This was my dad's favorite Gene Watson song. Gene Watson was the only country singer that could ever make my dad cry. I can still remember me being around 9 yrs old in 1978 when we lived in Gordon Alabama...about 20 miles south of Dothan. Me & my dad would get out on a Saturday morning & just ride on old Houston Co back road in an old white 1972 Chevy C/10 pickup truck, 3spd on the column, no a/c, both windows rolled down, no p/s, 8-track player & a Gene Watson Greatest Hits playing in that old 8-track player. I STILL CAN HEAR MY DAD SAYING "COUNTRY MUSIC SINGERS JUST DON'T GET ANY BETTER THAN GENE WATSON"...& MY DAD WAS RIGHT...LOOKING BACK...MY DAD WAS RIGHT ABOUT A LOT OF THINGS!!! Thank you Gene for the memories I have of me & my dad listening to all your GREAT GREAT SONGS!!! Much love from Mobile Alabama.

I still wish they wrote songs like this yes I wish they wrote songs like the country music western music country it's not like what it was when I was first growing up listening to Ray Price listening to Merle Haggard listening to Hanks it wasn't like it was when I was growing up and the way the people get on stage now there's no more suit and tie it's ragged out pants holes and shirt or their pants are falling down The Statler Brothers look at how they dressed they dress so nicely look at Merle Haggard he dressed so nicely look at Gene Watson he dresses so nicely look at all her country singers back then 40 50/60 years ago everybody dressed so nicely but nowadays it's just rockabilly and holes and pants and shirts and who gives a damn

When I was in over the road driver I was an over the road driver for 44 years and I didn't retire until 2022 November 28th to be exact when I first started driving we didn't have XM serious radio but the last I'm wanting to say 25 maybe 28 years XM radio or it was XM radio but now it's XM serious radio 25 years ago I had an XM radio and it pooped out on me so I never bought one again because I spent a lot of money on that thing make a long story short this is the only way I get to hear my heroes like Jane Watson Ray Stevens The sons of pioneers I miss all my heroes Roy Acuff George Jones Tammy wynette Loretta Lynn I miss all my heroes but unfortunately they're gone and people ask me why do you like listening to dead people now some of us some of them are still alive and I like listening to the ones that have passed because it makes me feel good that their songs are still alive they're still out there but you don't have enough there's not enough respect into the old country old country western now it's you don't have the respect some some just don't have the respect to what country used to be country western used to be but we are very fortunate that their songs are still out there on either CD or listening to it like I do here on my cell phone which is the only way I could listen to it because I can't afford to serious XM radio on my pickup otherwise I'd I'd buy one but you know I'll tell you something anybody that does not drive or has not communicated with the driver that's where serious XM is making all their money because it's being the the subscriptions to Sirius XM is being sold to the truck companies and they're making a killing to someone like you and Mike you and I we don't get that discount the truck companies got the discount because it's a fleet discount but we don't get it but anyway I hope everybody has a good day here it is August 5th and help everybody takes care takes some easy August 5th 2024
