Kalani was intelligent enough to prevent his troops from being shut down. That's some impressive independent thinking for an AI, makes him essentially the most intelligent droid ever. Every biological General would have fallen for it.

From the unknown regions, Kalani began salvaging droid scrap from across the galaxy. Using what little remaining materials he can find from the Geonosian factory, he slowly reconstructs an army of reanimated machines. Droids with more advanced programming, upgraded combat skills, and better adaptability. This army took many years to make. And once the Empire fell, the Force of Droids continue to battle the First Order even after.

Ok maybe not such huge of fleet, but decently sized enough to be a majpr asset to the Rebels. I've often imagined the idea of me being a Jedi and somehow managing to free my Clone Troopers of the inhibitor chips, then we go into hiding for a few years stealing Republic weapons and rescuing what Clones we can, slowly building our numbers, eventually the Stormtroopers phase out the Clones and we begin gurilla warfare against the Empire. our numbers getting secretly bolstered by the Kaminoans sending troopers shortly before that "Clone Rebellion" mission in Battlefront 2, the veterans wearing Phase 2 armor, and the new guys from Kamino wearing Phase 1 armor.

Keep in mind that Kalani had the rank of General because his internal hardware was superior to even other super tactical droids. Imagine Kalani vs Thrawn. First round Thrawn wrecks him. Then slowly Kalani’s analysis sequence learns how to defeat Thrawn. The only way to beat Kalani would be a devastating first round.

Imagine if Kalani had been building a droid empire out in the Uncharted Regions, and when the Yuuzhan Vong come back so does Kalani. World Devastator (and similar) technology was used to make his army much bigger than expected, and careful signals interception allowed him to conduct espionage and keep his forces up to date.

To all those who are curious, I actually met General Kalani's voice actor (Greg Berger) at TFcon earlier this year. I asked him if Kalani would ever return. He said that Lucasfilm hasn't said anything about that. So as of now, it is unknown if he'll ever come back.

My man Kalani was incredibly disrespected. He was said to be one of the most intelligent droids ever. The fact he even got a name showed he had won dozens of battles. Not to mention his only real weakness was plot armour. I'd love to see him meet Thrawn. Very different tactics in battle, but both are very bright and cunning. Kalani's flaw was looking through the most logical strategies, despite his enemies' unpredictability. Thrawn was able to predict his opponent's strategies even though they were reckless and unpredictable. However, he speant so much time planning for the long-game that he often got surprised in the moment as his plans turned out incorrect. I still think Thrawn would win a battle of tactics, but Kalani is a supercomputer, so he'd easily be smarter as a whole.

I actually like both of Kalani’s voices, I feel the second one feels more ‘real’, as he’s had like 20 years of thinking time, more than enough time to develop some higher sense of individualism. He also sounds like a vaguely British guy who’s just done with everything and wants to just retire already.
