Where rock singers go, Steve Perry is the GOAT. No auto tune, no pitch correction, no special effects...just Steve and his flawless vocals...in the studio and even better live/

Love seeing the younger generations discover the music of my youth. I saw this very Frontiers Tour in 1983 in my hometown. They did 3 back2back sold out shows with Bryan Adams opening the shows. I was a young 15 year old lucky enough to snag a ticket and a ride there with my mom and older brother. Listening to this very song sung live was amazing. I will never forget being there and in that audience listening to my favorite band Journey. It’s been 41 years since that summer but it seems like yesterday. Thank you for your genuine reaction. Mother Father Live in Houston 1981 should be your next reaction. Journey On.

Their keyboardist, Jonathan Caine, wrote this and other songs for Journey. He was the Keyboardist previously for The Babys and joined Journey after The Babys split. Jonathan was a huge asset for Journey!

Be sure to see Journey live in Houston Escape Tour, one of the best concerts ever. So many good songs: Mother Father, Open Arms, Lovin Touchin Squeezing and more. The band in this lineup was incredible. Steve Perry with his voice and charisma was the band for me, which I don't want to devalue the others because everyone did a fantastic job.

You youngsters have NO IDEA what generation I was raised in! (from the 40's on) THE BEST MUSIC EVER WRITTEN in the history of the US! Your generation is VOID of REAL understanding of what real music is! If? you want to know, on KZbin start with the early 50' and work all the way through to 2000, ALL THE MUSIC IS ON KZbin!!!

You need to hear, "Mother, Father" by Journey Live...and when they sang "Faithfully: it sounded better live than in the recording! Steve Perry is called, "The Voice" for a reason, Also, have you listened to "Faithfully Live" Steve actually said though, that "Mother Father was his hardest song to sing it was the hardest song to sing voice wise and emotionally for him.. Neal Schon, Steve Perry, and Jonathzn Cain; wrote "Mother, Father" but it is about Neal Schon's real life growing up. It is a bittersweet song, but it also wants you to see your family because Neal Schon was trying to actually restore his mom and dad to the family they once had. I have seen Journey live twice with Steve Perry the lead singer at McNichols Arena in Denver in 1982 and 1983. If you think they are messing around with the music, no, that is pure talent. You sound like you are truly interested in music so I would suggest you listen to Steelheart with Mili singing, "I'll Never Let You Go", I am way older than you, but I have many generations of music because my family has had 3 bands and now the next generation of my nieces, nephews, and cousins are starting bands, My brothers are still making rock music and cutting digital and CDs for us old timers. Their music is all their own, they wrote it and even one of our cousins that is younger than my brothers but plays the drums and did from 15 year old on. My brothers are 65 and 64! The original band is all the same they started out with except they change out the bassist when he has trouble with his health. They play music like the 1980's but in 2020's! They are about to put another single out, but already have 2 full what we would call albums, a single, and now the newest single will be coming out very soon. When you hear the honesty in rock and it is about love or something that has happened, it helps the soul. I listen to Tom Macdonald, but don't like when he curses, but he is REAL as it comes in this day and age. There are not a lot of songs these days that really have the talent like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Elvis, and basically anything from the 1920s to the 1990's. Laugh if you want, but young hair bands need to make a comeback, they had hair like a lion's mane and they actually had voices that wasn't messed with auto-tune like today and were awesome or beautiful. But the guys who played rock had long hair but most also were built and would either go barechested or open shirts to the navel. That is why I mention Steelheart!

Yes a must listen Steelheart

What’s up GEN-Z KID, I would love it if you could react to a Journey song called “ Mother, Father which is on the “Escape” album. But their live performance from their 1981 concert from Houston, TX is actually better that the studio version. I could never understand why this song was never released as a hit single. It’s exactly what you’re looking for. It starts off very simple and keeps building through the 3 verses, musically and vocally and ends with a great Steve Perry falsetto. Many reactors on KZbin have reacted to this song and they are all flabbergasted by it. Great lyrical content; strong message.

Songs…in particular THIS song…have a natural build to them. When you stop the song after every phrase to make a comment, you lose the appreciation for that build. It would have been better for you to save your comments til the end.
