My mom is a pastor and there was this homeless man that would always come into the church and ask for stuff. Sometimes he just wanted to sit in the air conditioning. He was always really honest to her (he made sure to tell her he had some schizophrenia) and would ask for just what he needed and nothing more. My mom quickly became really close to him and would always give him food and whatever he needed. She’d drive him where he needed to go and would make sure he was okay. The church was eventually able to afford to get him an apartment. I went to visit him there once and brought him some food. My mom trusted him enough that she said she would have left us (her kids) alone with him. Unfortunately Mr Hilton (that was his name) passed away in February. He had prostate cancer, which was part of the cause of his death. For legal reasons his body went to the city and not the church so they couldn’t bury him. My mom and the former associate pastor of the church held a small funeral in February. R.I.P. Lavelle Hilton. You were loved

I managed a Wendy's for 7 years. Every Sunday night you have to break the food cycle and throw out chili, frosty mix, salads etc. There were a few homeless men who would come in on Sunday nights because I would give them free chili, coffee (our coffee was terrible so bless their souls for drinking it) and frosty's. I had no problem doing this as it was up to my discretion as a closing manager and we would have thrown the food out anyway. When it was especially cold, I'd allow our homeless guests to stay in the dining room until we closed.

To tell you honestly even food that is going to be thrown out is a problem for people. I worked as a manager in Burger King and each night we count our waste (food items we threw out) and the amount is no less than 100s of dollars (this price is what the restaurant pays for the food not the customer, so obviously it's a lot less per item). I simply said once to my senior managers there is lot of food we waste, why can't we give it out to the homeless in our neighborhood? The freaking stare I got from them was like I said the most disgusting and unbearable thing they ever heard!

Fortunately, there are still many people who have never had the experience. Those hard times build character and make you more empathetic to the struggles others are facing. If you've had nothing, you're going to be more sympathetic to less fortunate people. If you've worked in food service, you're going to be more patient and considerate when you are going out to eat. Difficult times, big or small, shape us. Things we may not even think about change us, and it's so interesting when you hear someone's story and you can understand them better, positive or negative.

I was at the hairdresser today, a salon I've been visiting for 5 years now, and I got totally unexpectedly played. I have short hair, normally it costs me around 20€. Today the bill said 40€. I asked the hairdresser about the additional price as she didn't do sth special or out of the usual. Washing, cutting and hair drying. Seems so she put 20€+ because of the hair drying. I have no job due to corona and am currently writing my university applications. So I really hadn't got so much money with me. I nearly cried as I bagged her to pls have mercy as I really wasn't aware of the (very overpriced!!) "extra service" I received. She didn't mention that it would cost sth when she had asked me though. So I stood there crying out of anger and disappointment when a woman, who was sitting at the waiting area and who overheard and got my back in the whole argument with the hairdresser, stood up and gave me 20€, so half the price the bill said. This complete stranger saved my day and my faith in humanity and I was and am so unbelievable thankful for her help and support ❤

Oh my gosh, that is so kind of that woman! ❤️ Like, I bet you didn't except them to give you $20 (or €20) to you, when you didn't except that worker to pull the price up to $20 (€20)! And you waited 5 years? :O Oh, in like 7 years I can't wait to get my nails done! 😂 💅 👁️👄👁️

We all need to think how easily we ourselves can become homeless at anytime maybe due to bad health or lose of a job and you can not pay rent also a lot of people have No family or friends to help.If you do not want to give the homeless money offer them food ,I have done this twice once at McDonald's when a man dug into the garbage can for a half eaten cheeseburger for him and his dog,I did give him money and he was very grateful and went in to get food.Another time I did not have money to offer but gave a homeless woman a doughnut she began crying saying she had not ate for a.week.Yes some may be drug users or alcohol but everyone deserves to be shown compassion.Maybe they drink and use drugs as a means to numb themselves in order to survive living on the streets.Also some are Mentally or Physical handicap and if you do not have an address you can not get any type of S.S.D.I. or E.B T.

I used to work at Wendy's and there was this homeless man who came in and he had a card and tried to pay for his food. When his card wouldn't work he was frustrated saying he hadn't eaten in 3 days. My heart broke for him and he asked if he could at least sit down in the ac because it was summer and I told him yes just have a seat. We weren't busy at the time, so I asked my manager if I could buy him some food and with permission, I bought him a 10 piece and a water and brought it out to him. He instantly burst into tears and asked if he could hug me. I would have gotten him more if I had more money on my card, but it was close to payday so didn't have much.

Someone once said something that's stuck with me. Be Charitable, give often and give till it hurts. My wife and I adopt a family each holiday season and buy presents, gift cards, cloths and wrapping paper. We leave no name and drop it off like a theif in the night... knowing we will never receive thanks from the family, but we know that even if for one day, someone is going to be happy or relieved because of the actions we did is enough of a reward... We are by no means rich, or have an abundance of money to burn. But we are both capable of going without a few luxuries for a few weeks to make a few children happy on Christmas...

In most countries there are laws that force restaurants, cafes and such to throw out leftover food at the end of the day. Why don't they make a law that forces shops to give the leftovers to the shelters. That's just logical: less wastage, less trash, less money spent for shelters, more money to fight unemployment, less unemployed/homeless people, less money needed for shelters, and the cycle goes on! (I know I'm oversimplifying the problem but it's just so you get the idea)
@Jane-bq3qv4 жыл бұрын
I thought the exact same. I worked at the Grand Hyatt (hotel) in their events department and we would see so much wasted food at the end that hadn’t even been touched. I asked the same question to my managers and apparently the idea has been passed around before but it’s an issue regarding potential lawsuits- for example if the food was not served within an appropriate timeframe and someone got sick, they could sue. It’s a real shame
@huh59504 жыл бұрын
@@Jane-bq3qv yeah that's a big problem, I thought about that too.. but at the same time they could do this just for certain types of baked food etc that can be consumed in a couple of days (brioches, donuts, bread etc.) and thy could certify the date that they were cooked, then when the food is passed to the shelters the legal responsibility for sharing the food in time could be given to the shelters instead of the restaurants. Also, the restaurants could provide the service by giving out the food at the end of the shift on the same day it was cooked, and then throw what is left the next morning. In this way they wouldn't even have the problem of homeless people asking for food during the day and looking bad for not giving it because, because the homeless would just wait for the end of the day to eat what's there. This are just suggestions but I think that if we really try we could find a better solution than what is being done now.
@Jane-bq3qv4 жыл бұрын
Daniel Ogunleye that’s very very true. In all honesty I think you’re right, more could be done but the sad thing is these big corporations don’t want to put resources to things that don’t directly benefit them. Money would be spent and they don’t want to be responsible for that. It’s sad

I've always been a humble person to begin with, but being homeless with a 7,9 and 13 year old made me appreciate even the smallest things in life even more, that's why every time i see a homeless person i give whatever i can to help whether its $1,$5 or a double cheese burger from McDonald's. Are all you guys in this comment a liberal? Those 2 women offered to pay for the guy. But they also understand that people tend to make it a habit once they receive free stuff. They were genuine and understanding of both sides, something that liberals aren't capable of doing. You guys need to learn from this and understand that you're incapable of understanding both sides. I actually prefer their method of handling this situation over all the rest. I once worked at a restaurant and we always give out water for those skater teens, when asked, that are skating in the hot sun in front of the restaurant. But some of them just throw the to-go cups on the floor when they are finished. And when they come in to ask for water during rush hour, we just couldn't handle and wouldn't want to handle the extra work, so we just tell them we can't give water to them. They then got mad and gave us an attitude. But according to you guys' logic, not wanting people to make a habit of receiving free stuff is considered inhumane.

Your statement was addressed on my second sentence, but I don't want to bother explaining simple stuff to liberals. My second sentence, "Those 2 women offered to pay for the guy". So when cameras were shown and they claim to do something nice, how is that a hypocrite? I seriously hope liberals are capable of learning. Because I just taught you a lesson. But doubt you'll learn.
