I wanted to thank you for encouragement to share our testimony with children. Me and my husband shared our testimonies with our son and it was very good time and made our relationship much deeper. I believe this also brought him much closer to Jesus. God bless

Love the comment about our welfare system and how in Joseph's time it was recognized as an unworkable system. Just as our nature is, we want to change what God has put in place, because WE (think) we know better.

what stood out to me is how they willingly sold themselves into slavery. this shows something important about what Sin does in our lives, Egypt is a picture of sin and at first, it looks like sin is providing comfort and survival but, just like the people of Israel, we come to find out that we pay with everything we have until we have nothing left and we sell ourselves into bondage. proverbs 10:22 says "The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich and addeth no sorrow"

Ultimately the question regarding how things are governed comes down to the principles. I don't think Joseph necessarily did anything wrong, but there are consequences to making rulers even more powerful. Due to the world being broken, there is no way to avoid that. Some of the epistles talk about loaning with no expectation of return. So it cannot be that all hand-outs are bad. But there also has to be rules to avoid abuse and incentives to encourage good behaviour. (though, amongst Christians, we would hope that they would listen to the Bible when it (and the Holy Spirit when He) warns of laziness.) And of course, those who literally can't work need providing for. Edit: edited to remove any possible accidental suggestion that the Holy Spirit was an it.
