Footage of General Olusegun Obasanjo, the military Head of State of Nigeria, handing power over to the elected civilian civilian President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari.
Shagari became the first civilian leader of Nigeria since January 1966. He was sworn in by the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Fatai Williams.

Shagari: "I, Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari..."
Williams: "Do solemnly swear..."
Shagari:"Do solemnly swear, that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria I will discharge my duties to the best of my ability, faithfully, and in accordance with the constitution."
