The cost of branded medicines has increased 300% to 400% in last one year, which is beyond control of Government. But the Aushadhi kendra are selling branded medicines under the name of Generic from Jan Aushadhi kendra and this is happening in mumbai and I have experienced it myself also there is price difference of the same drug at 2 different stores for eg at one Jan Aushadhi kendra a strip of N-Acetycystine + Taurine cost Rs 50 and the same strip same packaging under same brand in cost Rs 65 at a different location of Jan Aushadhi kendra .... that is my personal experience so u can understand what is happening under Modis leadership

Any medicine has an API (active pharmaceutical ingredients) and some inactive contents in each formulation. For eg in Tablet of paracetamol, API is paracetamol as well as the tablet also contains disintegrating agents, binding agents, inert material etc. Different companies use different ingredients although the API is the same. Because of this, the pharmacokinetics (ADME) (or simply drug handling by patients body) of medicine differs; leading to change in efficacy. Also patients mindset and placebo effects may have an impact.

I bought generic medicines for my mother but it ended up with lot of side effects than the prescribed medicine. My mother never had any problem for years consuming Diabetic medicines but as soon as I provided her the generic medicine this time she couldn't sleep whole night due to stomach burn, acidity and loose motion. So, yes effectiveness and safety is still a concern with those medicines.

Maine generic levothyroxine 100 mcg liya tha, after one month my TSH level increased and the final value was 25.32, After seeing the report, doctor scold me for taking generic medicine and he prescribed thyronorm 100, after taking thyronorm 100, my TSH level lowered and normalised. So, I have no trust on generic medicine, kuch paisa bachane ke chakkar mein medicine ke saath cherchar na kiya jaye, wohi accha hai. Suna hai, generic medicines mein jo excipients use hota hai, uska quality thik nahi hota. For example, agar aap 650 mg paracitamol liya hai toh pura 650 mg absorb nahi ho payega, may be 500 mg absorb hoga aur 100 mg excipients se bind ho kar rahe jayega. So, ask your doctor, if you really want to take generic medicine and ask him/her which generic medicine will be suit best for you.
