Sabine Wren will be one of the first apprentices in Star Wars without a strong connection to the force. While some might see that as a bad thing, I think it will actually make for some extremely deep character development and could make the overall story much stronger.

I would be 100% happy seeing Sabine have the barest of force talent and being able to use what little connection she has to her benefit. Like it would be great for her to accept and find hapiness in her own abilities and rejecting the desire to self loathe for not being as strong as Ahsoka or Ezra. Would be a much needed lesson for people. Finding strength in yourself in whatever capacity you can, and still doing good for others

Honestly the fact we don't have more stories about the Jedi Service Corp. is a crying shame. As a kid I always thought the idea of washing out of Knight training and having to do work in agriculture, medicine, education, or exploration would suck, but as I've gotten older the idea of force users who are non-combatants sounds pretty rad. Like imagine a story focused around a Jedi medic who goes around the galaxy treating the sick and the injured but is constantly patronized because they aren't a knight. Or Jedi instructor who was actually once a knight but decided to retire to the Educational Corp because they decided teaching was a better way to help the galaxy than violence. But sadly the Service Corp never got a lot of love even during the pre-Disney era, and now post-Disney it seems to have been largely forgotten

I honestly think that Sabine won’t be lifting things or performing superhuman feats. I think at most she might become like Chirrut, developing an affinity for the Force that enhances her martial skills and physical abilities (reaction time, senses, etc) through faith and spiritual discipline. In fact…I think the Jedi including non-Force Sensitives would be a great thing. It stops the Force from being this thing that is gatekeepers by genetics and lets it become this thing anyone can study and aspire to understand. Yeah, they wouldn’t be as effective as someone who can crush a droid with a thought and a gesture, but it could allow for a form of Jedi who are more humble and also expand the Order’s ranks with more warriors, diplomats, etc. In the Clone Wars we saw Mandalorian warriors deflect rapid blaster bolts with their battle staffs, and in Jedi Survivor there were Bedlam Raiders who could deflect blaster boots with lightsabers gifted to them by Gera. In short…I think it actually would be an invaluable idea for the new Jedi Order to expand to be mostly made up of people who can’t outwardly wield the Force but can still be trained to use it to still be formidable both in and outside of a fight.

IMO the Jedi lost their way at the point of the schism where the study of the dark side was banned and its followers were kicked out to become the Sith because at that point (or shortly before) they lost the ability to attain balance in the force. Standing fully on one side or another of anything means that you will be upsetting the balance of said thing and as time went on the Jedi seem to have become forever more dogmatic and officious with those like Qui-Gon Jinn who decide to follow the will of the force becoming a rarity rather than the mainstay of the order. I am hopeful that within this series of Ashoka the main character and her apprentice, Sabine in their quest to find her link to the force can find the balance between light and dark that the Jedi lost in order to become more than what that lost order was.

" the Jedi lost their way at the point of the schism where the study of the dark side was banned and its followers were kicked out to become the Sith because at that point (or shortly before) they lost the ability to attain balance in the force." To quote Han Solo, that's not how the Force work. The Dark side isn't and never was some other side which you can compromise and find a balance. The dark side is sheer corruption. "cause at that point (or shortly before) they lost the ability to attain balance in the force. Standing fully on one side or another of anything means that you will be upsetting the balance of said thing and as time went on the Jedi seem to have become forever more dogmatic and officious with those like Qui-Gon Jinn who decide to follow the will of the force becoming a rarity rather than the mainstay of the order." Following the will of the Force, following the politics of the Republic and following the dark side are three separate thing. "I am hopeful that within this series of Ashoka the main character and her apprentice, Sabine in their quest to find her link to the force can find the balance between light and dark that the Jedi lost in order to become more than what that lost order was." I really love this new Sabine Wren storyline. It’s very human and it shows that regardless of where you come from you can do great things as long as you put great focus and effort into what you do. I think we will see a growth cycle from zero to hero. It won’t be fast but it will get better. She will start to open herself like she was told and trust it. Totally agree with you regarding dogma and how it keeps people from just understanding the core concepts morality. At our core morality is something that keeps us from being wild animals. Well said, Generation Tech. During the second episode when Sabine was about to be ambushed after she had taken the map from Ahsoka, I honestly felt that Sabine should be/would be defeated by the dark apprentice (forget her name at this moment) so I was more satisfied with how the show was going to portray Sabine's abilities rather than, as pointed out, suddenly being all lightsaber powerful. Fighting an untrained Mandalorian with the Dark Saber is one thing, fighting a Sith-trained assassin is another.

Very insightful observation that Hu-Yang is a perfect proxy for the Jedi Order, underscoring the flaws of an Order that felt it was the 'good guys'. George Lucas has always been clear that Star Wars is essentially a fairy tale with a fairly straightforward good vs. evil narrative. As audicences have grown, matured, and become more nuanced Star Wars has had to evolve content to remain relatable as well.

I know it's not cannon anymore but was re-reading the plaguis novel and there is a line that I think is important about midichlorians and the force. "A common misconception held that midi-chlorians were Force-carrying particles, when in fact they functioned more as translators, interlocutors of the will of the Force" Inate ability and midi-chlorians count just means you have an advantage in the force with learning it. Not that it is impossible.

That is the hardest thing about being a Star Wars fan. A friend once cautioned me "hate it if you want but if Disney fails you won't get the books back. You'll get silence for many years. No one will enjoy that no matter what they say." Sometimes i think he's a nuter but honestly he's not wrong. We need to support what is here and as our host above advised: not rely on guides or hearsay. Only what see and experience. Truly all fandoms should embrace this. I didn't overly like what Rings of Power did but I didn't just say "It's vile and because this site said it's bad I'm not watching it". We let other's informed opinions decide things for us too much.

No matter how many times I saw that Sabine gets stabbed with lightsaber scene, I always wondered how the heck did she survive that. Sure, it did not pierce her vital organ. But the point is that the wound that the lightsaber caused also burned both inside and outside of her fleshes. This will caused the permanent scar on the outside and it will created this burned wound that will be considered as the gangrene as well. And gangrene is anything but good.
@astra6640
@astra6640 Жыл бұрын
Eh, firstly she received almost instant medical aid as Ahsoka was already headed there and the city is like, next door, secondly they have stuff like Bacta in Star Wars, and lastly... I mean, a lightsaber blade tends to leave unrealistically small marks for what it is, so going by that logic, it's not like half of her body was cooked on the inside. If no vital organs were hit, I'm pretty sure you could fix a hole that size in someone irl too, if they got to a qualified hospital quickly enough. I mean, I'm almost certain there's been people impaled with way bigger things than a saber blade who survived. Funnily enough the cauterisation from the heat might be a contributing factor to survivability rather than lethality, since it helps reduce blood loss from the injury. In terms of overall logic, it can make sense. Now, whether we want to allow it with prior lore... that is up for debate. Then again, we even have Maul surviving with literally half of his body in TCW. Considering that the show is a continuation of Rebels, which had major tie-ins from TCW, all of this is pretty much in line with what we know. I think the only question is whether that befits live action or not, but given Disney's handling of things like that so far, I think they are absolutely putting it in live action in general, so at least Sabine's case isn't unique.
@Toliman.
@Toliman. Жыл бұрын
@@astra6640 The saber is controlled plasma. If it can cut through a blast door, walls, floor, stone, it can cut through a person much, much faster. and does. Ahsoka cuts through Stone floors, Metal Droids with almost zero resistance, bone will not nearly be as tough. The story is telling you that lightsabers are extremely strong at cutting Metal, Stone. And now, People. The danger is if you start to read-into or produce your own story to explain events. The story intends for Sabine to be severely harmed for dramatic purpose, and shows the lightsabers as effectively lethally sharp, able to cut metal, stone like butter. If you make Sabine special, make her Resilient or give her healing, is it because she's Mandalorian ? if so, does that apply to Dinn and other Mandalorians who cover themselves thoroughly with Body Armor for ... aesthetics. The core issue is that they have 'nerfed' the effective threat of the Sith because they want the story to give the characters plot armor, or to make the Sith sympathetic, i.e. it's a 'training scar' and really, Hati isn't evil, she's just Blonde, sic. If you are now saying that people can survive being impaled, or that you want to read this wound as merciful, coming from Shin Hati as a Sith/Apprentice, go ahead. It's not as if it matters because we'll likely never get her backstory or flashback. The story needs to explain that Shin Hati is showing Mercy, for you to read that as being merciful. Because... it's not apparent that she is attempting to be 'kind' given how earlier in the episode, she cuts through several New Republic security staff off-camera very quickly. The common denominator is Disney reducing the lethality of Lighsabers to get past ESRB/MPAA ratings for violence, also makes the show cheaper to produce. Given that the opening scene of the show, Shin Hati is cutting through people with her lightsaber... in a friendly way ... maybe they all survived. One even has a "leg wound" despite being 'unconscious' and lying on the floor. Not that it really affects streaming, but it does present additional factors if you can't 'sell' star wars to children. The consistency is a problem for people who saw the prequels, it also makes the movies in which lightsaber battles took place. If you think it's about being able to access a medic, then people who have Lightsabers would also keep a medical kit handy, if their occupational hazard is dealing with people who fight with lightsabers. Maybe all of those Security staff who were shot and stabbed ... got medical assistance. Being impaled is not something that you should be able to 'walk away from' in any sense. Being stabbed through, is a non-trivial injury that would injure several organs in the body, and also sever stomach muscles needed to stand up, sit, et al. If you want to try and justify this in SW Lore... go ahead. The problem is, you also have to mix the "bloodless" Snoke severing scene in TLJ ... while also justifying the Darth Maul reconstruction of his lower torso. Fatality seems to be Story related, not Medically related. Especially the Inquisitor surviving being stabbed in the stomach. Hence why Obi-Wan, has Reva stabbed twice, and the Inquisitor impaled more than once. Fennec Shand has her stomach replaced, Luke has a hand replaced, Maul has his entire torso replaced, Palpatine survived a veritable nuclear explosion (maybe Sheev used the force to break a hole through the second death star and flew through empty space ... because Leia could. And he ran away, destroying his own Death Star, instead of flying up and resuming the fight with Vader and Luke...)

Dave Filoni is 100% committed to destroying all established Star Wars canon. Undoing all achievements of the characters from the past. Ahsoka is not a Jedi master, therefore she can never train Sabine to become a Jedi. Besides destroying all prior rules as to who can master the force, now saying it can be done through focus and training- the character of Sabine that’s been established in this show is NOT some disciplined, dedicated person who deserves to be the one to rewrite Star Wars lore.

Beyond the matter of, as Han Solo once put it, "That's not how the Force works." It just made her story flat. It was Luke's struggles and missteps that made The Empire Strikes Back what it was. Sabine's struggles and mistakes will make her story one that we may want to remember.

sabine may be called an 'apprentice' but not a padawan, a padawan is strictly used for jedi in training who have graduated from 'youngling' after years of indoctrination and training under the jedi system/ organization, and a padawan must be under a 'full jedi', ahsoka was kicked out of the jedi organization and as she herself said, she is not a jedi, the term jedi is not a generic term for all 'good sided force users'

I agree with a lot of what you said at the beginning about the Star Wars fanbase and discourse online. Star Wars fans are always so MISERABLE, and instead of just saying "I dislike this thing, I am not going to engage with or think about it anymore", they go on a crusade to every single video and tweet and forum post on the internet and have to let everyone know they're an idiot for liking this thing, or that they think Disney has ruined Star Wars (except for that one time they didn't with that one show because they liked that show), or that the new thing is actually "woke trash" because all of the protagonists are women, or whatever else they want to complain about. And that's not to say that a lot of modern Star Wars doesn't deserve criticism, because it definitely does, but some people seem to base their entire personality on how much they HATE Star Wars while also calling themselves a diehard fan. I hated the sequel trilogy of movies. You know what I did when I walked out of the theater? I said "Damn that sucked" and then never thought about it again, didn't engage in online discourse about it, and just moved on, because my limited time on this planet is too valuable for me to spend it just talking about things I hate. I love Star Wars. Sure I don't love ALL of it, but if I don't like a show or movie, there's plenty of Star Wars out there for me to just move on to and grab onto that thing instead. I wish Star Wars fans could just learn to dislike a thing like a normal person instead of making it their mission to be the most insufferable and miserable people on the planet.

I think it's interesting that a person with no talent in the Force is being trained as a Jedi. Sabine may not be able to use the Force like a Jedi, but she could still act like one, and possibly train others too. And as a matter of principal, gaging a prospective Jedi by how powerful they could become seems more like Sith ideology when you think about it. And my personal theory about the Force is that the more powerful you are, the higher the risk of falling to the Dark Side. I.e. you feel the potential within you, and drawing on anger and hate will help you reach that potential quickly. Someone with no potential won't benefit by giving in. Sabine can either be patient or she can quit, and given that all living creatures has at least some connection to the Force, she may develop some modest skill eventually. Perhaps proving once and for all that the Light Side really is stronger, because ultimately, patience and discipline will award her more than untempered passion could.

I don't hate Star Wars. Star Wars ended for me after 2014. Because to me, Star Wars is 1-6 and the EU (not counting TCW. Nothing against it, but it just breaks too much established canon for me to consider it a part of the same universe). I couldn't care less about the new stories Disney is putting out because the stories and characters I love are over. Nothing new will be done with them, save to poach them to win back fan goodwill. Andor, regardless of quality, failed to make bank because people were checked out of Star Wars at that point. As the old adage goes, "Apathy is death." I think I'm about done unless the Expanded Universe is unburied and the original creative talent is put back in charge.

I believed that's where filoni is heading with the story of both ahsoka and sabine. Huyang is following is programming wich is very orthodoxe and exclude everything that don't fit in the doctrine that is the jedi order. Sabine is learning trough orthodoxe method and Ahsoka realised that she is still using jedi's doctrine to instruct Sabine and she has to change her way to fit with her apprentice. Like in the episode 3 were Ahsoka as to relied on sabine instructions to destroy the ships. Ahsoka and Sabine have to learned eachother's methods to become more reliable to one another

Alan i love your channel, but this Sabine padawan plot is hard to swallow. We know that a master padawan relationship was between a jedi and their apprentice. Even if we accepted Ahsoka was trying a new thing Ahsoka left the Jedi order and shows no interest in being a jedi. The great thing about rebels was we already had a new age jedi apprentice relationship with Kanan and Ezra. The rest of the phoenix squad was a Mandalorian, a badass pilot, and a lasat captain. Their strenths overlapped each others weaknesses to make one great rebel cell. I feel that Dave Filoni is trying to hard to make Sabine an epic character instead of letting her stand on her strenths (Mandalorian fighting, art, explosives) and weaknesses (Ezra, belonging, her Clan).

I'm fine with Sabine not being able to use the force, because as Huyang says, she can't. I don't know about you, but I'd listen to the droid that's been serving the Jedi over the entirety of the 25,000+ year old existence minus 5 years, over the padawan that never finished her training when it comes to matters of the force. That being said, why can Sabine no longer do anything? Fire a blaster, work a ship turret, fight with a sword, which she could do in Rebels because Kanan and Ezra taught her. It's been a while, but she fought Gar Saxon with a lightsaber and won. Why has she just forgotten how to fight? I feel this is an OVERCORRECTION for Rey and it's hurting the show for me.
@josephivenegas
@josephivenegas Жыл бұрын
Shin Hati has the Dark side and ongoing fencing experience with her master. Who knows the last time Sabine (now) or Gar Saxon (then) crossed blades with anyone? As for why Sabine grabs the lightsaber instead of her gun when pursuing the assassin droids... IDK, instinct? Maybe she just really wanted to use Ezra's weapon to retrieve Ezra's map? And even if she did have her gun, Sabine already knows better than to shoot at a Sith. Plus, this whole show seems built on Sabine's confidence as a Jedi warrior, and has yet to internalize a fusion of both her fighting styles, which might be harder than it seems, since Mando and Jedi philosophies have always clashed. That and Ahsoka is the number one person in the galaxy more stubborn than Sabine, and not to be mean, a very different teacher than Kanan. Her struggle to master both of these identities is a mountain she'll have to tackle throughout this series.

Sebine wasn't just traded by Asoka. That poor war criminal has been tried by Kanan Jarrus AND Ezra. And failed badly. She is GOOD for a mandalorian but.. not the best there either. She's not as good a pilot as sendula, not as good a fighter as most of the other Mando's, what she was good at was... explosives, blowing things up, spray painting, and... of course, making weapons of mass destruciton.

To me Luke Skywalker is Star wars and without him it feels like they missed the mark. I read over a one hundred Novels in the Expanded Universe for decades. When they started to make the movie again I felt like they took all those years of my vision of Star Wars and just trampled into the ground. Read the EU books and tell me how Disney is soo much better. It is shallow and so political that it might has well been an infomercial on how to hate Men. The Books really had endearing characters like Leia's children Jacen, Jaina and Anakin. Their stories were epic in scope and their Characters were amazing. Luke also falls in love, Mara Jade who I might add was actually an assassin sent by the Emperor to kill Luke. They also had a child, Ben of course named after Obi-Wan Kenobi pseudonym Ben. It has so much potential for the screen yet Disney said no, they rather make movies all based on an Ideology that Men are Evil by nature and women are pure. To me this is not Star Wars, it is Social Wars.

I think they're sort of doing "Rey in reverse" with Sabine. Many people complained that Rey was incredibly powerful, but received next to no training (even some folks who liked the character). Sabine isn't particularly powerful at all, and is going to need ALL the training. They both sell the message "anyone can be a Jedi", but Sabine is going to do it in a more believable way, she's gonna have to put some serious effort in.
@Psichlo1
@Psichlo1 Жыл бұрын
I think it was a valid criticism. Luke was supposed to be this great Jedi, and we get to travel with him through his failures and eventual mastery of the force. There was no such journey for Rey, she was just better than anyone else because she was. That's bad storytelling, and if Disney doesn't get some competent writers soon, the entire property will collapse.

Sabine without Jedi training is still a tough warrior to handle in combat. Give her even the basest level of Jedi training and a pitiful amount of force sensitivity and she may never be a good Jedi but one hell of a tough Mandalorian to beat in a fight.

This wouldn't be a reverse. Even with Anakin being labeled as the chosen one he needed all the training, it's not about that, this is just another underwhelming storyline from Starwars to try and forcefully turn a Mandalorian into a Jedi because Disney Starwars is simply running out of ideas and the audience is showing that

Rey wasn’t that powerful lol. She lifted some rocks that’s it. She was strong to do that since at the time the force had her as a balance and counter to kylo ren. It’s actually ok what Disney did, it actually makes sense story wise and has been explained by others already.

With the direction Ahsoka is going, there NEEDS to be a story that follows Yoda's Jedi upbringing. It is being teased that Yoda's teachings make great yet unorthodox Jedi. Why? What was it about Yoda that made it this way? Did Yoda know something that no one else did? Did he comprehend the Prophecy better than anyone could have realized and knew or at least felt what was coming? Was he "Bad" for the Jedi and lead to the Younglings with increased arrogance as described by him in the Clone Wars show? There is too much Pre Skywalker Saga timeline info that we just don't know. The future was clouded by the dark side, so he couldn't....shit. It clicked as I was typing this. Yoda is almost 900 years old at the time of his death. after 800 years, Yoda probably fell into a pattern. He likely is the reason why Jedi like Luke and Ahsoka "Figured it out" but at the same time was likely unable to change the course the Order was heading (coupling with the republic and being the Pinkertons for the Republic). He trained younglings in the true Jedi fashion but when thrust into the universe, they were made to do things that likely made them feel conflicted like it was against their code, all in the name of "Peace" for the Republic. This is why 3 out of 4 of his line did not follow the Orders teachings faithfully and some even turned against it. The one that did(Kenobi), likely only did because his Master was killed before Qui-Gon could guide him on the 3rd part of his journey of being a Jedi Knight on his own (Youngling>Padawan>Jedi Knight/Master Killed>Jedi Master. When he finally became a knight it was because his master found another Apprentice and not because his training reached it's natural conclusion, then Qui-Gon dies and he is forced to take on a Padawan before he can even learn to be himself. I feel like the Knight stage is the key stage that makes a Jedi into what he/she becomes and Obi didn't get a chance to do that so he ended up leaning on the failing council for guidance.)

@@sabrevinver4062 what? Yoda clearly told everyone in the movies that the future is clouded by the dark side of the force. The more time went on, the closer Sidious came to power, the harder it became for the Jedi to see what was coming. Their failing was that they became set in their ways and failed to do what they were meant to do and instead did what they were told by the republic.
