The initial checkout of a GE (General Electric) 3-speed window box fan model W12. This was obtained from the digitan Goodwill website and was one of those occasions where a real gem appeared. There were issues with the shipping but it all resolved. This is an exceptionally nice example of the 3-wing tan variant of this fan, even including the original box. Once balanced, lubricated, and revarnished, this should run quite nicely for decades to come.

My grandfather had that exact fan! I’ll forever regret not grabbing it when his estate was cleared out.

That's too bad, it definitely would have been worth saving.

Good Video Bro and good fins and buy can’t wait to see you service the fan and balanced the blades and your right that is excusable due to the technology not being there but today is unacceptable especially since they have the technology to correct the blade pouch and balancing I enjoyed the video bro

Very nice find! I've never had good luck with these myself to be honest but they do seem like good fans!!!

These can definitely start to get flaky as the bearings wear down, but this seems like a rare case where I got it before it has a lot of hours so I should be able to keep it good for a long time.

I have that same fan. Bought it from Goodwill as they were putting it out on the floor! I guessed it being from 1964 or 1965. Hit the nail on the head!

What a steel beast, you wouldn't be out of line taking the blades to a wheel alignment shop and ask them if they have any creative ideas on how you might go about balancing them.

The blades can be balanced relatively easily with weights in the hub or lead tape, the difficult part is determining where the weight needs to go.

great video, love the box! can't believe it made it. Hope you'll do an in depth video on balancing the blades. I have one blue one that I sweat the rotor is out of balance. the motor shakes on spin down without the blades on. crazy. good luck balancing the rotor!

I don't think there would be much hope in balancing the rotor itself, but as long as you put the blade back on the shaft in the same orientation every time, you should be able to balance the blade in such a way that compensates for the rotor. It will be some time before I get to this but I will definitely record it.

That would be a 1964-65 model since it’s after the aqua models but before the 5 wing version came about. That factory in Bridgeport was on Boston Avenue, it was a gigantic facility that spanned acres and no longer exists. It was demolished a few years ago.

Although they didn’t have the balancing tech, most fans of those days were relatively balanced. Emerson used special balancing weights on some of their fans, way before this fans time. It seems rare to find a single GE box fan with decent balance, which is off for a company that is “generally” pretty good quality.

Hi Jordan! Just wanted to remind you that this fan is better off as a paperweight! That Shaded Pole Motor Is So Inefficient For The Amount Of Air Moved. If you want a fan that works more quietly while saving you tons in energy bills, I suggest you try something from Comfort Zone! Even better, try 10 of them! Your inefficient vintage stuff will be in uour dumpster in no time!
