Gene Kelly was one of the most important artists of the 20th Century. He changed not only how dance was filmed (making the camera PART of dance and choreography), but cultural perception.. The entire contemporary questioning of what is "allowed" or "not allowed" according to one's gender started with this man and his determination to break down those prejudices. Kelly is probably the single most influential dancer of all time in the number of dancers he has inspired. He worked consciously to create relevancy in his work. And because he succeeded in doing that his work is Timeless because it is Always Relevant.

Gene Kelly was a terrific dancer! He will glide when he dances! In my opinion he was the best dancer and tapdancer of all time. Plus a very handsome man. Thanks for posting this video.
@kugelweg6 жыл бұрын
I thought he was handsome too! The funny thing is, he wasn't considered attractive enough to be a leading man in Hollywood when he first started acting. Weird, right?!
@Cinder_3116 жыл бұрын
Lady T I think Fred Astaire was the best but Gene a close 2nd imo

@@kugelweg He was a leading man in every move he ever made-Sex Symbol as well as a great artist.
@kugelweg5 жыл бұрын
Actually no he wasn't. He was not considered attractive at first, like many other performers in his day.
@susanlloyd73955 жыл бұрын
@@kugelweg He's the leading man who gets the girl in his first movie, "For Me and My Gal." When he played Pal Joey on Broadway his character's nickname was Beauty, so I disagree respectfully.

Back in the day my father very much enjoyed the performers of that era, my dad is now gone as are most of these actors, now we are stuck with, the likes of justin B, Nikki M, the Kardashians etc, etc. Now I really have a better understanding of the entertainers of a bygone era....

He looked great in this interview. Gene Kelly will always be my favourite OH actor and for me he is (was) the best dancer of all time. Singin' in the Rain will remain the greatest musical of all time no other musical will ever come close to this masterpiece. Thank you Gene for bringing so much joy to our lives with your wonderful movies. Its been 27 years since you left us, but we will never forget you. A true class act in Hollywood history he changed the landscape of musical movies forever.

To Mark Govanelli: Your ignorance is a tragic. Obnoxious remarks that are ridiculous and absolutely incorrect. Both Gene and Fred were wonderful dancers! But their styles were so different. They cannot be compared. I suggest you watch Mr. Kelly's films again. You must have been asleep the first time!!

And?! Where or to whom somebody is or was born doesn't matter, dude, it's neither an achievement nor somebody's fault! It's the 21st century. When will you racists ever get over people's lineages?

@@Claude-Eckel - He was of Irish & German descent..Lineage is important. Genealogy is what helps people learn of their history and where they come from. It's one of the biggest part of who we are. Why is that racist?

Gene when he dances he spins, he twirls, he leaps, he flies. Then while he dances he choreographers his stories. He will always be the second because Fred Astaire is THE MASTER! FRED ASTAIRE IS ALWAYS THE FIRST. ASTAIRE IS THE GREATEST DANCER EVER! My name is Cynthia Taylor and I know who are the best! Best dancer; Fred Astaire, Best Actor; Lawrence Olivier, Best Actress; Kathleen Hepburn, Best Director; that's tough because there is John Ford, Billy Wilder, Frank Capra, George Stevens, George Cukor, Howard Hawks, Vincent Millinelli. Best Movie is Casablanca but I love Saratoga Trunk with Gary Cooper, Ingrid Bergman, Flores Robson. Saratoga has tempo, staged acting, set designs and Gary Cooper's humor.

People who are commemorated after their death did something that stood out. The rest of us will be remembered for nothing because we never did anything impactful. We are but useless beings on earth who take oxygen from those who make some type of change. The realization of this makes people depressed and the people who arent depressed are oblivious and their brain stores that realization away for their sake so how will we ever cure depression? We think pills and therapy helps but no. Only someone who is in depression can save themself.
