POV: You’re a pilgrim, about to walk El Camino de Santiago and intend to start in France, and get stopped by a border guard for a superfluous spot check as you cross from Spain into France so you can start at San Jean Pied de Port (assuming you flew to Spain, not a problem if you fly to somewhere in France). I really hope that doesn’t happen to me when I walk the Camino with my dad.

I don’t mind getting rid of Schengen and return border controls to sovereign nations. As EU citizens we would still be allowed to cross borders within the Union without much hassle.

In my opinion, we European should have one union-level police body, consisting in police units from single member states, that patrols external EU borders, and reports directly to an European law enforcement agency. During hard times (and another Trump presidency on the horizon), we should unite more, not get fragmented like whimsical schoolboys.

@@archstanton6102 Although it is in Schengen. The EU and Shengen are not synonymous. Ireland is in the EU but cannot be a member of Shengen since it shares a Common Travel Area with Britain.

lol, that is in no way relevant at all. Some Isreali's got triggered because a lot of people in Amsterdam support palestine. These Isrealis then did vandalism which resulted in backlash from the local populace. I hope you are aware that these Isreali football supporters are almost guaranteed to have come by plane and thus have been checked when entering the country. Interesting video. The notion of a "boderless nation" is an oxymoron. The Schengen Area is a complete anathema to the concept of a nation state and the fact that it is now being undermined can only be a good thing. There is already a "psychological divide" between European nations. Most continental countries speak different languages, adhere to different customs and have often been traditional enemies. The idea of a "shared European identity" is an over-exaggerated nonsense dreamt up by bureaucrats in Brussels in order to weaken and eventually destroy the sovereignty of EU member states.
