There are so many hair tutorials that I tried to follow! Too many placed the hair themselves. I knew there had to be a "lazy" and easy method! This is bloody fantastic! The Blender particle system works well to give natural looking particles and this approach to generating hair cards like this is fantastic. Such a wonderful video, thank you so much!

Fact is, this isn't even that "Lazy" - It's just a technique we usually ignore its existence aha!

I'd love if you would announce your shortcuts in future videos. It is rather difficult to follow your curser (which sometimes appears to be quite nervous) and reading the keys while trying to create along... Actually I spent more time scrolling around in the video on 0.5 speed setting to catch the split second when the text pops up than doing anything else. Maybe it's just me who feels like that... But personally I appreciate tutorials which I can run on the side while creating along. This was not possible in this case which lend to a bit of a chaotic experience.

dumb question but do games usually have backface culling off for hair? I've had a lot of dumb questions lately but this ones the dumbest and I can't seem to know how to angle all my hair cards if they are expected to have backface culling on lol

Good to see other ways, but I think Hair Tools plugin illuminates all of the unnecessary manual work

Not everybody has the cash to spare for the right tools though. So this is more of a free option.

It still won't give you good texture samples though, which is what makes hair look nice. Look at the hair tools Square Enix made for FFXV. Parametrized poly strips alongside particle hair and then you can bake each particle hair strand and its children straight to its respective poly strip. Meanwhile, here we are, creating an entire setup just to be able to create a couple samples from particle hair. They have unlimited samples with that baking process.

Thanks for the awesome tutorial! Is there a way to export the final hair color map outside from blender and render in other software?

I wish someone could help me learn how to export textures in an fbx file. I tried following all the tutorials and it doesn't work. I change it to copy and click the icon still doesn't work.

Tou need to export you testextures separately. Fbc is just mesh. You need to bake and export testures
