Generative Ambient Modular with Moog's Subharmonicon, the Disting EX and lush Strymon Starlab

Here's a generative ambient modular jam with Moog's Subharmonicon, the Disting EX and the lush Strymon Starlab.
The base chords come from the Subharmonicon while the high percussive notes come from the Disting EX's MultiSample algorithm. The slow high pitch swell comes from the Pittsburgh Modular Primary Oscillator through a uJove filter and the background soundscape is a dry sample going through the QuBit Data Blender.

It’s Eurorack format and the case is an Intellijel 7u. Was that the answer you were looking for or did I misunderstand?

Absolutely gorgeous. What a lovely sounding patch and setup. One day I will learn how to make stuff like this in VCV Rack (I know that at least one person has recreated the Subharmonicon or close to it in VCV already).

@@Jin-Hu He yeah, the swell is just the AD from the Subharmonicon. The 'dual stage' effect comes from the delay in the starlab - took me a while to figure it out as well.

Yay thanks! That's fantastic, those two are such a great combo. I need to explore ways for Pam's to mingle with the Subharmonicon's sequencer. Did you use any external module to mess with the Subharmonicon yourself?

@@rainmodular I’ve only recently got my first rack to compliment my Semi Modular set up so I’m still exploring possibilities. I have a Pam’s (of course!), a Maths (again, of course!) 🤣 an Ornament and Crime, The Starlab and a Magneto, along with mixers, mults, sequential switch etc. I’ve had some interesting times with the O&C running in Turing Machine mode feeding the SubH and also using a Maths channel in cycle mode to control the PWM… This can make the SubH sound quite disgusting! Also had a lot of fun running different Euclidean clocks from Pam’s into the SubH and DFAM, then taking the pitch CV out from the DFAM to modulate the SubH filter via an attenuator… Endless fun and games!

This sounds like a dream setup! I’m pretty sure you can spend a few years before feeling like you’ve explored all combos there. Congrats on the smart choices ;)

@@rainmodular Cheers man, it took many months of researching before I pulled the trigger on the Eurorack but I’m really happy with the set up so far. Still got some space in the rack but I’m in no hurry to fill it. I forgot to mention I bought a BoredBrain OPTX, this enables me to have 8 audio in & 8 CV/Audio outs from VCV Rack as well so that gives me a lot of modulation options… Loadsa fun! 👍

@@rainmodular I think I need a Subharmonicon. Have a DFAM. Excellent device. Been tempted by the new Pittsburgh Taiga, but still have GAS for the Moog Sub. Intriguing device for sure.

@@Dogboy73 ha I tottally get that... it's a really unique instrument. I'm currently rebuilding my setup but I'm keeping the Subharmonicon in it's original case to use it as a 'guest' on some of my jams. The Taiga looks super interesting! But it seems to be more multi purpose. The Subharmonicon just does its thing, and has a bit of a mind of its own. But I haven't found anything that sounds like it yet...
