No one was opressed, what really happened: everyone got a hungarian name and had to speak the language. I don’t know about denmark and norway beeing significant larger than today but sweden i know during he 1600s concured a lot. All of finland and balticum was swedish, parts of russia, parts of northern germany and preussia too i think. Also parts of denmark (what still is swedish: blekinge halland and skåne) was concured and parts of norway (half of it is still swedish and half is norway again). What would have been larger for denmark would have been since they ”owned” norway and iceland, greenland and faroe islands... and the they lost norway and iceland and still ”owns” the other two... but other than that i can’t think of much more that denmark would have been larger... exept that those regions that became swedish were danish and also the region of gotland once was danish for a while and a little part of estonia for some time.

So, for India, the empires were Maurya and Maratha. And for India and Pakistan the Raj (Who is a colony, but was a way big). If it does, India should claim the heritage of Hindu Majaphpahit empire, because modern muslims of Indonesia then have no claim to it, right? Mughal empire is very much part of Indian heritage since it was ruled from present day Indian capital Delhi, not Pakistani capital Islamabad. Also mughal emperors took the title of 'Emperor of India' not 'emperor of Pakistan.' And legacy of Mughal empire very much lives within modern India in the form of 'Taj Mahal' and mughal descendants.

As a Swede, the first Empire I come to think of when it comes to lost territory is... well, the Swedish Empire. So if you do a part 2 you definitely need to include that one! Other ideas would be: Tunis, Mali (although modern Mali is not the same as the old kingdom of Mali, I still think it kinda counts), Venice (not an independent country but their territory was impressive and their downfall kind of tragic), Czech (kingdom of Bohemia and/or Czechoslovakia?), Bulgaria, Ethiopia..! Maybe Norway (while they were in a union with Denmark, they lost the faroese islands, Iceland and Greenland when they fell under union with Sweden). @@terencesk it was Magyar Királyság (Kingdom of Hungary), later became Ausztria-Magyarország, after WW1 it became Magyar Népköztársaság (peoples republic) later then republic, after that people republic under the soviet area, from 1990 its republic again. The word of Slovakia or slovaks wasnt existed in our language, the people that was mixed with hungarians in the Felvidék (szlovákai) was called Tóth-ok (its actually a popular family name in Hungary as well), the Tóthtok sometimes can understand hungarian language, they had mixed words from slavic and hungarians. The upper area towards Poland where wasnt too much hungarians was only slavs. Basicly, the slovaks are slavs who came from Poland and Bohemia (Czeh republic) and a few rutens (from todays Ukraine), mostly after the the mongols killed 30% of the hungarian population and our idiot king (King Bela IV.) inited a lot of people from neighbour countries to fill the fields with workers and peasants, because of the this came a lot of slavs to the north and south and romanians to Erdély. The Habsburgs did the same after the Ottmans were chased back from Hungary, more romanians settled in Erdély (transylvania). We never complained about Croatia, we never had it "legally", it was a personal union with them for approx 800years, this is why you see it in brighter green color in this video. And the hungarians was fked up totally in the middle (the whole population was 3x bigger then GB in the 15.th century LOL, it was the same as France). This is why we lost the majority of the ethnicity within the kingdom and our noob austrian king wanted to replace these losses with non hungarian settlers....great idea. I know the choices are subjective and difficult to agree on. But I guess if Ottoman Empire and Mongolian empires are added, Persian empire should have been included. Also if Lithuania is there, So should have been Poland! I see Ommawid or Abbasid Islamic Caliphates are tricky because not exactly one country currently can be considered ass it’s continuation. Also Napoleon France as extremely short lived, there are tons of other countries that expanded in 10 years and then went back to original size. I don't think Greece really qualifies. Prior to the Macedonians, "Greece" wasn't unified by any stretch of the imagination, and arguing that the Macedonian Empire should count as Greece is definitely controversial. The Byzantine Empire was just the Eastern Roman Empire, but I could see an argument of it being considered "Greece" since Hellenic culture was the most prominent in the east, but it'd cause quite the stir in the comments

To say that the Macedonian Empire could count as modern Greece, is a highly ridiculous and outrageous statement. Respectable world historians will laugh in their face for wanting to absorb anything that is in (as of about 100 years ago) or near the modern Greek territory, as part of the modern Greek history. 2 millennia ago, Macedonia was a monarchy, while the separate Hellene city states were a democracy. Hellenes considered Macedonians as barbarians, different from them, not even worth for slaves, and both people despised each other. In the battle of Chaeronea in 338BC Phillip II and Alexander the Great crushed the united Hellene forces, and put all the Hellene city-states under the Macedonian dominion. 2300 years have passed. And in the meantime the region was under the Roman Empire, the Eastern Roman Empire, the Ottoman Empire. Tons of tribes have invaded the region, and have completely changed the genes of the people living on the Balkan peninsula. And today modern Greeks claim they are pure blooded people descending directly from some ancient people? How bonkers do you have to be to believe in that!?
