Another great video. Being able to hook 2 of the GENMAX together and get 240 volts is a major upgrade. The way I'd advertise it is "One for the camper two for the home"

Apples and oranges, but the Honda certainly gave a good account of itself, as Honda's usually do. The GenMax sounds like every other Chinese generator I've heard. Not surprised to see it cry "uncle" a mere 200 watts over it's advertised running wattage, while the Honda went about 900 watts over before quitting...impressive.
@MrNightro3 ай бұрын
How can you find fault with a company that is honest with it's rated power? You would have a case if it fell short but it actually went above it's rated power. There is a reason companies give rated power and if you run your generator constantly above it's rated running power you will find out eventually why it has a constant running power rating.
@berettaguy74452 ай бұрын
@@MrNightro They're never "honest" about their surge power ratings. That thing would never come close to handling a 4600 watt surge.
@MrNightro2 ай бұрын
@@berettaguy7445 It comes down to terminology used that confuses people, the "surge watt" rating is actually "inrush rating" which is different. Once you understand the difference then you will see their ratings are correct. Most people can relate to what a surge is and it is often used in reference to inrush but really they aren't exactly one in the same. Inrush only lasts for a fraction of a second while a surge can last much longer, which is why you see a generator hold briefly before tripping under a "surge" condition. I guess it comes down to a situation of the marketing department vs the actual engineering department. Engineering department designed the product for application A while the marketing department are advertising the product suitable for application B because they know the average consumer doesn't know the difference but can relate to one terminology over another. On top of that, what is demonstrated in this video is not either surge or inrush but a constant load so doesn't demonstrate either surge or inrush capabilities of either generator.

Once GenMax gains a solid folowing and is able to meet the same quality and decibel level as Honda, they are going to corner the market. GenMax seems to listen to what customers want with all the add-ons and technology (push-button start and digital displays). They just need a better supply chain and repair network.

They're not going to "meet the same quality and decibel level as Honda"; that's why they're cheap. It costs money to build quality gear. Do you think a Dodge will ever be as good as a Lexus? Of course not, and Dodge is okay with that. They keep churning out junk geared towards the average consumer; more discerning buyers will go for the Lexus (or Toyota, depending on the model). GenMax knows there's plenty of cheapskates out there already enamored with all the neat little features they're sticking on their generators. Chinese do not pursue excellence; that's not their philosophy. They're Chinese, remember, not Japanese. They're very pragmatic; they're just out to make a profit. They know exactly what fat, lazy Americans deem important on machines like a generator, and they build them accordingly. You need to review their mission statement on their website; "...to constantly strive to provide new, innovative and exclusive products offering great value in each category."..value, not quality is what they're all about, and value means cheap.

The Honda sounds way smoother while the load is being applied. Would love to see this exact test done on the 2200 Honda. And the 6300 Yamaha inverter! The way you can slowly add wattage with the dial is awesome.

I have the GenMax 3,500 dual fuel, and two older square stackable Champion 2,000 generators with 550 and 600 hours each I use to provide power to my rentals units when I'm working on them when empty. The GenMax is quiter than the Champions. The Champions have been quite enough for mooch docking and barely audible overnight at homecoming. I only use my generator to dry camp when tailgating at homecoming or festivals...probably 50 hours a year at best, and i believe either generator would serve those purposes very well. I have soft starters on both A/Cs.

Hi Gavin. Hope you’re well. Are they both Floating neutral generators? When using Receptacles, do they need a Grounding Plug? Thank you sir. Mike ienuso.
@GeneratorReviews Жыл бұрын
Hey Mike Most small generators are bonded neutral.
@mikeienuso1926 Жыл бұрын
@@GeneratorReviews So I need a small detail if you don’t mind. Being as you stated that most inverter generators are Bonded Neutral, those “do not” need a grounding plug. Those Floating Neutral Generators “would” need a grounding plug in one of those receptacles to work Properly? Is that what you are saying? Thank you for your last response. Looking forward to this as well. All the best to you Gavin. Mike ienuso Ground plug is used when using Extension cord. When using 30 or 50amp inlet on Gen. no ground plug is necessary, Correct?
@ZxExNАй бұрын
Actually that's not true. The honda is a floating neutral generator and from the manual, looks like the genmax is also a floating neutral generator. Many small generators are infact floating neutral generators. Read your manual to confirm as there's really no hard rule. If in doubt, no a continuity test using a multimeter to confirm. One probe in the neutral and one in the ground. If there's continuity, it's bonded.

Another great review Gavin👍. The Genmax certainly seems to outshine Honda when it comes to affordability and features. I agree with you that for the average person being able to afford a feature packed backup generator for emergencies is a good thing. At the Honda price point it should have is the electric start and wheels. Not everyone is healthy or strong enough to pull-start or pickup 60lbs. Thanks for sharing.
