I used to do that as a kid, too. In my 20s, I was prescribed a "new, powerful" antibiotic for an inner ear infection, that after taking 2 pills, made all the skin on my palms and soles of my feet to peel off. I could hardly walk or touch anything because it felt like my hands and feet were on fire. I described it to the doctor as when we put glue on our hands, then peeled it off! That antibiotic (Duracef) was over $100 (back in the 80s, no insurance). The doc just shrugged and prescribed a $4 prescription for Erythromycin. Of course, there was no refund for the unused Duracef. 😡

I remember once John Schneider was being interviewed on a tv show in the 80s, think it was Real People or maybe That's Incredible. Anyway, the host interviewing him obviously had NO clue what the show was about, because John was explaining how they went through so many General Lee's in each filming. At the end he says "Keep doing those General Lees." Wow, I just tried to look up that interview so I could try to help my memory of what show that was on, and found some articles about the FBI investigating John because he made some remarks about Biden. I don't remember anybody investigating Kathy Griffin when she made a model of Trump's severed head, but John says Biden should be hung if he committed treason, and they're throwing him to the wolves.

My best friend and I used to practice typing our "notes" to each other. Those notes were sometimes several pages long! I still have them in storage. It was different typing from your brain than typing someone else's words from paper but it was great practice. I only had an old, old Smith-Corona manual typewriter at home but we had the brand new "IBM Selectric" at school! 😂 I wish I still had that old manual typewriter ($$$), it came with it's own storage box that looked like a small suitcase. You flipped the latches and removed the entire top part, while the typewriter stayed on the bottom part of the box. I remember re-inking the ribbon, too, because a new ribbon was just too expensive!😮

Nope, can't just carry them out of a store or a house without detection. They were also great furniture for displaying lamps, floral arrangements, holiday decorations (or setting your baby brother on so he couldn't get down) Also, the heavy TV required an antenna. There actually WAS a Nintendo game with memory. Legend of Zelda could save games. After my brother and I spent our entire winter break to nearly clear the whole game, in a moment of frustration, he kicked it and it lost all the memory. We both freaked out and my mom returned the whole Nintendo which freaked us out even more. 12 years later my brother and I were able to track down a console and the game and we finally cleared it providing some much needed closure. There was also the time I cleared Karateka and bolted out the sliding patio door to announce it, not realizing the screen door was closed.

Of course there are over 100 islands/atolls in the chain, so it could be one of them. But the show says it's an uncharted island, which by that point all the islands are charted. Gargamel was the evil wizard always after the Smurfs. Add to the childhood trauma pack Bambi and especially Ol' Yeller. Even though they were from a previous generation, they were still showing them to us as kids in the 80's. Maybe they weren't wrong.

Disney hated his parents; especially his mom. That's why parents were killed, whipped and trampled (Dumbo's mom) shot (Bambi's mom), or died in some way (snow white, Cinderella, belle, jasmine etc). The excuse was made that things happen and are part of life, but Disney wasn't a nice person either. He certainly had his own issues.

@@AkornzStashtoday's generation is because of how they were raised...by us gen xers. As kids, we were told to get out of the house and not to come home until the street lights came on. We were left home alone from kindergarten on up, because school got out and parents worked. We were left in the car while mom did grocery shopping. These conditions are considered neglect today. So we had to change our parenting style to fit into what society deemed ok. Besides, most of these scenarios actually led to deaths/injuries of children and enough incidents were being reported forcing the new laws to happen. I would never leave my kid alone in a car, but my mom did that to us a lot. We did get dehydrated and too hot or cold depending on the weather. Men approached us and we had to lean on the horn. Did these things happen to all kids, maybe not, but it was happening. Parents went from ignoring their kids to over protecting them and that's the real problem.
@AkornzStash
@AkornzStash 9 ай бұрын
@@Ninjanimegamerthose are true points. But most of todays generation isn't just from being "protective". Its what they were taught... and what they weren't taught.
@Ninjanimegamer
@Ninjanimegamer 9 ай бұрын
@@AkornzStash I will agree. I didn't mention that being overprotective also includes the fear of having your kids know too much, see too much, do or say something that can hurt the child. Many parents in gen x, were scared their kids would not be happy. As our parents neglected us, some of us had developed childhood trauma, depression and anxiety. Many gen xers don't want to give their kids mental health issues. They don't realize that by being overprotective only adds to mental health issues. Like you're seeing, kids today don't know squat, they can't survive, have no life skills and can't bounce back when something goes wrong. They are pasty weak house creatures not wanting to go anywhere and hiding behind screens. Because kids are so overprotected they have not been exposed to different situations and can't fend for themselves; when parents are doing it for them. It's all a part of trying to keep them safe from the big bad world we were forced to face alone. Mind you, as much as I have told my kid to get out, go play; it's a fight and a struggle. I am sure it's because there is no one around. Everyone else is inside and no one is watching the kids. The outdoors has become a scary place. If more kids got out I'm sure that would help. I force my kid out anyway. She had to get exercise and fresh air. I'm criticized for doing so. I hear from other parents, "aren't you afraid someone will take her, she'll get hit by a car, she could fall and break something....". There is peer pressure and it's hard for some to hear it. It makes others feel like they're bad parents. My kid is now a teenager and I'm sure she can fend for herself.
