Eltreum from Gunbuster, considering it hull is made from it namesake material can only be destroyed by it antimatter equivalent and possible travel at relativistic speeds like every other ship in the series. If you think that its engines are a possible weak point forget it because the Eltreum moves around through pure mathematics but it does require psychically-enabled humans and/or porpoises as pilots and finally it 70km long. Yes, this is from a publish work.

I too really like the design of the ship and I really like how they launch raptors and put up kind of a AAA fire perimeter. I also really like there’s a couple of shots in the show when cylon base ships jump in and you see for a few seconds the battlestar starting to turn broadside in order to protect the fleet and set up a perimeter. The art department did a fantastic job on the whole series. I live in Los Angeles and took a 35 mm class at the UCLA extension and the guy who edited Battlestar, I honestly can’t remember his name was in the class and he took us over to the studio and we got to screen one of the episodes before it actually aired that he was working on, it was really cool.

Actually you should be watching Battlestar Galactica. No knocks on sg1 or sga. Both good scifi shows for their time. Better than most of any era. But Battlestar Galactica is a great show for any time. Not only was it a focused 4 season's vs. Just so many. But Battlestar was written in a 4 season completed story. So you get the entire vision of the writer when you are finished. Most series just keep adding on storylines to keep the seasons going. The cast of Battlestar is also surprisingly good for any show let alone a scifi series. For a scifi series this is maybe the best opening cast ever. It's also an adult show. Not that PG ratings are bad but an r rating is very refreshing for us adult scifi fans. In America we just don't get much well written and acted adult scifi. Overall the Stargate groups of series are some of the best serial American science fiction. Good quality "watch with the family" scifi TV shows. But Battlestar is a whole different monster. It's by Rolling Stones standard one of the best television shows ever made. After watching 10 seasons of Stargate if you never watch the rest you honestly won't miss anything groundbreaking or just that different than all the other scifi you have already seen. If you miss out on Battlestar Galactica you will be missing out on a rare and exquisite gem. Something never done before in America or done since. Battlestar Galactica was and still is an amazing show. Well written and acted with a star studded cast. A complete science fiction saga written and directed as a complete 4 season story. And you will be missing out on the only well done no hand holding adult scifi TV show ever made in the United States. Stargate is good. @@ebee-uz1oz that full set of heavy batteries looked extremely frightening, after watching the main series. I feel there could have been a great run of a full 1-2 maybe more season Blood and Chrome Series. The writers would have had to reorientate from their humanoid Cylon fokus and I'm not sure what they would do, if they couldn't write naked sexbots into it, but I believe they could have overcome that hurdle.

Yep... a decommissioned old spaceship that was effectively falling apart and being made into a museum stop for military history that got suddenly activated and thrust into battle and held its own. That's like taking a floating battleship that we have here on Earth from WWII that got turned into a museum and put into active duty as a WWIII warship and doing what an entire task force of warships can do, still keep afloat, and even recover. Galactica was indestructible in its time, downgraded to "merely" be super-durable via becoming "obsolete" while falling into disrepair and dismantling.

The Space Battleship Yamato made a round trip from it's underwater hanger off of Japan to the Clouds of Magellan and back in just under one year, being constantly under attack both ways. It was so badly damaged at times it was about to fall apart but they had no trouble repairing it while under flight and under fire, not even when submerged in a sea of acid. It took on an entire Interstellar Empire by itself, using technology that had just been invented and never even tested, including Earth's first FTL drive. That should be worth a mention at least in this series. GT should do an episode on animated starships.

Far more concerning about the Enterprise is not how many 'dangerous incidents' it survived, but how many of them it had. Think of all the weird accidents, equipment malfunctions and glitches, security breaches, several iterations of alien organisms contaminating the ship and many of those incidents killed and endangered the crew and put the entire ship out of action for hours or days. The enterprise is sturdy in the sense of an old Lada that was converted to a horse carriage by sawing off the motor block. It's 'sturdy' because it's still flying. But it should have been decommissioned and probably seriously redesigned a long time ago, for the better of its crew.

from what i remember of it, someone said that the galactica wasnt destroyed by enemy action and was only finally beaten by its own sheer old age, as a fairly primitive human made vessel it had none of the regen stuff that makes for the super long lived craft and suffered the degradation that consumes and ultimately destroys all ships given enough time, even the ships that do have the regen suffer this eventually it just takes longer to hit the tipping point

And Galactica's deterioration was not due to age as much as shoddy work. Corners were cut in her creation due to the necessity of having the ships quickly to fight in the first war, leaving a frame that was full of fractures and would cause her to ultimately fall apart.
@unseenoni5819
@unseenoni5819 3 жыл бұрын
@@connorbennett1517 I mean but beyond that, she suffered nuclear strikes, missile bombardment, boarding actions, internal firefights during rebellions, insurgencies, mutinies, and multiple cases of sabotage. The battle at New Caprica alone was enough to do significant damage to her frame, had that fight never taken place, chances are she prolly would have kept going for another 4-5 years no problem, but that bombardment, combined with the Adama Manuever over the planet, aka jumping in atmo, likely caused serious structural damage. Shoddy construction aside, that poor ship took so much pounding that wasn't just the result of combat with the Cylons.

Excellent list! The BC-304's of Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis are pretty tough ships themselves: compared to the Ha'Tak pyramid ships they were designed to fight, a Daedalus-class 304 is built like a friggin' _tank._ The shields help a lot, of course - the shields let one 304 park in the path of a _solar flare_ at one point, which was enough to vaporize a TNG-era Borg cube - but they're just tough as old boots in general. That really puts the power and durability of the Ori ships in perspective, though. Ha'Taks were kind of power-creeped into middling threats as the seasons went on, but they're still powerful ships in objective terms: a couple Ha'Taks were enough to conquer Earth in the first season. The Tau'ri had spent weeks/several episodes making deals and calling in favors with every faction with a fleet to bring dozens of those monsters to the Battle of P3Y-229, not to mention fast-tracking the construction of the _Korolev_ to get it in the air in time as well. So, when those world-conquering Ha'Taks are getting aced by Ori death rays, and even one of the incredibly durable Daedalus-class battlecruisers is vaporized after only two or three hits... I remember it being a gut-punch to see the handful of Ori ships just effortlessly tear apart that massive unified fleet of Milky Way warships in minutes. Speaking of Stargate, my recommendation is to dive into Atlantis next. It does a creditable job of capturing a similar feel to SG-1.

Oh yeah, tech wise Stargate pretty much tops most Sci-fi, I mean Hataks can park in a sun's corona unshielded! Meanwhile in other Sci-fi universes: oh no it a sun, get away get away!

Well, only one ship on that list survived a direct hit from a nuke without shields and only had some bad fires in the nearby areas. So when it come to basic physical durability... there's one clear winner. The Battlestar Galactica. That said, the Ori ring ships with their shields up did definitely take the cake. Though they were reliant on the Ori to power and support them so I am cautious on them. Never a fan of technology that requires external support from and outside source for critical life and death matters. Now this all said... the battlestars were tough in the core, but they lacked good offensive and defensive options. They were tough on account of just being built with such a thick and armored hull that they were basically flying metal bricks. If you put them up against the Enterprise or most others on these lists... they'd get slaughtered since they can't really dish out the pain as well as they can take it, and they are still taking it with their hull. Their defenses are also almost entirely built to counter small short ranged physical objects like slow unarmored missiles or fighters. Shoot some lasers, large MAC cannon rounds, phasers, plasma lances, or most other things at the ship and you'll deal some very serious damage to that one part of the ship you hit and puncture through. It'll probably take several shots still, but you can deal some damage and destroy it with some time. And most of these other ships can out range or simply ignore the weapons of the Galactica and its escort fighters. The Galactica survived almost entirely because it could run away so often. But with an enemy that's got good jump abilities to pop in, start shooting within seconds right on the Galactica... that approach really wouldn't work as well as it did against the Cylons and stuff.

The Ori ships didn't rely on the help of the ascended Ori what so ever once they were in the milky way. The priors were required to initiate the systems and fly the ship, but they were simply more powerful humans with special powers of their own. The Ori could in no way directly influence anything in the milky way as the Ancients were stopping them. The ships were simply that powerful all on their own.

@@matyasofinvention6304 Well I certainly am not subscribing to their faith or brainwashing or stuff, so I'd likely not be able to fulfill that role myself. In which case I'd much rather be relying on some good old fashioned technology that works just fine on its own like a Marza Dreadnought or Ankylon Titan. If i want near invulnerability in my ship, I want it to be able to fulfill that without requiring some alien power or something that I can't produce and fully control myself "naturally" or such. Even if its like the Andromeda Ascendant where its largely reliant on an AI or such entinty, that's better than what you need with an Ori ship imo.

I'd disagree that the battlestars were unable to dish it out: Galactica was smaller and less capable than Pegasus, but still capable of getting into the middle of a brawl and smashing other capital ships (like cylon basestars). As well as the point defence turrets all over the hull, there were eight larger gun turrets on the dorsal hull (also capable of contibruting to the flak screen), and at least 2 heavy guns mounted in the prow, plus a number of heavy missile tubes that it could use to launch nukes. Oh, and her Viper and Raptor squadrons. Why don't we really see this brawling power being used? Well, for much of the series, Galactica is essentially the sole main combatant for a fleet of civilian ships: humanity can't afford to have the fleet's only defender drawn away from the defenceless noncombatants trying to get into a position to do the most damage with its big guns. To maximise the firing arcs for the dorsal guns (and thus provide the greatest chance of intercepting incoming fire aimed at the fleet), she needs to present her broadside to the attack, and roll so the enemy are slightly 'above' her. If she can do that and present her port side while doing that, it maximises the delta-v advantage/budget for the Vipers, as it points the port launch catapults in mostly the right direction (while keeping them out of the flak wall Galactica is throwing out) (Why can't they use the Starboard launch? It's a gift shop now...). Unfortunately, doing so keeps Galactica's biggest, deadliest guns pointed at right angles to where their ideal target is. Also unfortunately, the nukes Galactica has in her magazines at the start of the series (less than 20) are all that humanity has left. And they keep getting stolen... It's not until the later seasons that we see a battlestar really let loose, unfettered by the need to protect civilians, and when they do, their fury is awesome to behold.

@@ala5530 In setting Battlestars are pretty capable yes. But compare that to the Enterprise, Pillar of Autumn, Borg Cube, Infinity, a Super Star Destroyer, any covenant capital ship (even a smaller cruiser), an Ankylon titan, an Ori ring ship, the Daedalus... Really, compared to most other settings the ability to fire small explosive projections at slow speed is considered super low power on the attack side. One shot from a phaser, one shot from a MAC cannon, one plasma lance from a covey capital ship, a beam shot from the Daedalus.... The only weapon beyond small flak fire and medium explosive shells, things many other settings consider completely worthless against capital ships, is nukes. And slow missiles not being teleported around are often of somewhat limited viability against these other ships, both in their ability to not be intercepted, but also in their ability to even damage them should they hit. I mean if you want nukes any Terran ship from stargate could pack a pretty sizeable number of nukes into missiles, and onto its fighters as well. Or many UNSC ships, not hard to find ones packing dozens of nuclear missiles. But missiles are often seen as limited weapons themselves against many ships, especially ones with shields.

@@terricon4 these ships are being compared to see how the defend against and attack in universe threats, ie a battlestar does a great job against the sciolons, and the enterprise vs borg, and ori v goauld and tari. though im sure there would be great discotion on these ships combating in a cross over, the strengths are determined in universe so you know which ship you would be safest on where you to be on it or command it against in universe threats. ofc the death star vs and ori ship may no longer be in the ori's favor, likewise warp and phasor technology vs battlestar is a bit unfair as you are trying to see does the galactica defend against scilons better or worse than the enterprise (or another galaxy class) defends against dominion.

I'm really surprised you listed the Ori Mothership, over the upgraded Daedalus class. the upgraded Daedalus could tank SEVERAL hits from ori ships, but at the same time could take down an ori ship with just 2-3 hits with its beam cannons. As well, we've seen them tanking hit after hit from Wraith hive ships, Ghould mother ships, and such... but its most impressive feat, and the benchmark to meusure it by.... was taking a CME aka a massive solar flare, to the FACE. This was the kind of event that wiped out a borg ship instantly... Obliterated multiple Klingon ships... and took out an entire ship yard full of jemhadar ships. This kind of blast has been shown to kill star destroyers instantly, as a star destroyer caught in a CME is just obliterated... shields, armor, did nothing... And while the Daedalus class took thermal damage to its forward hull and did have systems start failing... its shields held out more then long enough to deflect and dispurse the force of the CME so it didn't kill all life on a planet. Fully ZPM Powered Daedalus class ships... can tank the fire from fleets, they are just insanely OP... Super fast... and with their beam cannons, have enough firepower to cut a moon in half.

Dalek Saucers: _Am I a joke to you?_ Now, even individual, standard Dalek drones were basically living tanks. Lasers or blasters don't do anything to them normally. Their energy shielding and force fields make them almost unstoppable to begin with. According to the Doctor himself, Dalek shielding can tank direct nuclear blasts: - _"It's fully formed now. I can't just throw a brick at it again. Its got a tough, radiation-proof casing. It's immune to every infection. It'd just blink at a nuclear explosion. If it could blink."_ Even with their shielding down, they have armoured casings/hulls made of Dalekanium. At baseline, this is bulletproof, indestructible against most lasers/blasters/bombs. Even a battle-damaged Dalek with it's shielding down, can survive re-entry and impact forces strong enough to punch a burning crater deep into hard, igneous/volcanic rocks. Even after it was on fire for 3 days after crashing, it was still completely unharmed, as though it may as well have fallen into a giant marshmallow. They are insanely durable. What makes the LGTW (Last Great Time War) Daleks even worse, is how they can upgrade on the spot and are able to rapidly adapt and learn to deal with new enemy weaponry and countermeasures. Sometimes someone fighting them shall basically figure out a way to hinder them if only temporarily, briefly, and within a minute or two, the Daleks will have negated the problem: - _"The loader's gravity field cancels out the Dalek's elevation units,' explained Scrum. He was moving around the Dalek, examining the neck and shoulder sections carefully, 'I've rigged a high-frequency radio jamming field too, which should counteract the motive unit."_ The Doctor nodded, impressed. "Yeah, that might work. I've done that a couple of times myself. It'll interfere with the guidance systems at least, and maybe the motive unit. But it won't last for ever. You'll get ten seconds, tops, before it finds a way to cancel the jamming field." - Prisoner of the Daleks Their very armoured casings have hundreds of elaborate defence mechanisms, making it dangerous even if the Dalek itself has been killed (which is no mean feat) Booby traps and death traps in the armour casings can make them very dangerous to even go near. - _"We had to move it,"_ Scrum explained. _"Cuttin' Edge didn't have any room to work."_ _"That was risky,"_ said the Doctor. _"Even a dead Dalek is dangerous. They've got a hundred different automatic defences."_ _"It's all right, we didn't even touch it. I used a couple of cargo grapplers to shift it down to the hold. It's dead. I could crack it open with the right tools."_ The Doctor stared at him. _"Believe me, you really don't want to do that. Every Dalek has defences against that sort of thing. It would be like playing with a live hand grenade. The creature inside may be dead, but that casing is chock full of anti-handling devices and booby traps that would make your hair curl. There are enough self-destruct mechanisms packed inside one of those things to keep a team of bomb-disposal experts happy for a month."_ - Prisoner of the Daleks If you tried to walk up to a shielded, living Dalek, and tried to touch the armour (assuming it let you get that close in the first place) then your hands would vapourise off in the shielding layers, and probably set the rest of you on fire. Quite simply, they are not hospitable to any life. They are genocidal monsters and hate everything that is not a Dalek. By fighting the Time Lords, they became even stronger than they already were. The Dalek Empire had 10 million Dalek Saucers and a billion billion Daleks on them during the Last Great Time War by the last day of the war. When the previously all-powerful, mighty Time Lords, start to lose a universal war fought across all of time and space, in spite of all their powers, you just know how strong the Daleks became. 1 Dalek saucer has been proven to be able to destroy planets by itself. 4 Daleks of the Cult of Skaro, refused negotiations of alliance with 5 million Cybus Cybermen during the Battle of Canary Wharf, instead claiming that 1 Dalek was enough to kill all 5 million of them. The Daleks don't often make idle threats, so it was probably not a joke. It has been proven that 1 Dalek saucer can destroy an entire planet. Daleks = universe and time continuum spreading threat to all existence. Literally have de-mat guns which can erase someone from all of time. The reality bomb alone would be a huge shake up to whoever they were compared against. Their Flagships especially would be some of the most powerful warships in sci-fi. Just a single powerful Dalek warship, has been proven to be able to destroy a planet. Extremely durable, even against the Time Lords.
