General Grabber AT3 on Volvo XC 90, 100.000KM review

This is my almost 100.000km review of the General Grabber AT3 tires.
I drove them on my 2005 model Volvo XC90 under all kinds of conditions.
Price per tire is about 100,-€
I am not sponsored by General Tire, this is my own opinion :-)

You’ve convinced me. I’m needing new tires and wasn’t really sure which tires to buy. I mainly drive on pavement or the beach, but also the occasional trip to the mountains in the winter. These tires look like they can handle it all. The rain issue…I”ll take you’re heading , no F1 driving in the rain😊

I have these on my diahatsu terios J2 brilliant tyres a lot off driving on farms, on the road they feel like road tyres brilliant in the snow again no complaints anywhere , was thinking about the maxxis 980 worm drive AT , which is a better mud tyre even better than the Goodrich KO2 , but if you want a all round tyres these are hard too beat I need a better mud tyre though may even go too MT tyres good hornets review 👍😉

Hello from Devon UK, thanks for your great video I really enjoyed watching it and it's great to see all the clips of the Volvo driving different terrain. I have a 2010 Tiguan escape and do similar adventure driving to you, so as you got a second set of these, it convinced me that I should try them as I wanted a good balance between tarmac and off road but with aggressive looks, they're expensive but as I don't drive many miles they should last a few years. Want to test them in snow. ; )

Hello and greetings to Devon, yeah, I had them as daily drivers for almost 100.000k and what should I say... they're great. They became more expensive lately... I payed less then 100€ each... now they're bout 130€ p. each and more... But a friend of mine had them on his Tiguan and is very pleased as well... by the way... I've got footage of that laying around still, Tiguan slaying dirt and mud... Soon to come 😁👍🏼

@@greyknight05 thanks for the reply, we just spent £145 X 4 for tyres and I bought different 16 inch Tiguan alloys for £330 the original 17 inch wheels were a bit scruffy and tyre choice was limited, the new alloys look better though, I'm going to post a before and after video of the Tiguan with these. To be honest I haven't tested the Tiguan out at all yet I'm still wishing for snow this winter. Best regards. Andy.

Hey, I know you uploaded this video a about a year ago. But I'm thinking about getting the xc90 2005, and these tires and it will fit perfectly. One question though, are your car lifted or did you just switch the suspension? I might wanna lift mine (10-15mm) and switch the suspension as they're stock from the previous owner and hasn't been switched for 20ish years.

Hey, yes my Volvo was lifted 30mm and within that i did a fresh suspension, that helped. I've got a complete video about that whole program. The tires will fit without that tough. Greetz, Bjørn

Moin, gerne. Also ich finde die schon echt griffig. Auf Eis ist das natürlich recht egal, aber Schnee und Matsch war kein Problem, fühlte sich sicher an und die Grabber haben genau das gemacht, was sie sollten. (Siehe das Wintersturm-Video) Nur bei Wasser auf der Straße, also starkem Regen, neigen sie etwas zum untersteuern/rutschen, dann etwas langsamer und alles ist 👌

Grundschul-Mathe unterrichte ich😅 Das ist auch fürs Leben wichtig. Ich könnte es wirklich ausrechnen, habe aber vergessen, die Durchmesser zu nehmen🤪

Hello mate and congratulations for your channel I love it. I am your big fan and I have a beautiful xc90 too ;) .. related to your tyres General Grabber AT3 please may you tell me how do they perform on heavy rain and haevy snow ? I mean I know you have to be aware of what they are for but have heard that AT tires (like BFgoodrich AT ect) are very very dangerous on rain (and snow/ice as well) as your vehicle can easily slide away on curved roads even if at very low speed. Would you tell me your expirience with your General Grabber AT3 as I would put they on my xc90? Last question are they lasting/endurable related to puncture (did you ever have a rubber pucnture on them ?) Many thanks and cheers from Italy.. ps sorry for my english

Hello and greetings to Italy, thank you very much. 😃 On heavy rain they do perform well when the speed is adequate. We had +10cm water on the road this year in sweden in a heavy thunderstorm, we had to reduce speed way under 20kmh but it run straight and pulled the trailer well. On wet curves they tend to understeer/slip when speed is

@@settantaallora6373 Hey Marcello, they are reinforced on the sidewall and i tried a lot, but they never gave up. I carry a spare and a repairkit, but never needed it on them for the last 100.000km. My pals Arne and Jørgen neither 🙂

Mit den General Reifen wirst du hoffentlich auch so lang Spaß haben. Ich hab sie jetzt knapp 70tkm drauf. Und die Lautstärke ist echt ok.

Hey Robert, nope, the tires are standard size and dimensions and would fit every XC90 with standard suspendion without lift🙂👍🏼

If I change my 225, 65, 17" high way tyres to 235, 65, 17" General Grabber. Would it make a huge difference in my fuel consumption?

Hi, I changed from 235/65/17 Continental tires to same dimension General Grabver AT3, and my range dropped from 680km to 620km, but I also added a roofrack. It depends on tire pressure also, but all in all not much, i guess😀

Endlich wieder ein neues Video! :) Aber wo zur Hölle kriegste nen AT3 für 100 Steine?! :O Wir tuckern Ende August auch Richtung Schweden, und da meine Sommerpellen die beim XC dabei waren sich auch dem Ende neigen, hab ich auch gesucht. Werd vermutlich den Toyo Open Country AT+ nehmen (da is das günstigste 110 + Montage was ich bisher gefunden hab). Fahre ja doch ein bisschen *hust* weniger Offroad wie Du, da sollte der Toyo reichen...

@@greyknight05 Hoffentlich seid Ihr wieder wohlbehalten daheim angekommen. Unser Trip war einfach bombastisch! In der Landmitte hoch bis Jokkmokk, kurz an der Ostküste wieder runter, einmal quer rüber in den Westen, und dann war die Zeit leider schon um :( Kurzer Überblick: - Die Toyo's haben sich hervorragend geschlagen! Egal ob Asphalt, Schotterpiste, oder Wald! - Schnittverbrauch 8,3l während der 5500km - trotz voller Beladung, vollem Dach, und den 18er AT-Reifen! - Motoröltemperatur im Schnitt bei 105°C - Getriebeöltemperatur im Schnitt bei 75°C - Regenerationsintervalle da oben > 1000km (mit dem angepassten, nicht deaktiviertem AGR) ...und ich konnt nicht anders und hab mir im Biltema größere Extaljus geshoppt... 😁 Und der Volvo hat bis daheim durchgehalten: 2 Tage später ist der Differenzdrucksensor vom Partikelfilter ausgestiegen 🤣 Und es funktioniert NUR das Teil von Volvo (2x Hella ohne Funktion!). Kostet bei Volvo ~110€. Wechsel ist in 20 Minuten erledigt - wenn man denn ein funktionierendes Teil hat. 🙄 ...wenn alles hinhaut geht's im November wieder hoch. Dann aber auf dem 17er Radsatz mit den Cooper Weathermaster WSC (haben sich letzten Winter auch hervorragend geschlagen!).

@@nordictraveller Moin, klingt nach einem gelungenen Urlaub 😁 Unsere 3 Wochen wurden dank Corona in Woche 1 verkürzt😟 Schöner Mist, also nix Nordkap. Dafür mit dem OffRoad Troll auf einsamen Bergen und Waldlichtungen gestanden, Schotterpisten erkundet (Verbrauch 9-11L mit 1,3to bergan im Schlepp) und zwar nur bis Gränsfors gekommen, dafür noch ein wenig nach Norwegen rüber, mehrere Elche gesehen (endlich mal) und ... da waren die 2 Wochen auch schon vorbei... 😅 Eventuell im Winter nochmal hoch, Polarlichter suchen 😀 Der Volvo hat nicht einmal gemuckt. Wo kannst du Öl- und Getriebeöl-Temp. ablesen? 🤔

The braking distance is not that bad, in fact they're really "grabbing" the ground🤣 even in the wet. But in curves they tend to understeer on wet roads and the car pushes straight ahead when intended to turn ... you have to slow down a bit in the wet, then they will work allright

@@greyknight05 Yes, from Sweden (stockholm). I think the General Grabber will be ok. Even looked at Goodricj TA KO2. The General tire is about 1850kr each + work shop costs. Changing the spare as well. Running 225/75/15 and going for 235/75/15 instead.

Ja, sie haben Winterreifen-Zulassung, aber sind sehr leise für AT reifen. Unter 120 kmh hlrt man sie nicht.
