I made a small cardboard model of a triplane, and this video helped me a lot. Very informative, and lot of different types of pics of triplanes. Thank u a lot 😀😃

The triplane only made sense when rotary engines were predominate. These engines did not run continuously but ran in pulses. They were also limited to around 80 hp. With such limited hp, you are limited to either speed or climbing ability for the same airframe weight. And the amount of extra speed that can be traded off for is quite modest. So one might as well go for climbing ability. The DVIIs were equipped with much more powerful inline, liquid-cooled engines, so they could both speed and climbing ability.

If slow, tight turning fights are what you expect to be in, a triplane will be of good service. However, if speed will win the day, forget the tripe. You want power and lots of it so you can choose when and where to fight. Strike from above, zoom and extend, climb, turn and strike again. This will get you home so you can tell your grandchildren how you won the war.

Considering the little wing between the wheels, Fokker would almost qualify as a quadriplane.

That's exactly what I want to know the difference between triplanes and biplanes flight characteristics and all thank you. Plus I learned something extra I never considered Wing depth

So all this time, I've been meme-ing about German triplanes when the British and Canadians made the concept popular in the first place? The things you learn decades after laughing at Snoopy comics...

There are actually four wings on these planes. The fourth being between the wheels which adds a significant amount of lift. Its actually a quadriplane,

You have to admire the pilots from W.W. 1. The rotary engines had no real throttle. Either it was on full power or it was off. The torque of the engine always tried to pull the plane to the right so they constantly had to compensate while flying. There was no real shock absorption in the landing gear so hard landings often resulted in broken ankles for the pilots. No one used parachutes in these machines. There simply wasn't enough room for them. This ment if your plane caught fire you could either burn to death or jump out and fall to your death your choice.

Burn to death or jump? .....not fathomable today....as far as being an ace pilot, the number of kills were surprisingly low...under a dozen??
