Thanks a million. Im a Puerto Rican descent, My grand parents came to NYC from Puerto Rico, but I remember they mentioned that their grand parents where from the Canary Islands, and Vasco. I did not have any proof thru records, but I could see how my family looked like they came from Southern Spain. I will use this resource to help me connect the dots.

Puerto Rico wasn't a colony of Spain. Puerto Rico was a Autonomous community of Spain "province" provincia autonóma de ultramar de España before USA invaded Puerto Rico in 1898. What we have right now is a FULL 100% USA COLONY es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carta_Autonómica_de_Puerto_Rico_(1897)

Thank you so much! I did my DNA on 23 and Me a few years ago and was so confused by my results that were ever changing. I plan to do it again on another provider to see what I get. I’ve been on your site as well as Ancestry.con and have hit some dead ends. I’m trying to go as way back on both mom and dad’s side and see when their families immigrated to PR and where they came from. I love doing the research and learn more about my family history and have it in a organized book for my kids to have for future generations.

Todos los Puertorriqueños son descendiente de Españoles. Si tienes apellido Español o Portugues entonces tienes sangre iberica "ADN"..

Um, Puerto Rico has no provinces. I wonder whether you may be confusing it with districts.

Puerto Rico wasn't discovered, the Tainos were already there. Also, it is colonized by the U.S, not a territory.

I beg to differ Spain freed the Island 48 hours before the war ended and Puerto Rico has a seat on the Spanish parliament. It is the only former colony to have this distinction.

Puerto Rico has been a “melting pot” centuries before the USA ever existed. Imagine going back ten generations or even twenty. Doing the numbers can be an excellent challenge; so your surname is only a “dot” considering the hundreds of surnames that have contributed to your existence. There is very root in your last name and very misguiding! Even DNA is too basic for the present, but at least it is challenging and entertaining.
