Me and my sister were there!! OMG you can see us both. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw this!!! We went to see Gene at East Ham in London and was invited to go to The Speakeasy Club in Soho London the next afternoon. All in the audience were invited. It was so very 60`s and so innocent. No alcohol, and great fun. Always wondered if there was a recording of this and was amazed to find it yesterday.

I am the girl with the long blonde hair and spotted dress and my sister is the girl with the green blouse with a frill front!!! We nearly fainted when I discovered this film!! As I have said before it was so innocent. No alcohol. It was in the afternoon. My sister played hookey from school and I signed off sick at work. lol

Congratulations, you and sis were very lucky to be a part of the greatest era of music and see pitney at his peak. I was only 7 years old at the time but remember the song on the radio that summer.

OMG !!! I've never seen this clip and I'm a HUGE Gene Pitney fan for over 50 yrs. Gene looked like he was having a blast. So this was in London? Gene was so different when he performed in Europe compared to America. His singing was the same but his countenance was different if that makes any sense. It's like he let loose and was really enjoying himself, rather than being so serious as he always seemed when doing American TV shows. He's my favorite male solo artist of all time. This is a real GEM thanks so much :o)

Hi Toni - me again! When I come across one of these gems and see that you too have found them I have to smile. To see your comments makes me feel that all is right with the world. I know exactly what you mean when you talk about Gene's countenance. Have you seen Gene singing "Hold On" live, posted by denchYS and "She Lets Her Hair Down (Early in the Morning)" 1969 posted by Historic Films Stock Footage Archive? Thank you for mentioning "Lonely Drifter" in one of our previous conversations. Love this song and had never heard it.
@maxinegray15876 жыл бұрын
Hi Toni - me again!! For the first time I have listened to "Don't Rob Another Man's Castle" by Gene Pitney and George Jones. Can't stop playing this song. Just love the tone of Gene's voice. Even if you are not a huge country fan I think you will love this one. I can't stop playing it! "Baby Ain't That Fine" sung by Gene and Melba Montgomery isn't too bad either.
@Tonithenightowl6 жыл бұрын
Maxine !!!! Hiya I wrote both down and will look them up. I've been finding more performance clips of Gene and its great to see him instead of just hearing him. It's not that I don't like country music... it's just I'm really picky about it lol However I'd listen to Gene sing the phone book ... It's so nice to hear from you, we Pitney fans like to share his music so I thank you.:o) Toni

Interesting that you should say that Gene was more relaxed in the UK. I knew him as a very relaxed guy when he came to stay at the hotel where i worked - a great practical joker! He enjoyed meeting his fans and i found him to be an absolutely lovely guy. So sad we lost him all too soon.
@Tonithenightowl4 жыл бұрын
@@Phaedrax2 I don't know if American audiences were tougher to please or what but Gene was underrated here despite his many hits. I think it was bc females could relate to his songs but men... not so much. I didn't know any guy who had a Gene Pitney album or would admit to it if he did. I don't think the UK was that uptight so he appealed to a mixed audience with no problem. So professionally it was better. As far as being a nice guy, I think that was just Gene. I never heard any successful artist/ backup singer, musician or technician he worked with say anything bad about him. Never heard a fan say anything bad, either. When he did his remake of "Something's Gotten Hold of my Heart" with Marc Almond it was banned here in the States. I never even heard it or saw the video till I got a computer in 2000. Bc Marc was openly gay apparently radio stations in the USA thought it too controversial. They didn't think it controversial at all when Gene recorded it as a solo artist in 1966. So if Gene felt more comfortable overseas... we can surely understand why. :o)

best example of a healthy belting (with some raspy false vocal chords- effect) as high TENOR voice... high larynx, face as resonator, but no chest voice heard, although it supports the voice.. deep(er) voices have more heard chest voice, when belting
