Good old Gene, best thing about Philly in the 60s, him and Dick Allen.

Mauch tackled Jerry Grote so he couldn't catch a goul pop up in front of The Phils dugout.

Thank God the video stopped there and didn't talk about 1986, being one strike away from the WS.....the Donnie Moore situation. My poor heart....

I cover that in other videos.

He was no managerial genius. All Phillie fans know it was his mismanagement of Bunning and Short that lost the 64 pennant. He also mishandled Dick Allen with the Frank Thoma situation and Allen's accident pushing his car. Duck Allen was the best thing about the Phillies, but the team and city were not ready for a smart, supremely talented black man in 1964. Dick is my favorite Phillie of all time not because I saw him launch a shot over the Coke sign atop the left field bleachers at Connie Mack (and still rising) but because he appearance 120% despite all the hometown boobirds. It's a crime he's not in the HOF. Gene Mauch was a LOSER!!!

You are wrong. Dick Williams was right. The car/headlight thing was the night of a rainout and he went to a North Phiilly gin mill and messed with another cats lady and got his wrist slashed with a straight edged razor. Allen was his own worst enemy for the most part.
