Very informative and very helpful. Thank you for the book suggestion too because I'm always trying to find good books as I find them the most helpful and to have surprisingly good amounts of referral knowledge. And some you can't find anywhere else. I love videos cause I can't stop watching and learning about orchids. It's never enough! Haha. But this is the first I've looked into Dendrobiums and this is extremely helpful. Thanks!

I have killed a Den. unicum. Not easy to grow. I believe it needs very little water from November till March and fairly high light. Good luck ! I hope you will be more successful than me. It is a gorgeous flower! Yeah Ctsm. Tommy Bednar is spectacular and SVO does sell amazing orchids! Catasetums are wonderful plants Merry Christmas!

Just love your channel. Particularly this video, It's really informative and includes lots of basic information about dendro. I have the aggregatum for 3+ plus years and haven’t seen any blooms 🥹
@orchidhouse Жыл бұрын
❤❤ Regarding aggregatum (now called lindleyi): do you give it 3 or more months of rest? Also, where do you live? Do you have a drop of temperatures at night over the winter or are you in the tropics? If your nights are warm year-round, you may not be able to make it bloom????

Excellent video - very helpful. Would you do a video walking us around your growing areas and telling us how & why you’ve organized it as you have, please. It looks so fantastic but each time we only get to see small sections as background. I’d love to see it all please. Maybe will give your viewers some ideas they might borrow from you about setting up & mainaging their own collections. 😍

There is a video on how I display my mounted orchids which shows a lot of my collection although I keep on improving my area constantly and it has changed quite a bit since. Also, I move plants around during the year based on sun exposure, needs for dormancy (all Catasetums) etc.... So it is a bit difficult to explain all that. This is the video I am referring to. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2fVeZV-ZrlrZ7M

Very reassuring, thank you..😊 My very first orchid was a dendrobium and I've been growing them just by intuition and observation with very little time for research up till now. It's good to know I've not been a complete idiot with them..😄 I haven't killed any so far and apart from blooming issues (which I'm working on) they seem to be doing ok

It means you have great observation skills! Close Observation of your orchids is the number ONE reason for success!
The name is Dendrobium Little Green Apples (Den. Green Elf x Den. convolutum)

Great vid. After research, I've rebloomed 3 of my den phals. They all have new growth but most older canes have dropped. My den aggeratiums are thriving and have taken colder weather without much incident. My den nobiles are thriving in the colder weather. I monitor the. That's what's happening with my dens in zone 8a. I tappered off with water as the weather cooled off and only sprinkle a bit of water on them @ present, if the canes look excessively shrivled. All of this has worked for me with my dens, thus far. Once the last cold snap passes in my zone, I'll start fertilizing then and see what happens with last years new cane growth. For some reason I seen the different groups of dens like I see clementis vines. Clementis are in 3 groups & each group has its own growth habits.

Your videos are always a pleasure to watch. I do have many dendrobiums in my collection. This year I did some research and have labeled those which need a winter rest. I read the culture information about temps, etc., but with climate change that we've been experiencing how reliable are those specs? (I've added a "mule-eared oncidium recently. Do you have one of those?} May you have a nice holiday with your family and friends.
@orchidhouse Жыл бұрын
Thank you Pat! Those spec sheets are just an indication. They don't need to be perfectly accurate to give you a good idea on how to care for the plant. Some of those plants have a huge geographical distribution and will encounter much more diverse conditions that the table lets you believe. I will add a mule-ear video soon. I am expecting blooms on a mule ear. They are tricky to grow as they rot quickly. You MUST let them dry out between each watering. I have started using tree fern fiber on them, so far with outstanding results. Try it. Enjoy your Holidays too :))

How to treat the black spots in dendrobium
@orchidhouse4 ай бұрын
Excellent question! I don't have an answer. I have a few dendrobiums with black spots on the canes and it seems that when I reduce watering, new canes have less or none, but I have not yet been able to treat existing black spots. The Dendrobiums with black spots do not seem to be affected: blooming or growth are the same

Hello olivier do you no can you add dry eggshells and charcoal to tree fern fiber thank you
@orchidhouse Жыл бұрын
I do not believe that to be necessary. Tree fern fiber has draining quality that are exceptional. Charcoal might be useful for a plant that you fertilize heavily but from what i heard, tree fern fiber does not need anything added to the mix. You can always try though.

Thank you so much for this video I learn a lot😊, I have no success in growing summer blooming phal. I try just about everything less water more water, light. I just don’t know what I’m doing wrong maybe you can help,thanks
@orchidhouse Жыл бұрын
Summer blooming Phals bloom because of extra day length (light exposure) and heat. If they don't bloom, may be you live in area which is too cold or may be your plants are grown indoors and they don't get enough light??? Just a guess?? Water should have little to do with blooming.
