I've been waiting for Axe to get into Grand Finals of a supermajor for years. He's always had such raw potential, but today he played better than he's ever played before, I think. He showed he can absolutely beat his two demons, Hungrybox and Plup, and with that there really isn't anyone he can't take on. I really hope this is just a preview of what Axe can do this year, and Melee couldn't have asked for a more hype Grands to start off 2019

This was my first smash tournament I’ve ever attended and I have never been so hyped in my life. I’ve warched the mele scene for years but have never went to any tournaments till today and I can easily say watching streams of events is nothing compared to physically being here and I reccomend it to anyone who has not attended an event before. Also watching axes run and losing my voice cheering loud as I can was an amazing experience.

Too many people think there’s one set way to play or only a few optimal play styles when in reality the options are actually endless but it’s just a matter of finding them. Realistically every character has some kind of optimal play style but just some don’t have enough or they have to string of disadvantages. Little Mac could be a decent character if smash players knew that you can’t approach playing him with the same mindset as most of the aerial heavy or zoning characters. Taking a unique approach different from what’s commonly regarded as “good” or optimal could end up working and make “bad” characters good if The strategies are fit and appropriate

Well he’s been on the road to passing M2k for a while and I think he’s finally done it. Also he’s always been way better than the low points of Mang0, though I don’t think he’s surpassed Mang0 at his best. But if M2k keeps playing how he is and Axe keeps playing like this, there’s no reason why he couldn’t be top five now that Armada is gone. Axe was severely underrated in 2018 also.

Pikachu and Yoshi are underrated. Yoshi's parry + his high weight completely neutralizes his unsafe approaches, bad recovery, and low priority attacks. Pikachu's weak attacks and low range are neutralized by his strong kill moves, great jolt + quick attack recovery, his ability to combo the fast fallers, and his strong edge game with jolt, up-air, fsmash, jab, d-tilt, f-tilt, thunder, quick attack...

Is it? Every kill is either an up smash read or a super high percent kill that requires like 10 neutral wins + trades. Doesn't seem very doable.

I'm still in the middle of watching this for the first time, I'm a little late, but when Axe started stalling on the ledge in game one I was so fucking hype and Scar saying he is sending a message I couldn't agree more.

Also the Hbox chant at the end was kinda heart warming, he gets a lot of shit and people don't really ever cheer for him but at the end of the day he is still human and it made me happy to see them chant his name and you can kinda tell that Hbox is touched by that. Melee aside everyone deserves to be happy and loved. One last thing, this was an amazing set both played very well. I think this video is a good example of a lot of great things in the Melee community.
