. During the break also two babies were born. LOVEBITES came back in October 2022 with new bassist Fami and a few months later with new album „Judgement Day“. Their newest release is „LOVEBITES EP II“ with 5 amazing new songs. Lovebites are a Japanese heavy metal band, formed in 2016 by Miho, Bass, who was previously in the band DESTROSE that broke up in 2015. They take much of their influence from the 1970's and 80's British and European bands such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Miho left the band in 2021 for personal reasons and is currently pursuing new projects. Any Lovebites video recorded in 2021 or earlier, the bassist will be Miho (ESP Bass), any from 2022 or later, it is Fami (Bacchus Bass, usually a 5 string) The present members are, Asami, Vocals and Piano. She trained in Ballet Dancing and before Lovebites was a R&B singer. She writes many of the lyrics and sings in English, not easy for a native Japanese speaker. Midori, (Midori Tatematsu) ESP Guitars. The blond 'Amazon Warrior'. Before Lovebites a member of all female band GEKIJO METALICCHE. Miyako, ( Watanabe Miyako, also has used the name Mi Ya) Dean and Gibson Guitars, Piano and Keyboards. The 'serious' one with long black hair. Before Lovebites a member of the bands DROP OF JOKER, 21g and SONIC LOVER RECKLESS. She is a classically trained pianist who writes much of the music, often incorporating classical themes into her compositions. She has a 3 part series on her YT channel 'MIYAKO OFFICIAL' about the process she uses to compose new music in her home studio. She has an EP of some classic heavy metal songs transcribed and played on piano as though they are classical works. It would be accurate to think of her as a classical pianist who also plays guitar in a heavy metal band. A remarkable young woman. Both Guitarists play lead, seamlessly swapping lead and rhythm as required. They play wonderful harmonised dual solos. Fami, Bacchus Bass. Recruited as replacement for Miho in late 2022 when she was 20 years old and still at university. She has her own YT channel that has nearly 700,000 subs. Check out her 'Alien Alien' Slap Bass cover from when she was in her teens. Haruna, Drums. The 'Little BIG Engine'. a tiny lady, 1.45 meters tall, who is the power house that drives the band. Before Lovebites she had been in Destrose, Miho's former band, and was the first to join her in the new band. She plays powerfully, fast and precisely throughout concerts that can be up to near 2 hours long. She uses a double kick bass pedal at unbelievable speed. All members of the band can play piano/keyboards. They were the first all female Japanese band to play at the Wacken festival, Germany in 2018, also playing at the Bloodstock festival in the UK and winning the UK Metal Hammer Golden Gods award for best new band. In 2019 they toured the UK with Dragon Force and opened for Arch Enemy in China. Following Miho's departure in 2021 they went on hiatus, two members, Asami and Miyako getting married and having babies. Their 'comeback' concert, the first with Fami on Bass, was in March 2023. Liked and subbed, great reaction! It's always great to see a first time reaction when Lovebites appears to the screen, eight out of ten reactors are in a sort of disbelief what they just watched. You've found one of the best metalbands of today and like you've noticed, this is just another day at the office for Lovebites. All members are topnotch and they play all kinds of metal; mostly powermetal but also thrash and some powerballads, bands like Judas Priest, Iron maiden, metallica and Slayer are strong influences. For your information ASAMI sing in English with a Japonese accent. All the members of LOVEBITES know to play piano. Only singer learn it as adult. The other 5 fives members learn piano around 4 years old. I know, I talk about 6 ladies. Because the bassist MIHO (who found the band with the drummer)on this MV is no longer a member of LOVEBITES she left for personal reasons in mid 2021. The new bassist FAMI had the same standard musical education. They've in hiatus during the mid 2021-end of 2022. ( 2 babies are born during the hiatus, an album was recorded and a bassist was recruited) The line-up since end of 2022. HARUNA on drums ASAMI on vocal & piano ( main lyricst) FAMI on bass & backing vocals. MIDORI ( blond)on lead /rhythm Guitar, Spanish Guitar and backing vocals. MIYAKO (dark hair) on lead Guitar/rhythm Guitar, Spanish Guitar, Piano, Keyboard, Keytar ( she's the main composer and sounds ingeneers during the tour world 2024). I think many of the Wolfpack are older than regular metal fans. These women take the best of the 80s and add a modern twist which hits us old guys (58) in our metal hearts. We recognize it without it being a repeat. You can clearly hear Maiden, Judas Priest, early Metallica, Slayer, Testament in their music - all good role models to have, I'd say, but they add their own insane musicality and flair to it and make it sound new. Simply amazing! All their songs are in English but it's sometimes hard to hear since Asami has an accent. Some songs have subtitles, though.

Japanese metal is on an incredible roll, especially the women, who are kicking ass on an epic scale. Another great band you should check out is Bridear. Founded in 2011, they were in the second wave of all-female heavy-metal bands. They have the classic twin-lead attack and technical rhythm section. They have gone through some changes but have always kept their hard, heavy, technical sound. Their tiny bassist even does death growls! They released their new album “Born Again” on June 28 and it’s a banger. BURRN is calling it a masterpiece. Metal Hammer compares them to Lovebites. You haven't seen anything yet. The vocalist doesn’t even get to show her full range here. Vocally, this is nothing for her... What you just heard and saw weren’t two guitarists. That was a concert pianist playing the guitar alongside a guitarist. And as a song, this barely scratches the surface of what the band is capable of. It’s not bad-Lovebites doesn’t do bad or filler songs-it’s just that they have far superior tracks when it comes to Thrash Metal and Power Metal. And of course, they have their own 'Stairway to Heaven,' an absolute masterpiece.

They are phenomenal. Most talented metal band to come along in decades. Their 2 guitarists (Midori & Miyako) are the solo & harmonizing queens. So much more to see. They will just get more impressive. As a whole, the Japanese metal/rock scene is the best in the world IMO....dominated by the all-female bands. Lovebites, Band-Maid, Nemophila, Hanabie + many otherss are all worth a deep dive. It's a deep talent pool.

The craziest thing is that you have only seen 2 of the Japanese female bands; band-maid and lovebites, and there are more. The thing about all these Japanese female bands is that they all seem to have their own flavor that you can pick according to your mood. After these two, the natural next step is Nemophila, Hanabie, Trident, KOIAI. But there are also lesser known ones worth checking out; Whiskey Dust and one of my favorites when it comes to punk and they are called BO-PEEP (their cannel is "BO-PEEP - Topic"). As a 53 year old hard rocker, I've got my faith back when it comes to good music because of Japan. Happy rockin' 🤘
